About

I Hate This Place is an isometric craft-based survival horror game set in a cursed land filled with reality-bending nightmares and terrifying creatures that thrive in the dark. You’ll need to scavenge, build, sneak, and fight if you want to make it out alive.

Scavenge every corner of Rutherford Ranch to stay alive. From haunted forests, a derelict town, to infested bunkers. Explore a world teeming with danger as you gather vital resources, craft essential gear, upgrade your campsite, and rebuild outposts to have somewhere to hide.

A dynamic day-night cycle that changes the world. Use daylight wisely to explore, scavenge supplies, craft what you need, and prepare for what’s coming. When night falls, the real nightmares come out to play. More enemies appear, stronger and more aggressive than before. The landscape becomes harder to navigate with just your flashlight. Sometimes your best hope is to find shelter and hunker down till morning.

Stealth and combat go hand-in-hand here as many of the twisted creatures in Rutherford Ranch hunt and stalk you by sound alone. Brute force will often just land you in an early grave. Use sound to your advantage, luring creatures away from your path or cleverly leading them straight into deadly traps you laid.

Inspired by the award-nominated comic book series created by Kyle Starks and Artyom Topilin, I Hate This Place comes to life with bold colors, a punchy retro comic book style, and a heavy dose of '80s flair. A unique blend of horror, dark humor, and just the right touch of camp and gore where unsettling dread meets stylized charm.

遊戲設計只有表面做好,沒有內涵可言。武器冇獨特性,Boss戰卡bug位可站著KO,如果你抱著玩個好遊戲,你買了必定後悔~
I like the game and hope that the dev team can launch more content for it. The game reminds me of the evil within 2 due to the crafting mechanics, exploration and creepy atmosphere.

Update: Ive played the game more since the i posted this video and unfortunately the issues i mentioned do become far more prevalent further into the game. Hence im updating my verdict to not recommended. I do hope the developer takes the feedback from the community and updates the game as there are some positives, however the issues and balance problems outweigh these in the current state. Hello Im Skill Incarnate and Welcome to My Games Review Series. My reviews cover indie games that i have bought, had gifted to me and have been provided by developers for review. In this episode I check out a new Survival Horror Game on steam called I Hate This Place on Steam. This game was developed by Rock Square Thunder and is published by Feardemic who also released the Isometric Defence Game, Ritual: Crown Of Thorns. I Hate This Place is an adaption of the Comic Book Series, taking place in an alternate version of the American Deep South. The player controls Elena Rutherford, a young girl returning to her family home, a place steeped in the supernatural. When her best friend is taken by followers of the Horned Man, a deity feared and worshipped by the local populace, its up to Elena to confront her past and return to a home she thought she had left behind for good. In addition to Elenas ability to speak with spirits, she will use an arsenal of conventional and magical weapons and tools in order to survive the supernatural forces of her home, whilst investigating the horned mans origins and the disappearance of her mother many years ago This game did release to mixed reviews, and I did encountered some issues during my time playing the campaign. This included janky controls, an unreliable stealth system and a horror environment which didnt feel as atmospheric as other horror games. What the game does excel is in its fantastic visuals, using an art style inspired by the comics, as well as in its worldbuilding and exploration. The campaign allows you to travel through haunted forests, underground bunkers, abandoned mines as well as alternate dimensions full or supernatual entities, with the player solving puzzles and communicating with spirits. Youll also need to defend yourself against the minions of the horned man by crafting an arsenal of home made firearms, traps and explosives. If your a fan of horror games like Resident Evil and Silent Hill, and you dont mind a game that leans more into an action based adventure rather than horror, then you will want to check this game out. Just be aware that it does have a few rough edges Please note: All opinions in this video are my own. I hate this game. Sorry, not sorry!
I Hate This Place, Reviewed by Someone Who, Actually, Rather Likes It. The game opens with awkward voice work and rigid character movement, but the world’s exploration, crafting, and storyline settle into a steady rhythm once you begin to roam. The game’s odd corners and small surprises give it a crooked charm that keeps you moving from one task to the next. Stealth and direct combat both work cleanly, and the game never argues with you about which one you choose. Footnote: During testing, one build spawned a single lantern in every room of the map, and the team spent an entire afternoon trying to figure out which line of code believed the world needed that much light.

Devs gave me a key to check out their game on stream, and here's my honest opinion of it. First of all, the positives. I absolutely adored the art style of it, the funny and goofy dialogue, and even the gameplay itself. The sketchbook is an amazing touch and I love that the map adds locations that you discover, to make you explore but never forget where you've been. The combat is also fun in general. It's a very unique game and is one I am looking forward to finishing and see what else it has to offer. The negatives, however. The game doesn't offer you any tutorial of sort, it doesn't even give you controls besides the ones on screen. I don't need the game to teach me everything, however, I think just the basic controls being shown would go a long way instead of me having to go to the settings to find them. Second, if you give a wrong answer on ghost events, you're permanently locked out of blueprints. You should be able to redo the event if you get it wrong imo. I only found this out recently. The fields one was also frustrating to me. Also, I spent a lot time running around until I realised you can kill the ghosts, because again, no tutorial or anything of the sort. Third, the base building makes the game incredibly easy immediately. The amount of food and resources you can get is out of this world and I think it should be toned down. There's no penalty to just going to bed and waiting for more resources if you need, so I didn't really feel like I struggled to manage my items. Throwing a can to make noise still makes the monsters immediately zoom in on as if you made the sound and not the can. At least, that was my experience on the three cans I threw. And lastly, sometimes the voice lines either don't play or are delayed. It doesn't happen a lot, but it still happens. Do I recommend this game? Yes, definitely. There's some issues here and there, but it is a very fun game. Give it a try yourselves! Thanks again Devs and Keymailer for the key <3
