An incredibly charming love-letter to the horror genre. I'd highly recommend if you're a fan of turn-based RPGs. The characters are all very endearing, the gameplay is consistently exciting, and the world-building is fascinating. I couldn't stop playing!

one of the most fun RPGmaker games out there right now. a great story filled with a beautifully fleshed-out cast of characters, packed with so many references to horror media throughout the modern era. there are a few issues with the combat and narrative pacing, but overall this is pretty much a must-play for anyone who loves horror in any capacity.

So some years ago I was browsing Steam for around an hour, and I found the demo of this game. I played it, liked it, and then forgot about it. I then saw some updates about delays to the game in the Steam news section. But eventually the game came out, but the developers accidently made the demo page the main game page so anyone who downloaded the demo would get the full game for free. So I played the game and I saw the revamped Act 1. I didn't really know what to expect but I didn't expect a fifty hour RPG. The game kept surprising me again and again, with unexpected twists that felt earned. I played the launch version, and haven't really played any of the post launch content. This is one of the best games I've played and it is terribly underrated. I truly believe this could be the next thing to take the internet by storm. The combat of the game is entertaining. I'd describe it as a more friend version of LISA in that way, having the large pool of party members that fill special niches. It doesn't really get all that complex unless you want to fight some of the optional bosses early or do the post game boss rematches. I actually managed to do a challenge run that was a solo run only using the main character. It took me around one hundred hours to beat and I am the third person to do it so far. The game is choke full of references to all types of horror and general 2000 to 2016 internet culture. I've never really been a horror fan, more of a Sci-Fi type of guy, but I was able to get most of the references through cultural osmosis. The whole game is classic horror versus classic internet horror. It is a pretty beautiful celebration of all horror and it is nice to see just genuine passion for something. I want to one day make a video that properly expresses my massive love for this game but this kinda long Steam review will suffice for now.

As of recently i have just gotten the standard ending for this game, and if I where to explain my feelings lightly: This has to be one of the most well-made RPGs i have ever played. all the care and love put into these characters, each with so much emotion and care put into them. I could easily give this game a yes reccomendation for each of them (Plum especially #plumsweep) but just... This is the greatest game I have ever played. I dont often review games, but this... I wanted to wait for the final major update to the game before reviewing this game, and while I've yet to play through the game fully, what I have experienced with walking around and checking things out only adds to my thoughts from my first playthrough. Those thoughts being, this is one of, if not just straight up, my favourite video game of all time. While HorrorVale doesn't try and innovate the RPG formula, what it does do is tell a sweet story about death and coming to terms with it. All while having fun with jokes, clever references to several things and characters across horror as an art form, and plays out as a solid RPG. There are some things I can nitpick on, the 2 well minigames aren't that fun, and the post game reward for beating the main story is more cool on paper rather than in practice. But like I said, I'm nitpicking. None of these little annoyances took me out of the enjoyment of the game. I fully encourage anyone and everyone to give this game a look. Even after the Halloween season, yes its vibes are definitely spooky halloweeny coded, but this game genuinely holds up beyond it's spooky vibes as something I can come back to any time of year. It's just a good RPG. Good enough to stand with Super Mario Galaxy and Super Smash Brothers Ultimate as one of my favorite video games of all time.

I first played this game back when there was the Act 1 Demo and really enjoyed it so much that I often replayed the demo just for fun, waiting for the full game. When it did release, I didn’t play it instantly because I live in a lower class house, so I didn't get it but wanted to play it. So at the time, I pirated it so I could play it, which… I LOVED IT! But then when my birthday came around last year, I wanted to get it. Since I'm still quite young, I asked my dad and then actually got the game. Now I have done everything in the game, and the reason I'm typing this as a review is because I wanted to show my love for this awesome little indie game!

Very goofy, charming, and overall a fun RPG with LOTS of likable characters!! (Kris is my goat)

This game is criminally underrated. It's one of the funniest, most endearing games I've ever played. It's become my favorite RPG, there's so much to explore and enjoy. The entire game is a love letter to all things horror, from classic monster movies to modern internet tales. I love all the characters, there are so many party members to meet and they're all so varied in both gameplay and personality. I cannot sing the praises of this game enough.
