Gameplay-wise, its a fairly standard turn-based RPG. Airdashing on world map feels fun, but lets be so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fr. You're not here for the gameplay. This is a game you play for the surreal and wacky art, and the smooth electric guitar, and those weirdo ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ enemies all. Moving around like that. Take a look at the trailer. You ♥♥♥♥ with that? I ♥♥♥♥ with that. If you ♥♥♥♥ with it too get the game. It's awesome.
The platforming in this game is the worst thing I've ever played. You can only move in 8 directions, but the game asks you to navigate curves and jumps at angles that are very awkward and almost impossible. Also, because of the art-forward nature of the visuals, some of the platforms are impossible to intuit the position or height of. Despite these rage-inducing platforming challenges, I cannot poorly review this game because the art and story are just too entertaining and beautiful.

You know a game is good when it's named Hylics 2
a weird, psychadelic-rock turn-based RPG adventure made entirely with claymation. fun battles, groovy soundtrack, and absolutely killer visual vibe. everyone should play hylics 2. that's it, that's the review.
This game is unlike anything I've ever played before. I don't think there's a way to describe just how incredible the art direction in this game is, you just have to play it. It's a hypnotic experience traversing the map, learning enemies' patterns while they tauntingly dance in front of you, and seeing some of the weirdest ♥♥♥♥ you'll ever see brought to life through claymation. There are so many moving parts when it comes to how Mason Lindroth's art is incorporated into the game, but there was almost never a moment where it didn't feel cohesive and intentional. I only say "almost" there because there were a couple times where depth perception was an issue in overworld platforming, but that could be a skill issue on my part. It's also hard to complain about spending extra time in the overworld when Chuck Salamone's beautiful, psychedelic soundtrack is soothing your ears. The music really elevates the already stellar art direction to a level I didn't think was possible before playing this game. I truly believe that there will never be another game like Hylics. There will be games that are just as good, just as creative, just as engaging, but will never capture the same feeling. I could argue for years about how video games are an art form, but if I wanted to prove that point to you beyond a shadow of a doubt, I'd just sit you down and make you play even an hour of Hylics or Hylics 2. TLDR; good game i liked it. play it.
Hylics 2 continues the psychedelic surrealist presentation of its predecessor, which of course would be expected in how much of its identity comes from that. As a game, what you're getting here past the VERY stylish presentation is a fairly solid turn-based RPG with some interesting mechanics in the spells. Lots of heavy focus around status ailments, both in terms of ones you cast upon the distorted monsters of the world and ones your party may become afflicted with, which is not always a bad thing. The overworld is pretty cozy to maneuver, though I found myself getting lost a number of times due to to the scale of the larger world map, but also because of the unconventional design of the smaller maps. If you can get past that though, this is overall a pretty solid experience. Definitely an upgrade over its RPG Maker-made predecessor, which in itself was already a bit of a stylistic flash in the pan even amongst its other abstract contemporaries. (OFF, Space Funeral, Ib, Yume Nikki, etc) Give it a shot if you're invested enough in those trippy elements.
