Vorwort

Follow "First Person Exploration and Puzzle Games" for more games like this!
I don't particularly like or dislike horror games, but I love games where you walk around an old house, solving puzzles and learning about the story through the things left in the house. Unfortunately this game is pure horror - there are neither puzzles nor a story. For a horror game, it seems.. okay? It reminds me a lot of "Layers of Fear", where the rooms and house layout change as you walk around, in attempt to become more creepy. If you liked that game, you'll probably like this one. The game is fairly buggy. The mouse sensitivity is really high, and the "mouse sensitivity" option doesn't seem to actually do anything. In menus, the game thought my mouse was in a different place than it actually was, a common feature of poorly coded Unreal games on 1440p monitors. It also opens SteamVR, another common feature of those games. At one point I wasn't able to use my light because I picked up a roomba(?) and, as far as I could tell, wasn't able to put it back down, so I had to stumble around in the darkness for a while until the level transition. A lot of locations are overly dark, and you don't always have a flashlight, so even when the game wasn't bugging out there were times when I could barely see anything. At one point you have to collect 8 blue triangles scattered throughout the house. They only spawn one at a time, meaning you'll end up having to scour every corner of the house 8 times to find them all. After picking up the 5th one the game makes your vision blurry - not like, blurry for a short moment, but permanently and heavily blurry. It was giving me a headache so I had to stop here. Overall, if you're looking for a horror game, this seems decent, although I'm probably not the person to ask for that. However if you're looking for something with exploration, puzzles, or a story, look elsewhere.
Image is your typical asset flipped haunted house jumpscare game, with a couple of differences. First, it's absolutely not an asset flip, because the developer acknowledges that they took assets from other people to make the game, and they credited them. That's how acceptable use of other people's assets is done. Through honesty. Unfortunately, the quality here is on-par with asset flips anyway, and at the end of the day, the primary reason we don't like asset flips is because they aren't good games. There's also the old axiom... those who can't create game assets properly usually aren't particularly capable of any of the other parts of game development either, which is certainly true for this game, and that holds true for Image. It's not egregiously bad as far as this kind of amateur third party asset filled game usually goes, but it's also a long, long way from being great or interesting. There's the other difference here, is that as you wander around the haunted house asset from the Unreal Marketplace, over time the rooms change around. Yeah, that's not a game-saving premise. You just do a few hidden object scavenger hunts and get jumpscared, that's all there is to this. The game is very very short and can be finished in about an hour. Developers have at least some responsibility to provide enough content to make a game last more than 2 hours if they're serious about providing something of value to gamers. There's less content here than some free game demos. The game is very simplistic, small and limited in scope and ambition. This feels more like a tech demo, proof of concept or student homework assignment rather than a fully fledged product designed for PC gamers. As such it doesn't offer any real value as a serious PC game. On the upside, the game does feature customisable controls and resolution, so at least some of the basic, minimum requirements have been met. Unfortunately there's a number of other technical defects and shortcomings which contribute to the game being difficult to recommend to gamers. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. Image didn't appeal much to the people who own a copy of the game, either. It has achievements, and they show us a very clear picture that the game didn't really capture any interest from gamers. The most commonly and easily attained achievement is for finding the second artifact, trivial to get, but less than 29 percent of players bothered to get that far before uninstalling the game. Hardly a success story, gamers just weren't all that interested in the game. The poor quality of this game is also reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 4 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 100,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected. So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 100,000+ games on Steam? Image has the ridiculous, laughable price of $10 USD, for which you could easily get any number of older AAA games. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend. For comparison, the $10 asking price for this game could get you games like "Deep Rock Galactic", "Frostpunk" or "Mass Effect Andromeda". Quality, professionally made games like those are frequently on sale cheaper than this.
Profile Features Limited! Valve have marked this game as "Profile Features Limited" at the time of this review. This is usually caused by poor sales figures and low community acceptance for the game (to date). Until this status changes, this game will not give you +1 to your Game Collector badge count, appear in profile achievements or any other Steam meta-accomplishments, nor can it be displayed in some profile showcases. If these factors are important to you, it may be worth holding off before buying this game.
Competent little indie horror. There is a good balance of scares and set pieces and nothing is complicated or difficult, the game has no enemies or puzzles. No real story either or anything to think much about. It's an inoffensive horror experience with unconnected scares.
i don't understand this game
---------> https://youtu.be/miI99xZetdc
The game devolves into your typical alone-in-the-house game after a few promisingly spooky minutes. The hero of the game is a young kid who is alone inside a house during a storm. He discovers there is something else in the house with him as he awakens from his sleep. The gameplay is very standard fare. As you go throughout the house, you gather objects to advance the plot. You are limited in where you can go because most of the doors are locked. The primary objective is to locate the five toys that must be placed on a pentagram. Sadly, because you are always guided where you need to go, paths open according to the linear story. The suspense is constant due to the numerous events, and the atmosphere is unsettling in a good way. Things will suddenly appear, lights will go out, doors will slam shut, and so forth. There are some jump scares. Parts in pitch black are insanely nerve wreaking because your camera can only flash for a second. Using it made me nervous since I never know what will jump out at me. The least of your concerns is a shadowy black figure with glowing eyes that is peeking around the corner. But don't be afraid; nothing in this game can harm you. Unfortunately, the scary parts only last for the first few minutes. After the first toy, the game loses its suspense and becomes just another walking sim. The kid's frequent blackouts are another thing I didn't like. This gimmick is used to move you somewhere else, however it seemed to happen virtually every time you did something. Despite being typical, the rooms lack intriguing features. Except for empty drawers, there is nothing you can interact with, and you can't even pick items up to look at them more closely. The game can be finished in an hour and achievements work.
Neat idea, and interesting as a concept but the game-play with the camera is frustrating and takes away from the game
