Imperator: Rome

I enjoy this game from time to time, and the mods really elevate the experience, making it feel like a more complete title set in the Roman era. Some mods even introduce major overhauls, such as Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones conversions. The core systems are familiar to fans of other Paradox games, with much of the challenge centered on managing noble families and preventing them from destabilizing your state. While not especially difficult, this aspect can become frustrating due to their erratic behavior. If you’re looking for a solid grand strategy game set in the early Roman Empire, Imperator Rome is essentially the only option available. It offers a huge variety of factions, nations, and tribes, each with its own playstyle, which helps keep things fresh. If you’re bored and craving a Rome-focused strategy game, it’s worth picking up, especially if you find it on sale.

My favorite paradox game. Unfortunate that the game was left alone. Carries an empty version of most other paradox features and should've been expanded on.
