A generic indie horror game that comes with a lot of technical issues. The game doesn’t stand out since it’s just one more in an endless see of similar titles. As always, there’s not a lot of story here. You’re a nameless guy who goes camping, and starts hearing strange noises at nightfall. It’s not important at all. What’s important is whether or not it delivers a few hours of fun. With a major discount, the answer could be yes. Unfortunately, the entire thing feels like assets thrown together because you keep jumping from one location to the next. The gameplay is typical for this type of game, which involves looking for ways to get past barriers like closed doors while avoiding a monster. If you're lucky, you might see a yellow waypoint telling you where to go. But most of the time you're left in the dark because you have no idea on how to proceed. The game doesn't waste time by gradually increasing the tension or simply revealing glimpses of what's coming after you. There are cheap jump scares everywhere accompanied with a violin screech. The creature appears directly in your face five minutes into the game. While there is a mechanic to hide from it and wait for it to go away, it is not particularly effective. Small nitpicking issue are the controls, notably the button "e". This is a problem because the default setting associates three actions with the same button: examine, hide, and lean right. So each time you open a closet or examine something, you also lean. Keys can be customized, but not all of them. A bigger problem is that hiding doesn’t seem to be working properly. The monster will know exactly where you are, bump into you to take away some of the health, and start moving around like nothing happened. The other technical issue is the user interface, which resembles a slightly updated stock template used in every indie horror game. There's a battery-powered flashlight, a heart in the corner to indicate health, and so on. You also acquire access to a gun, which is uninteresting because it has no effect on the game's architecture. This means that firing a gun feels like you're shooting into the air. It will not leave holes or shatter glass. The other issue is that you can’t pick up stuff while holding the gun. Another major problem are notes. You can take a look at them during a normal play, but they become broken if you continue or load a game. First, while note icons remain in the inventory, their larger versions disappear. And second, attempting to use a note causes the game to lock all controls. The only way out is to hard quit the game.
Start of the game was promising, after a bit you will start to see were the developement efforts went, Only in the beginning.
Gnarly Hike is a good Horror game with puzzle in the mix. Gameplay wise is almost a walking sim with puzzle and jumpscares here and there but then you will small sections where you use a pistol and a shotgun. The game has issues in terms of on to solve some puzzles that can be fixed. Full Playthrough: https://youtu.be/VNE8y2NusY0
La Pire Bouse que j'ai faite de ma vie. Il n'y a absolument rien de bon.
Full playthrough here https://youtu.be/2RQuBmdOsUY The game had some pretty solid jump scares and I like how the environment looks throughout, but man I really wish the puzzles had better hints. Honestly it felt like I was brute forcing most of the game I'm not sure they give you an hint to the order of any of the puzzles in the game I could be wrong, but if there were I didn't find them.
The game is alright. I feel it could use some voice over work. Not bad for the price. Gameplay Impressions: https://youtu.be/iRzMVMrQf8k
This game is not a masterpiece. The story is very bad-written, with no reasoning and logic. The gameplay is way too challenging and stretched, but the environments and jumpscares are beautifully designed. The boss fight is cringy, but at least there was a boss fight…which I guess is a good thing! It reminds me of old 2000’ games where you knew almost nothing about what was going on. A good scare, but $5 would be the max price in my opinion
More gnarly than hike
游戏指引非常的模糊 好多地方都需要猜 过关太费劲了 也不恐怖 各种bug 还闪退 太一般了
I'll start by saying that in my opinion, this game is not worth its full price at the moment. It's full of issues ranging from mildly amusing bugs to game breaking glitches and crashes. That being said, I've still managed to have some fun with this game and would recommend to buy this for a buck or two when it's on sale.
