I would like to be neutral, but I have to choose yes or no and it sadly is more no. The artstyle is beautiful, the music is great, the story is good and the world design is amazing. Then why is it a no? I really don't like the game mechanics. There are too many enemies and you have no clue where to go. You don't have a map and it's really frustating to find your way through the monsters. And you have to hide every two meters. It's not fun at all. It feels that the game wants to be a little bit of everything and losts itself...
This game was a massive surprise for me, I wasn't expecting much when I purchased but can honestly say its up there with the best games of 2022 for me. if you enjoy games like little nightmares, among the sleep, limbo/inside & papa & yo you will absolutely love this game! its very polished, had no problems with it and it runs great on steam deck. i feel this game has gone under the radar which is a shame and definitely deserves more recognition.
When I started the game, the scene showed up in front of me was a style of dark fairy tales, which is very attractive with the special back ground music. Now let me talk about my personal feeling. 1.The difficulty is gradual and easy to master, level setting is very sophisticated. 2.The plot presented in the game shocked me, and made me think about myself quite a lot, which pushed the artistry of the game to a climax. In the story, Bill jumps over deep ravines, escape dangerous monsters and solve the puzzles in order to get out of his psychological shadow. 3.The whole game seems to perform a drama with a tight rhythm, leaving player enough space for thinking. The atmosphere of music and pic are naturally integrated, which fully interprets the tension and excitement. I haven't get the real ending yet up till now, looking forward to it.
Developed by Chinese company Beijing Magic Fish Technology Co., Ltd., In Nightmare is very reminiscent of games like Inside, Little Nightmares (In Nightmare?), Limbo, and so on. With a very creepy vibe and some light puzzles, the game will tell a history of trauma, and how a child deals with feelings she's not prepared to understand. With no bugs I've noticed in my 1 hour and a half of gameplay, the game seems extremely polished. You can check my first hour here: https://youtu.be/ttn7AjQpucg
A clumsy stealth adventure game without good story or interesting gameplay. We have to run from monsters in a made-up boy's world whom nobody loved. That's why he decided to live in a coma. The authors show us again and again how hard it is to be Bill. After the 20th time someone scolds him for no reason, you stop feeling sorry for him. Because he's just pathetic and weak whiner. You just accept this. The game bored me after the second chapter. It isn't fun. The camera angle is awful—you can't see the monsters, but they do. And they can see you from a great distance. Inconvenient control doesn't help either. You have to press two buttons with a short interval to use an item. And while I'm okay with that in general, it's frustrating during boss fights (especially the last one). I strongly wouldn't recommend it.
I found this indie isometric horror game to be more frustrating than enjoyable. This is because it quickly turns into a hide from the monster game with no way to defend yourself and no manual save. You constantly keep getting caught by the monsters because they can easily detect you, even when crouched and hiding in the shadows. Your stamina meter also drops quickly, so you can't outrun them. There is also an annoying heartbeat sound that doesn't stop when monsters are near. Graphics are faded and washed out and I had to use Reshade to get the shading to look right. This game also suffers from typical Unity engine stuttery camera movement, even when the frame rate remains maxed. Overall, I did not enjoy my time spent with this game and I therefore cannot recommend it.
really janky and in the bottom right corner it says "trial version" which is weird because I have the full game. I bought it on humble store. Good thing it only cost a couple dollars
if i had the choice i would choose the middle, however it's to recommend or not to recommend so i chose to not recommend. the game is simple, atleast with controls, however it's simplicity is it's downfall. it can get boring quickly. it's run, crouch, maybe throw once or twice and that's it.the story doesn't really grasp me either so i lost interest. there are puzzles, however i never ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ understand them. i do have a bad record with puzzles in gaming so keep that in mind. i had to pull up a playthrough of this game everytime i encountered a puzzle, that gets irrating QUICKLY. if that playthrough didn't exist i would be stuck and would not be able to get further in this game lol. anyway, i didnt really enjoy this experience, you might. it's a 50/50 tbh and you should probably get it on sale. when i recommend that you should play the game: you like little nightmares and need a game like that. you are out of games and need a short new horror game.
In Nightmare is a pretty good horror adventure game, okay then the story. In a hospital a young man named Bill Thompson is in a deep sleep after suffering so much tragedy in his young life he finds himself unable to face the real world, now in a deep, deep coma he dreams, but his dreams are not pleasant ones as he is trapped in a nightmare world where he must confront his past and his trauma to wake up or else he shall sleep forever. Okay what are the likes, the story is good I like how it talks and handles the themes of child abuse and neglect and it doesn't go over the top with it for shock value, no it's handled much more sensitively, also talking about things like divorce and trauma. I also like the parts about forgiveness, facing your fears and overcoming trauma. The gameplay is good it's a mixture of exploration and puzzle solving while also running and hiding from monsters, it has a nice little nightmares kind of vibe to it, there are some frustrating parts. The puzzles were good a lot of them were fair with some decent amount of hints to tell you how to solve them, except for one puzzle though but I'll get to that in the dislikes. The graphics are good it has a great use and good balance of bright and somber dark colors giving it a sort of dreamy like quality, the designs are also quite good not just the world, but the characters and monsters too. The levels are good each one very creative and quite diverse that really implements and uses the whole dream aspects to each level, even the hub world is just breathtaking to look at. It's also interesting that each of the levels are thematically tied with the character, while also being warped and exaggerated to fit the nightmarish dream world. The monsters are good each one has their own unique looks and are very creepy, I also really like how each one really ties in with the themes of the story and our main character, it was quite creative especially after a second playthrough and reading all the notes. The characters are very good while there is officially only one character Billy he was well developed through his notes and diary entries, we can see him going from a sweet and sensitive young kid to someone who's really jaded and angry, even his parents like his father are quite three-dimensional even though we don't really see them besides in flashbacks they're actually portrayed as complicated people who both have their faults and while I do blame the dad for a lot of the crap in Billy's life and he is one of the key factors in his abuse, he written in the notes to not really be a bad man he was just not meant to be a single parent and later in a note he even admits to screwing up, the mom does too but I feel like the dad was had more to blame than the mom, but that's just me personally. The notes are really good it does a good job in expanding the characters and the story as a whole just like any good notes should do. The music was really good each haunting scores from the first level as you creep around this weird childish nursery/kid’sroom, to the almost mystical soundtrack to the forest level to even being chased by monsters, each score really fit the game was good. Now is this game scary not really, it's not going to make you jump or feel dread it's more tragic, it is a little disappointing to be honest, but I do think the story is good regardless of it not being scary as it could be. Okay what are the dislikes, there are some frustrating parts in the game like one part is the first puzzle in chapter 3 basically in order to complete this puzzle you have to go through doors turning them clockwise or counterclockwise a certain number of times, I felt that puzzle to be very vague and kind of cheap, there is a clue in the floor mural but I felt it too vague and really confusing compared to the other puzzles hits, while some of the other puzzles you can brute force your way your way through, you can’t brute forcing this puzzle and it can ultimately take you out of the game. The second frustrating part is the forearmed boss monster, the boss fight is really cheap because not only are you running from the monster you also have to be careful because in the boss arena there is columns of fire and if you get hit by the boss or by those columns of fire no matter how far in the boss fight you are, if you die you have to restart the whole fight again it was quite frustrating. Alright now with that all done with In Nightmare is a pretty good horror adventure game, it has a good story, good graphics and good monsters, now I do recommend this game if you're looking for a game that's not really scary, but has a very good story then I definitely recommend it.
