the rizzler reveals his favourite rpgmaker game:
Game so fun I bought it twice I 100%'d the game back in 2024 when it came out on gamejolt cuz my steam account was hacked at the time and was too eager to play it. Now ive bought the game again but on steam this time and just 100%'d it again. Take my word, this game is awesomesauce :D
Honestly when I was starting this game I was kind of expecting it to be a good game but nothing that would stand out… I am SO GLAD I was wrong. This has easily been one of the best indies I have played in a while, and I can definitely tell the developers put all their love and care into making this goofass Halloween world a reality. It’s very sweet, and there is a lot to love here. I think the story is very good from beginning to end, the cast is (mostly) very good, and I think this game’s crowning jewel is the artstyle: it’s very striking, even outside of the game being an rpgmaker game, and I think lends this game to being one of the more visually notable in a fair bit. The combat is about what you’d expect but you know what? That’s a good thing: it’s still a very fun combat system. I do have a few complaints but thankfully it’s not too many. I think some characters kinda stink, but with a cast this large I think that is to be expected. I think the secret bosses could have used at least one better hint or two though: they’re all really pushed out the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ grid in terms of ease of knowledge, at least that’s how I felt so far. Otherwise yeah I really enjoyed this game: I am very glad I got to hear about this, and I really am excited to see BatWorks and their next project, Act M.

TL:DR This is one of my new favorite video games of all time and I wish I played it soon. You will also wish you played it sooner. Horrorvale is what happens when you combine Lisa and Undertale into one game and then give it a Nightmare Before Christmas makeover. What you end up with is one of the funniest, most charming and content deep Indie Games on the market. The characters and the world are very enthralling and you can get sucked right in. There are over 30 different party members to find, all with (mostly) their own stories. The gameplay is a standard turn based RPG. If you've played Lisa, Classic Final Fantasy or others, you'll get right into it. Its simple to get into but until the end nothing very challenging. If you're not a fan though its not all the game has going for it. There are no random encounters on the overworld and if you slay an enemy they are permanently gone from the overworld. Meaning its mostly not a chore unlike older games. There's also a lot of puzzles and, in my 60+ hour near 100% playthrough. There were only two whole puzzles I would call foul on. Anything else is pretty decent all things considered which help break up the standard turn based battles. But the main meat here is the characters and the world. Which is one of the best I've ever experienced in the indie scene. Very charming, very funny. (Though humor is subjective) This game also acts as a major celebration of both Horror and Indie. There are many, many, MANY references to classic horror icons, modern horror icons, Internet horror icons and a few memes sprinkled about. But they distract from the big picture, they are funny but not spotlighted. They do not (outside of one specific case towards the end) take away from the really solid story either. If you remotely enjoy RPGs or anything remotely close to Earthbound or Undertale. Pick this up yesterday and play it. Its GOTY material and would've topped my list had I played it sooner. I cannot recommend it higher.
I'd go mixed if I could. Didn't complete the game yet, but I've seen enough to highlight some things. + Nice theme/lore + Fun characters, this is where most of the focus has been for the game + Good music (though so many fights that you'll hear some battle songs numerous times) + Many different companions (31) for party of four + Party XP, so no companion ever falls behind, allowing experimentation * Story is nothing special, it's mostly the character interactions that are entertaining * Many references to internet horror games like Sonic.exe or Ao Oni etc, as well as others. Personally I feel like game leans a bit too much into this as the world building could stand on its' own - Too easy. I am bored to death of numerous, numerous fights where no strategy is required of me and where I'm just going through the motions, I put animations to 2x speed but still feels slow. This is the main reason why I may not finish the game, as it requires nothing of me (apart from far and in-between secret bosses that take a little effort) - Many "minigames" and they all suck. Whether it's sloooooowly floating around a pit avoiding spikes, lever puzzle in a minecart level or shooting plastic ducks, the minigames drain my soul of any joy I could possibly experience I'll have to seriously consider if I finish the game, but those who are looking for cozy vibes RPG to take it easy, you could do worse than HorrorVale. There's a lot to like, if you don't mind how easy and slow the game is.
I was having a bad day when I first played this game. It took a while for me to get the menu controls, and the first Act wasn't all that fun. I concluded that I didn't like the game and got a refund. But, after watching the friend who recommended it to me in the first place, I decided to give it a shot. 170 Hours later and I can't believe I almost wrote this game off entirely. The teambuilding in this game is so much fun, and everything from the vibes to the story to the music is utterly immaculate. It is criminally unfair how obscure this game is, and I will fight tooth and nail to get more recognition for it whenever possible.
this game was so spooky and charming it made me ♥♥♥♥ my pants with glee thank you omegaguy_101 for making that terraria music pack based on this game holy moly
This game is criminally underrated. It's one of the funniest, most endearing games I've ever played. It's become my favorite RPG, there's so much to explore and enjoy. The entire game is a love letter to all things horror, from classic monster movies to modern internet tales. I love all the characters, there are so many party members to meet and they're all so varied in both gameplay and personality. I cannot sing the praises of this game enough.
<3 I LOVE IT <3
I LOVE this game. The characters are fun, the quests are fun, the story is fun. It pulled off an endgame twist that would normally turn me away in a way I enjoyed!! There's not one character I didn't enjoy! There's also such a wonderful, kind community surrounding this game. Everyone is so lovely. I'm no good at voicing my thoughts, But this game has brought me at least one wonderful friend& more good times than I can count on my ten fingers& ten toes. Yay!
