Blast-off is a hardcore jumper/runner/shmup, where your alter ego will be a ball of anti-matter seeking to leave our Universe. Anti-matter is extremely difficult to exist in our universe, because when it contact with matter it annihilates.

Идеальный хардкорный таймкиллер, +карты
I am 32 years old. My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old. When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing. Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side. With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of you. In fact, I may have played this game for only a day or two. That being said, after doing so, I had a new joy and hope for life. I managed to leave behind the pain and suffering that had been thrust upon me. I could experience the joy and happineass of other people. I relaxed for 5 ♥♥♥♥ minutes listening to this music, long enough to realize that I would be okay. After realizing this, I turned off the game and went back to work. My hand hurt a lot, but I was motivated. I stopped feeling so sorry for myself and became the father I needed to be at that moment, not the weak boy I was behaving like. Today, I am close friends with the mother of my children. We don't fight, argue, or say hurtful things to each other. We are parents and friends. Now I have 3 children. My third child is, wait, ALSO 4 YEARS OLD. The woman I am with was going through a very similar situation at the time of my separation, and we just unexpectedly stumbled into each other's lives. We have been dating for a year and are very happy together. Moral of the story: you never know what life has in store for you, and if I had given up when all odds were against me, I wouldn't be where I am today. This silly little game helped me realize that. Thank you.
Follow my Curator page, Fruit N Doggie Reviews, so you can be updated whenever I post a new review.

Overall Rating - Seriously Flawed ★★☆☆☆

First Impressions
Looking through my library of games, I knew nothing about Blast-off (BO). From my perspective, it was just a random SHMUP with a review score of around 86%. That's a pretty respectable result, but shortly after trying out the title for myself, I had to double-check those reviews because I couldn't wrap my head around why it fared so well. Considering how few people earn the achievement for completing the four-part tutorial you can finish in around five minutes, is this just a card generator people are being especially nice toward?
Gameplay
I think part of the reason you can find so many SHMUPs on Steam is that it can be a straightforward genre. You place the player's ship against several enemies, give them reasonable fire-power to blast away all those foes, and after putting in a handful of levels to clear, you've got yourself a game. With so many available, doing the bare minimum won't help your release get any attention, leading to gimmicks like BO. The main idea is that falling will lead to your death, so it's imperative to fly into thrusters and destroy enemies while directly above them so their explosion flings you further upward. Limited ammo has been an annoyance for me in other SHMUPs, but I think constraining my movement ratchets that frustration even further. Merely flying becomes a burden I need to deal with at all times, instead of being able to move without any restrain or need to consider complicating factors like avoiding damage or down thrusters. Infinite Mode is the main focus, with four levels to choose between. Honestly, since I suck at this title, I'm not sure if there's a significant difference in how each plays, or if it's primarily just a cosmetic matter, with the backgrounds changing. Their names don't help much: Tube, Plasma Storm, Dyonis, and Bio. Two clearly distinct alternatives come from boss fight and laser dance. The first has you running from a large, metallic enemy that fires lasers, while the other is a narrow corridor with lasers boxing you in, forcing you to weave carefully to avoid dying. I believe the laser dance follows a preset pattern, as each time I tried it, the lasers came in the exact same place each time. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3684306436
Controls
One of the immediate things I dislike about this title is how it feels to steer the ball around the screen. Merely moving upwards, the direction you're meant to go, doesn't have a satisfying feeling about it. Unless you've recently gotten a speed boost, it rapidly turns into a sense that you're pulling against gravity, which I suppose you are. That's not really a force I want to encounter when in a space title, as I want to shed the limitations of real life. In addition, with most games where your focus is avoiding enemies while aiming for targets, moving around the screen is all you have to consider. However, with BO, you can aim attacks and where you'll zip over if you use abilities, meaning that you also have to focus on which way you're facing.
Story
The store page mentions that you're made of anti-matter, but that's as close to a story as the game has. There's otherwise no plot whatsoever, which makes sense with the game modes that were focused on. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3684305965
Visuals
If there was one aspect about this game that really shows that it's an indie title, it'd have to be the visuals. It's true that it takes place in space, but even then the backgrounds are darker than you might expect due to the choice of colors and objects, as it isn't always just the vacuum of space that's behind you. For example, when challenging the boss, it looks like you're flying over something made of either metal or rock. When not fighting the boss, the primary enemies are other orbs trying to crash into you, which begs the question of where they're all coming from.
Sound Design
Personally, songs with an upbeat tempo and energy to them have always been enjoyable to me, and that describes most of the tunes I heard in this game. I'm not sure how many of them I'd consider space age, but since you'd theoretically want to fling through space at high speeds, they're a reasonably good backdrop for the gameplay. According to the store page, there's 30 minutes of original music, and with how short any attempt I made was, that's actually an ample amount of songs for the game. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3684306172
Pros
🌟 Over time you'll level up and unlock new abilities. 🌟 It's a novel space shooter.
Cons
❌ Having to gather fuel would have been a bit annoying, but how you maintain movement in BO is more complicated than that. You have to consider factors like momentum. ❌ The controls feel awkward, as moving left and right how I wanted didn't feel quite right.
Tips
🔍 Do everything within your power to move upward, while trying to be mindful of enemies that flew past you earlier. You don't want to hit one after catching up to them. 🔍 Don't forget to manually aim where you want to teleport or fire your projectiles.
Final Thoughts
Admittedly, I'm a little confused by how positive the reviews are in relation to the low percentage for all achievements, even the simplest ones, such as clearing the tutorial. Perhaps this is a case where numerous people have a copy of the game, but the few who are interested in playing BO are the right market for what it has to offer. That's not necessarily a bad thing, even though I wasn't one of the people who found it that enjoyable. Games that center primarily around endless modes aren't really my thing, which isn't what I would have expected from a title like this. Either way, I don't recommend the game due to how it controls, and ultimately think only a few people really like it that much, since only six percent of players finish all four tutorials. Looks like Team Rocket's blasting off again!
Before I played Blast-off, i had a small wee wee, no friends, no girlfriend, depression and absolutely no will to live. None of these things have changed, but the game is pretty good.

