Nota: 6\10
Ember Kaboom is a fun and challenging platformer game. The thing I liked the most is level design. In each level they introduce a new feature, like flying platforms, different enemies and so on. So the game never gets boring. The graphics might fool you into thinking this is one of those bad amateur games that take up half of the steam store right now, but this most definitely not. Pros: + Good platformer + Fastpaced and challenging + Interesting levels Cons: - No leaderboard and achievements - The game is pretty short if you're good with platformers This is a nice platformer game to pass a couple of boring evenings with and the price is low even when it's not on sale. Recommended to all platformer lovers out there.
Game does not know if it is a platformer or a running game. Lives system in this century? Attemps various things (platforms, water) but does no one well. Odd fonts and very unpolished game.
One of the better platformers on Steam. ( and I don't say that lightly )
There are a lot of Mario-style games on Steam, but Ember Kaboom is one of the better ones I've played. The graphics are super cute, and the worlds are varied. There was a lot to do, and I liked the animal friend levels that let you ride on bees or goats. The background music is pretty catchy as well. The platforming controls work well, and there's a grand total of 12 chapters, which equals 36 levels in total. One of my favourite levels was the second to last level which was rainbow coloured. I do think some changes could be made to make the game a little bit more interesting, however. First of all, consider adding powerups. Especially for the bee levels, a shoot powerup would make the game more enjoyable. Secondly, add some more boss fights along the way that aren't just running from something. I really liked the final battle against the witch, and was disappointed that there aren't more levels like that. Also, the ice levels were just plain awful and give you very little control over your character. I expect ice levels to be a little slippery, but you are literally incapable of stopping your character in these and it's just not very fun. Even with those issues, however, I still had lots of fun with this game. The difficulty kicked my butt and times, but it just made me more determined to pick myself up and power through them. It also works with both controllers and the keyboard very well. In conclusion, Ember Kaboom is a very fun, Mario-like game. While it is short, it is also challenging and enjoyable.
Great game really loved it.
good platformer
Ember Kaboom's a fairly unimpressive, short platformer that still manages to offer just enough to be decent fun for a little while, especially if you get it on sale for pocket change. The game's divided into 12 chapters with 3 levels each. If you get Game Over before beating the third level in a chapter, you need to re-start that chapter. You always start a new chapter with 4 lives, and can get more by either collecting 100 swirls or finding 1-ups in out-of-the-way places. Levels are fairly short, usually with a checkpoint near the middle. There's a lot of platforming and bouncing off enemy heads, which occasionally gets a little frustrating due to the physics. The controls aren't bad per se, but they do feel a little floaty with some hard to gauge momentum (and some of the worst ice physics I've ever seen). The graphics are decent pixel art and the tunes didn't leave an impact (although I played much of the game with the volume low so I could listen to videos in the background). Oh, and there are no achievements or trading cards, if you're interested. Having said all that, there are a few things in Ember Kaboom that I appreciated. Most levels are given some kind of gimmick that makes them a little different from other levels; Wind physics, conveyor belts, darkness, timed activated bridges, etc. There were a handful of levels where you ride an animal and I found that charming. I found the penultimate level to be quite beautiful in its simplicity. It's also really short, so it doesn't require a big investment to see what it has to offer. It's nothing particularly special, but it's a decent experience for what it is.
