You are on your first solo ghost hunt, under the watchful instructions of Bear and Jen from the O.P.G paranormal team. Use real gadgets in a real location, a house investigated by the developers on the request of three different owners. It is a case worthy of a video game, so welcome to Incubus.

i was kinda disapointed the game is somewhat repetitive so it grows old fast its more of a filler game that the developer created while they work on their next big game
Pro's - Great fun Con's - Needs more DANVERS!
This is a weaker game than most of the Boakes/Clark output. The game play is quite repetitive for the first three-quarters of the game: find three phenomena, get a small step forward in the plot, repeat. It gets a little more interesting in the last part, but still has nothing like the complexity of both puzzles and plot found in their other games. It took me about 7 hours all told, of which I lost around an hour on the game hanging (save often!). I hope we see more games from Darkling, but I think they need to give us something a bit more substantial next time.
Really disappointed with this one. There's a glitch about 4-5 days in that does not allow further gameplay (or closure). Seems like the developers have disappeared, too. I'm a big fan of the Darkling Room's portfolio overall, but where did they go?
A game that makes you feel nostalgic for the point and click adventure games of your youth but then brings upon that rage that you always forget about during those endgame portions. I can still remember the first time I played Dark Fall as a kid. The tension was thick that I had to stop playing. While Incubus has less heart-pounding moments and less "my god is that the Myst sound effect, please you're killing me!" it does have that build up that Boakes does so well with his storytelling. You know, which is why I'm still waiting for Lost Crown's sequels. And why when this game mentions Harwood House I'm all over it. It's the universe. I'm hungry. Feed me that delicious slop. Much like Ghost Vigil, you're ghost hunting. This gives you more haunts that are random. Either explore on your own or use the QR in the kitchen to get some reports from previous residents or those who worked in the house to get some ideas where hauntings happened. You'll get an idea of what's going on. Eventually you'll get to the storyline and some mysterious phone calls. If you're reminded of the fake documentary Ghost Watch in the earliest stages of your investigation, I was right there with you. But things start taking a turn and as the title suggests, that's not the same kind of demon. But good luck with that and your fellow investigators don't really believe in demons. Gee, I wonder why? It's not like Boakes and Company don't deal with ghosts, demons, potentially aliens, and just all manners of weird things as it is. You will not clock in as much game time as I did. I am pathetic at point and click adventure games. I am terrible. Yet I'm still playing them despite how bad I am at them. If I wasn't so woefully terrible, I'd say that's about four hours of playing time. I found this to be a fair price for the game. You may not unless you really love point and click games and love the more supernatural games. This is probably a great game to get you in the Halloween spirit. Right so.
Wintson the pansexual f-demon. I've been laughing about this concept since that one scene in the desert. Okay. Back to the review.
There's some silliness even with the hauntings in this game. Obligatory Doctor Who quotes. References to previous games in this... I guess universe? Listen, Jemima the Doll gives me a little trauma. I remember. Watching her little eyes stare at me every time my fellow ghost hunters popped up was like she was mocking me for my time spent in previous games. I loved it. Thanks. Thanks for a few giggles when some of the material was a little dark. Which... Hey, the name is Incubus. Look up what that is. There's going to be some talk about those topics. You may not want to go there if you're not in a good headspace and that topic isn't okay for you. Do your due diligence, please. It's nothing that you couldn't show a newly minted thirteen year old (heck it was tame) but just keep in mind your sensitivities. There's a few glitches where I wasn't able to whip out the inventory so I thought I was stuck in a scripted event. This was fixed by moving a screen and clicking back. There's a few spelling errors but it's nothing that broke my computer. Not a big deal. No motion sickness, but I turned off motion blur so remember that please. And thanks for offering that! I appreciate that. Happy Septemberween, go play some horror games kids.
I am an old and loyal fan of Darkling Room games, such as Dark Fall series, The Lost Crown and Barrow Hill (one of my favorite games of all time<3). So of course this game is a MUST have! No question about it. Did someone say Ghost hunting?! Cool I'm in!! I've been missing the point&click type of games. Loved the story and the Darkling Room type of atmosphere ;)
Game doesn't work for me atm. After you get past the first round of matching rooms and ghosts I am unable to move. Experienced by several people on the forums. It's not as if this is a new demo, this should have been resolved by now.
Alas, I have finally finished the last game from Jonathan Boakes and Matt Clark (so far). It's been quite a ride; I started playing their first game, Dark Fall, a couple years ago, and have been playing all their games in order of release since then. I can strongly recommend all of them, except Dark Fall 3 (although I'd still recommend it for the sake of completion, but man, did I hate that one xD). Incubus, in particular, is quite different from the rest, being a lot less about solving puzzles and leaning much more into the ghost hunting mechanics. In most aspects, it's closer to Dark Fall: Ghost Vigil than to their other games: the main characters are the same (adding video recordings of them was a nice touch), the previous story is referenced a few times, and that game had a preliminary version of the same ghost hunting equipment mechanics now employed here. It's a little rough around the edges: the game crashed a couple of times, so save often!!; the ability to skip dialog would have been nice, especially in the last portion of the game; the paranormal event randomization should have been pseudo-random as to ensure that the player will get every possible phenomena within one playthrough, etc. However, overall, the game is well-made, relatively innovative, and it doesn't overstay its welcome (it's around 7 hours if you want to get every achievement and don't experience any crashes). It also has an interesting (albeit a bit cliched) story. My only nitpick is that (minor spoilers)
I didn't quite like all the sexual references that appeared here and there, although it is fair to say that there weren't that many, and they weren't that explicit
. Some characters and aspects of the story were great, but I won't get into details here, as to avoid spoilers :P. To summarize, another good game by Boakes and Clark, not their best, not their worst, a bit different from the rest (less puzzles, more ghost hunting mechanics), but still very much worth your time.
I've really enjoyed the other ghost hunting games from this developer but this one was such a disappointment. The game play is repetitive and glitchy, and the subtitles are riddled with typos. It feels rushed and lacks any real appeal. I got this heavily discounted otherwise I would have just refunded it, to be honest. I really wish the dev would pick up his other seemingly abandoned projects like Blackenrock. I hope to see more like the original Lost Crown game or Dark Fall.
Really enjoyed playing this game and learning to use all the gadgets. I feel I have been well trained (and will now get my own EMF meter)! The game has many spooky surprises. Eerie atmospheres with sights and sounds belonging to other time periods as well as clues to find and a mystery to solve. Big fan of Darkling Room and Shadow Tor games and this is a good one to add to the collection.
