Just like Redlock's other game BLACKSHARD, the vibes are immaculate. Their surreal dreamscapes are astounding to explore, and they evoke an almost psychedelic feeling. With HYPNOS, I appreciate that it has a more overt narrative to drive me to explore further compared to BLACKSHARD. I love how both games seem to share a connective tissue, and I look forward to discovering more of it as I play further through both games and when HYPNOS exits early access. Since it's early access, there are some drawbacks, but they don't entirely ruin the otherwise wonderfully surreal experience, and I hope they won't apply to the full release. I still appreciate that a small indie team managed to achieve what they did. There's a lack of signposting in its massive semi-open environments, so you often seem to be lost in areas of the level that you feel like you shouldn't be in. (Or at least shouldn't be in yet) There's a wide range of asset quality. You could be looking at a cliff face with highly detailed texture work, while sparsely detailed rocks jut out with highly compressed textures. Some 3D models seem to be made with detail and care, while others feel almost like placeholder quality. Optimization needs work. I feel like I should be getting far better performance than I do given its sometimes lesser detailed assets and environments. Looking forward to seeing what the completed game has to offer!
I don't usually post review for EA games which juste released into EA. But here i make an exception cause i fully trust that the peoples at Redlock and Enclave will deliver a gem. Like their prievious game was. Hypnos is clearly an iteration over BLACKSHARD for me. Basically BLACKSHARD but bigger ? In some ways. More characters/npc, more lore, more space ? And i think that last one is trully what hype me, i love BLACKSHARD, and the things that make me love it are still there, the incredibles scenery, (2h of gameplay in the first sesion, 120+ screenshots). The liberty of movement (any thing which is not at 90deg angle can be climbed). The little places where a collision plane is missing, letting you see things in other ways. The areas, So yeah i need more, and will await with eaferness the updates. At time of review (05/2026) the experience is somewhat short depending of your wandering so for me it is a support buy. That's the promise of early access after all. I would say if the screenshots appeal to you, and that this kind of wandering game is your thing, go for it, the devs did it once. With players support thay can do it again :D There is a demo anyway just to know if this is your type of games. If you don't have already you could also buy and play BLACKSHARD (there is a demo too), if you liked this one, you will most certainly like HYPNOS.
Hypnos is a semi continuation of Black Shard of which Im a continous cheerleader for. Maybe the best visual gaming experience yet for those of us not interested in blowing everything up and shooting everyone. As with the first one in the series, It is designed to be frustrating just to figure out how to get to places you can see but cant touch. It is a place of constant mystery and art combined with never ending vertigo that lends to the sheer size of the place. Im working with an older graphics card that is no longer supported but I can still get around. Will be playing this again when I get a new system so I can enjoy it in its full glory. Notice I used the word series. This means the dev team behind this amazing work have no choice but to continue making these games for us. Keep up the good work. My need to explore depends on it. That was my positive review before running into a fatal flaw. After all the running around I went back to the cat/god area only to find out that Im stuck there with no way to return. So now all that progress is lost and I have to start a new game....SUPER PISSED
The atmosphere of this experience brings a sense of wonder, awe and a need to poke one's nose into every single corner or crevice, because there is an abundance of hidden areas, nooks and crannies etc..... ( Which, I'm sure, will be filled with all sorts of easter eggs or bonuses such as hidden zones ). The entire City area brings about a deep feeling of peace and happiness alongside a creeping nervousness which slowly simmers in the back of the mind as the lore is revealed. Coupled with what knowledge is gained from ' Black Shard ', it's sister game, This is truly a masterpiece already, despite a few no-clip areas I've come across.
so disapointed you cant climb all over like you could in the first game also if you are at a part where you have a conversation with one of the characters like matthew for instance where he is sitting on the ground in front of the red door and you save to that level guess what if you die before you save at the main level before you walk through the black space else its going to bring you to that same level again with matthew at the red door and now guess what matthew is not going to talk to you again so your stuck in limbo you cant procede i have to now start my game all over again because of this flaw i am so upset hopefully you will fix this problem and the navigation is horrible at least give a small bit of guidance you did this with paths and such on the other one which i loved this one is all over the place
Breathtaking environment design and atmosphere. Period. This is one of my favourite art directions, yet it's so rare for me to come across artistic gems like this and BLACKSHARD. It's truly a feast for the eyes. It feels like an intricate poem embedded in bare visual structure. Minimal words, full scale experience. I honestly can't wait for the full release! The only downside is that there seems to be a bit of an optimisation issue. I have a high end graphics card and I still can't play it on epic settings without major stuttering issues...
