RPG game, turn-based combat, roguelite, humor, Match 3, 2D. There is no real plot, the protagonist follows a path where she meets bizarre characters, dialogues with them, and can decide whether to fight or go further. There are 8 routes that we can complete. The basis of the game is the Match 3 grid where we do not have a specific symbol for our character, depending on the symbols we match the effects change; For example, if we match coins we accumulate money, fire burns, green plants poison, stones cause damage, roses and jugs do nothing. You must pay attention because certain symbols do not work in the same way with enemies, some figures make reinforcements appear to opponents, for this reason every play it's different, it seems like an easy game, but that's not the case, we can find Bosses well supported by helpers who are difficult to beat. To help us we can find merchants who will sell us potions and symbols to add to the grid. IF you die, don't worry, don't go back to the menu, click on "Continue" and you will move on, without losing the money you have accumulated. Through skillful dialogue it is possible to ask some character we meet if he travels with us to help us. The dialogues are characterized by a somewhat silly and funny humor. The graphics are particularly striking, using strong colors and bold brushstrokes, it seems hand-drawn. I recommend it, it doesn't require much memory, it's simple and fun as a pastime
For more puzzle game reviews, news and everything puzzle-related, follow Puzzle Lovers and check out our Steam group.
a match-three game structured around a slay the spire like foundation and art direction, full of nightpost-y and rat loving humor. very light hearted and surprisingly addictive. while it does need some tweaking in the bug department, idylls of the lunar maria is shaping up to be a great cozy roguelike to calm, rainy evenings and warm tea. i wish there was a bit more control regarding where to go of which events to see, like in sts, and that stores offered more items to have more input in the kind of build you end up with. as always, poison is king. anyway, it's lovely! i found myself charmed by the crayon like textures and the cute designs. the dialogues were super charming and can't wait to jump back and do the other storylines. for more reviews of games that are cute and cozy, that are creepy and have some crawlies (or both!) consider checking my curator page out: https://store.steampowered.com/curator/44079361/
Very fun little Match-3 type game with a charming Art Style. Disclaimer: I got a free key from the Dev over on Reddit, so while i don't know him, i have not paid for the game and i am probably a little biased. Ill try to stay as neutral as possible in this review though. The Story is very rudimentary and partially incomplete, but that is to be expected with an early access game. It also doesn't seem like the focus of the game, so it doesn't hurt the experience much. What is there of the story and characters is very well made, the characters you meet are silly in a charming way, and the dialogue is short but entertaining. The gameplay is what you would expect from these merging games. i have very little experience with the genre, so i can't tell you if its better or worse than similar games, but it was fun and i didn't have any major gripes with it. The star of the game is definitely the art style tho. The game has a hand drawn look to it (i don’t know wether it is actually hand drawn, but id assume so) and all the characters and environments look amazing. The only issue with the look of the game for me would be the sometimes low frame rate of animations, as well as a lack of smaller animations like attack/hit animations fro the player and the monsters you fight. this is fairly easy to fix, but certainly requires a lot of time, so id say this is something to work on once the rest of the game is done. A little bit of constructive criticism i found while playing: - The UI is sometimes a little unintuitive. especially the main menu looks like just a normal frame at first. try to make clickable elements more visible, for example by giving them an outline or raising them when hovered over. - Some of the explanation screens seem to be wrong, i had instances where the same item was listed under "merge these" and "don't merge these", - Add a tutorial (I know this is work in progress, so no worries there, the game was just a bit confusing for me at first. a tip that explains that you can hover over enemies to see how they attack would be nice, it took me a bit to figure that out) Overall id definitely recommend this game if you enjoy merging games. I'm not sure if i would currently pay full price for it (mainly because i don't have too much interest in the genre), but if you like this type of game, id say go for it. As stated, the game is early access. so don't expect a completed game. once the story lines are complete, I'm very optimistic that the game will be worth the Price tho. P.s. Just saw that there is a demo, so just try that out and see for yourself if you like it.
A very cute and quirky but also obtuse game. In their adventure, the player chooses a character, combats using a match-3 system, and encounters many events and shops that they can use to modify their board and abilities. The huge variety of hand-painted visuals are beautiful and there's the beginnings of what could become a deep roguelite experience. However it has the flaws of often being too easy (at least for me, a seasoned roguelite enthusiast) and the game does not do a great job of explaining exactly what's going on and what all tiles do. It could also use a more diverse shop and I always felt like I had too much gold leading to no pressure to choose purchases selectively. These are actually minor issues that can easily be addressed during the rest of development, so I'm excited to see how it turns out and will certainly be coming back for it.
Lovely little cozy game about funny little guys. The artstyle and dialogue is all so cute and funny but in a totally unconventional way, i want to talk to more rats. The sound design is great too, satisfying crunchy sound effects and atmospheric background noise. The reverb in certain areas is really powerful and draws me in. Match 3 gameplay isn't my go-to but i quite like it. i appreciate the complexity that all the many different enemies bring to the combat. I think if i had anything negative to say about the gameplay it's that it feels a bit disconnected to the little characters you meet and the story of the campaigns. All the match 3 segments are about simply killing the enemy and not dying, but the enemies are random and have nothing to do with the story being told. The dialogue you can have with the funny characters is my favourite part of the game and it would be nice if the match 3 stuff had more to do with them. That's a small complaint though, overall the experience is very enjoyable and i highly recommend playing through it to try and find all the little characters you can talk to (there are a LOT of them).
This game is delightful! There's so many little guys to meet! The match-3 gameplay is very comfy and well-paced, and makes satisfying little noises. I love the way this game is written, it's really funny and surprising how the conversations with all the little guys go. GOTTA play it!
I'm not too big on matching games, and this one unfortunately doesn't do much to distinguish it gameplay wise. However, the atmosphere is very cozy, the art is really neat, and the dialogue is excellently silly. The only thing that holds the game back is the fact that it's a matching game, creativity oozes from every other part of the game.
This is the best match-3 game ever made ez
Idylls of the Lunar Maria is a quirky match-3 with surprisingly interactive tiles and range of enemies. Also features 3 characters with their own stories (although the writing isn't a strong point). Needs a little more balance & polish but fun. Easy enough for kids. Idylls of the Lunar Maria is a quirky match-3 game where you match tiles to attack, defend & heal while trying not to trigger enemy attacks. Can also combo into more powerful abilities. A tad easy.
