Freedom Fall is a diabolical down-scrolling platformer set in a prison tower so tall it touches the clouds. Presented with hand painted art, its old school vibe mixes with fast-paced free falling action and a story with both dark wit and heart.

The fact that this game only has 156 reviews at the time I'm writing this feels criminal to me. Somehow this game has been out for over 9 years (at time of writing) but flown completely under the radar. It's just a really solid platformer that oozes charm at every turn, courtesy of the text left everywhere for you by the princess. It's quite short, my two hours of playtime are two complete runs (I think, I'm currently revisiting it for what I think is a third playthrough, but I've owned the game for ages), but I find myself enjoying every minute of it. Checkpoints are normally pretty generously spaced so you don't need to repeat too much if you hit a rough section. Unless you're particularly hard up for cash and need to get maximum playtime per dollar (rather than maximum fun per playtime) I'd recommend the game to anyone.
The Good: + Telling the entire story through writings on the wall is a novel and interesting concept. + Restarting from checkpoints after death is basically instant. + Has some good post game content. + Nice clean art through out. The Bad: - Hit boxes are often too big, resulting in a lot of unnecessary deaths. - Music is completely forgettable. - A few plot elements are never tied up. Final thoughts: It's short, the gameplay is simple, the audio is meh, but the wall writing kept me playing. Nearly every wall in the game has something written on it by a character you're chasing. Sometimes its a full paragraph, sometimes it's just a single word, and sometimes its just garbled nonsense, but it's through those bits of text that the world grows and the characters become more alive. Even when these small insights into the world don't state things explicitly, the writing is done well enough that you can often infer what you want to know from them (if you've been paying attention). That's what sets this game apart from other games, and is both the reason I feel it was worth playing and worth recommending. I love this game, i dont know why.. but, it just fills me with joy and hope for sequel. The platforming itself is really easy, You can beat the game under 2 hours but please dont refund it. The music is so good, it fits in most of the levels and situations you find in. The Visuals are really charming and i think its really cute and good for this game, the designs of the characters and levels itself, the visual gags and "secrets" are neat and just everything fits. But one of the strongest parts of this game its the narrative and story telling, the "dialogues" you could say. They are absolutely amazing and funny, even when its just writings/paintings on the wall it just makes the world feels set in and alive. At times i felt like i was insulted by Handsome Jack which i found funny and just soo good. And the story its simple yet it just sucks you kinda in. I know its funny that its in an platforming game with zero dialogue and just writings on the wall but it is really that good. I definetly recommend this game, maybe not in the full price since yeah its only 2 hours (maybe more if you really want to go for the achievments) so maybe pick it up on a sale or not, it all depends on you, but be sure you will have fun with this one. Its why I love and adore Indie games.
A criminally underrated platformer. Fun gameplay, lots of humor, cute graphics, interesting environments, and multiple endings. It's genuinely a really good game, I don't understand why indie fans slept on it.
Short, sweet and fun little platformer with a lot of personality!
Very short, very easy and very hard to look at. Something about the framerate and the art style makes it painful to look at, I beat this game in under an hour without using any of the powerups. If you're considering this game, go play Super Meat Boy instead.
soooo amazed by the quality and how enjoyable this game ended up to be! wasn't expecting too much coming in but it was a BLAST from start to finish! thank you again for creating such excellent platformer to all of us to play through and through ;) wouldn't mind seeing a sequel of this game in the near future..!
Very short and average platformer.
