it was an interesting creative souls-like action with nice mood until poor level design met guns, and the game became absurdly difficult. at some point i said ♥♥♥♥ it, and never returned. still think you have to give it a chance, though
If you want a soulslike with guns, this is it. There is no other option. The core experience is quite solid. Good variety of environments, beautiful architecture. Enemy design is great (but encounter design, at times, is the worst you will ever experience. Not just in the genre. In general.). There are bugs: - in several specific places, I fell through textures. Doesn't happen very often, but still does. - the opening cutscene, shows an empty space where your character would be. Another big issue, is the balance between your weapon choices. Some weapon types do their job, and some simply do not. To get an enjoyable first impression, start as Marksman. Fun, fluid, fast-paced gameplay. Everything else, by comparison, is hard mode. Some weapons feel like fighting with a sword hilt. A smaller issue, but still noticeable, is protagonist's identity. While you get to pick appearance and name, your character's presence in the plot has fixed gender, backstory, and even name(?). Despite all this, I recommend it. Enter with low expectations, choose starting class wisely, and you will enjoy the game.
This isn't the worst souls-like I've played, but man is it far from a "good" souls-like. The enemy placements and encounters are awful. Every step of this game was designed to be an absolute slog with virtually no breaks between encounters. It's like it was designed by people who loved this genre, but had no idea what makes it fun. They just crammed a ton of enemies into a small area with the intent of slowing the player down, ambushing, and killing them at every turn. It's possible to make it through the levels, but why bother? This is just exhausting and annoying, and any satisfaction gained from overcoming one challenge is immediately replaced with yet another scenario designed specifically to bust the players balls, and I mean mere feet away with enemies materializing from thin air. Wait for a sale if you insist on getting this one.
Not fun at all game needs alot of correction and bug fixes before i consider it a solid pc game
I feel like a lot of people didn't give this game enough of a fair shot when it was released in 2018. Playing this today I can say I genuinely enjoyed my time with this game even though it was not a perfect experience. It's a bit rough around the edges, but I loved the core gameplay loop so much it carried me through the game. This game was instantly improved for me by two options: 1. Remaping the controls (using Steam-input) to something akin to Remant: From the Ashes 2. Enabling Auto-aim in the options menu. The "raw" aiming felt very floaty no matter how much tweaking I did. With Auto-aim enabled, the challenge comes from dealing with the enemies and their response to your actions, not fighting with the right thumbstick to place the crosshair where you want it. The action feels very reminiscent of Metroid Prime this way. The game is obviously very challenging and "souls-like", but in particular it has very sharp difficulty spike once you enter the second area. This is where I believe most people drop out of the game. If you can stick with it, get better loot/upgrades, advance your skill in the game, I believe the game is certainly worth experiencing.