Blast-off is an unusual hybrid of an endless/autorunner and a 2D retro top down twin stick shooter (except it's on PC so they didn't think that through very clearly). Novel ideas, unfortunately, are not enough, alone, to carry a game to greatness. The technical implementation here is weak, the visuals poor, the gameplay bland and uninteresting. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. While there are options to change the resolution for the game, all this does is scale up the simplistic 2D art assets used to make the game, which makes little or no difference to the graphics quality. Without any other substantial graphics tweaks, it's not possible for gamers to improve the lacklustre 2D visuals. The game features somewhat lazy, simplistic "retro" looking 2D graphics, and it's hard to say if this is due to the age of the assets used, if it's a deliberate attempt for the game to look bad/retro on purpose, or if the assets are just, well, terrible looking. Considering this is being evaluated as a PC game in 2024, such poor quality 2D graphics in the 3D era just aren't good enough, whether it's a deliberate design fault on behalf of the developer or they just couldn't manage to do any better, this is a compromise gamers shouldn't have to put up with. The developers didn't design the game for modern gaming PCs, as such the display resolution caps out at around 1440p, there's no support for the state-of-the-art 4K or higher resolutions. The game simply won't look right on modern gaming displays due to this failure on the part of the developers. The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers, left handed gamers or gamers using AZERTY or other international keyboard layouts. Some of the defects in the game can be attributed to the choice of using the video game library/engine, Delphi. Seriously, they tried to make a game with Delphi. You can't make this stuff up. It's rarely used, because it's arguably worse than construction kits like GameMaker Studio, RPGMaker and Clickteam Fusion, but it's also much harder to work with. Despite this, Delphi has very limited capabilities, which go some way to explaining the poor quality of the game. Just as you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear, you can't make a great video game if you use a terrible engine. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. You don't have to take my word about how bad the game is, we can measure the interest in a game by how much people bothered to play it. Blast-off has achievements, and they show us a very clear picture that the game absolutely failed to capture any interest from gamers. The most commonly and easily attained achievement is for shooting 100 times, trivial to achieve, but less than 7 percent of players bothered to get that far before uninstalling the game. That's a tiny, tiny proportion of gamers who even bothered with this. Ouch. Reviewing SteamDB to check how popular this game was with players reveals a surprise... there's a very healthy spike in player counts for the game. But this only happened once, and isn't consistent with the achievement stats, that show less than 7 percent of players bothered playing the game for any reasonable amount of time. How is it possible for this game to have so many concurrent players who didn't bother engaging with this game? Trading cards. People will use card idling software to collect the cards and sell them, but this won't trigger any achievements in-game. That tells us people only really bought this game for trading cards, and that's a damning indictment of the woeful quality. A closer look at the numbers shows the game just has a couple of players every week running up the game and idling it for cards, then deleting it. We must ask how it benefits gamers for there to be so many games like this, with little merit as a serious game, that only generate sales from people idling and selling the trading cards. So, should you buy this game? Blast-off is relatively cheap at $3 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend. This is also competing with over 11,000 free games available on Steam, many of them far better than this paid product.
Developer Response!
The developer has weighed in to inform everyone they didn't read the Developer Usage Rules for Steam "partners", or they deliberately ignored the part where Valve says:
Though it may be tempting, not every review needs to be responded to. A developer response will frequently draw more attention than the original statement, potentially turning a small issue into a much larger community discussion. It's also not a good idea to use this feature to refute customer opinions. Your direct attention can be seen as validation or a defensive attempt to silence your customers.
The Russian developer chose to breach the guidelines to insist that nobody complains about Delphi being a bad game engine? That's because no professional developer would be caught dead using it! It's garbage, as I clearly state in my review. No decent game has ever been made with Delphi. The developer apparently requires arguments? Fine, I'll provide his game as a perfect example of why Delphi simply isn't capable as a game development language. Blast-off is garbage. And that's giving the "developer" the benefit of the doubt... because if Delphi isn't garbage, and Blast-off is, then surely the developer claims full responsibility for this disaster. And the second part... woah. Yes, the game is 7 years old. Putting aside the fact that the game looks like crap compared to games from 2018 (games like Subnautica, Monster Hunter: World and Far Cry 5), then this is an admission that the game simply isn't up to scratch for 2024 (as my review clearly states). Yet the developer, knowing this is an inferior product, is still trying to scam gamers into buying it. Utterly unacceptable. Nothing in the developers pointless breach of Valve guidelines changes any of the objective facts of my review. My review stands unaltered. I cannot recommend this Russian shovelware to anyone.
