About
Explore outer space with your word-finding skills.
You are dealt a handful of letters and must make words on an empty grid. Letters replenish with oxygen after you use them, and so you have to make new words, to find new oxygen. The grid might not be empty anymore but don't fret, it is as boundless as the universe itself. Oxygen on the other hand...
In Mission mode, set your own difficulty with 28 unique modifiers and try to beat the game by mining up resources.
In Journey mode, set out to explore the galaxy. Stop at various space stations to acquire and upgrade items to help you along on your wordy journey. Stretch your web of words as far as possible and discover as many planets as you can.
Plays entirely with the mouse. A run may last for a couple of hours. Features a save system.

Horizons is a cute and (very) simple word game. In this game, putting down letters uses oxygen.... As another reviewer said: You have to un-learn the rules of other word games you're used to because here none of the words/letters have values. The bigger the word, the more oxygen it costs. I thought it was cute and I grinned. Unfortunately, this game relies so heavily on that idea that it just doesn't feel challenging to constantly put 3-letter words down ... It actually makes me feel lazy....
Super fun game. I'm not very good at scrabble, which this is based off, but it is still delightful to discover new planets and little stations, or try out a new writer for the first time. I'm a patreon of Punkcake because they make games I like with great consistency.

HORIZONS: THE END OF WORDS is a scrabble-like where you set down letter tiles to create words that blossom into long winding routes into the stars! The roguelike mission mode is good for a quick hit (and it very much is a roguelike in the most traditional sense of the word: turn-based with no meta progression mechanics), but for real wordgame fiends JOURNEY mode is where it's at: explore a solar system, discover planets, uncover space stations and writing feathers to upgrade your ship/abilities, and try not to run out of oxygen and die!
"Horizons: The End Of Words" takes the classic word-building gameplay of Scrabble and launches it into the vastness of outer space. This challenges players to strategically form words, manage resources and explore the galaxy in a unique blend of puzzle and roguelike genres. Developed by the talented PUNKCAKE Délicieux, this game began as a GMTK Game Jam entry and has since been transformed into a full premium experience. With a focus on word-based puzzles and an expansive universe to discover, it offers a refreshing take on the genre that will enchant both word enthusiasts and space explorers alike. In this game, you must use a limited supply of letters and oxygen to create words on an ever-expanding grid; however, you’ll also navigate the challenges of outer space. There are two distinct game modes – Mission and Journey – which allows players to choose their preferred level of difficulty. This ensures an adventure that suits their playstyle, although it can be tricky at times. Mission mode (which offers 28 unique modifiers) lets you change the game's difficulty and test your skills in word-building while you mine resources and try to beat the game. Journey mode, however, encourages exploration as you travel between different space stations, acquire new items and upgrade your capabilities to extend your galactic voyage. Exclusively controlled with the mouse, this game features a 3-slot save system. Designed for both casual and dedicated players it has an easy-to-learn interface with the option to save your progress. Because there’s no timer, the game creates a relaxed atmosphere, but the ability to undo actions before playing each word provides a leisurely experience. Supporting Windows, macOS and Linux platforms with one graphic resolution in window or full screen, the game is accessible to many players. It features adjustable sound effects and music sliders, along with a word dictionary for English, French and Spanish, allowing players to tailor their experience to their preferences. With 40 Steam Achievements to unlock, there’s always a new goal to strive for as you venture deeper into the cosmos. In conclusion, "Horizons: The End Of Words" is a captivating space-themed word puzzle game that combines strategic gameplay, resource management with galactic exploration to create a truly unique and engaging experience. With two game modes, customizable settings and a wealth of content to discover, this inventive title is sure to charm both word puzzle lovers and space enthusiasts alike. This game is a fantastic little word game for the price tag. It takes a bit to unlearn some habits from Scrabble or other word games which score based on the letter, but that means this feels like it stands apart from those games as well.
Highly recommend. I played the original game jam entry, and Mission mode hews close to that with some nice improvements (like the score/difficulty system), but it's the Journey mode that stands out. It does to tile-laying crossword games (like Scrabble) what Dorfromantik did to tile-laying region-matching games (like Carcassone). There's even resources to track, ability cooldowns, consumables, shops, upgrades, and minigames. Music is fantastic, too! It's also the only game I can think of where I can travel through space with my buds Jane Austen, Haruki Murakami, and Fyodor Dostoevsky. So yeah, love it.
More frustrating than fun.
It's a bit bare bones at the moment, but I think it is a good game for the price. There are only a few missions, and a few different types of locations, but if nothing else, it is a good way to remember your 2-4 letter words if you enjoy scrabble, but only if you use the collins dictionary(the real dictionary). As best I can tell, you can go forever in a run. I'm over 6 hours in and still on my first run. Maybe resources will get sparser as I go out from the center and I will eventually lose, but I'm enjoying the game for now.
At first sight it starts as a promising scrabble game but when l started to play l found it confusing. The graphics is so blurred and the letters are so small that it hurts my eyesight. It cannot be set up like in the schess game (of the same developer). There is no tutorial but we have 2 play mode. I cannot decide which is why or what. But the main problem is, if the 3 empty save spaces are filled, l cannot start a new game. After the game finishes - because of the lack of oxygen- why do l run out of oxygen, l have not any clue- I need to push the 'give up' button. I have got some helps on the right corner of the screen, but those are also foggy without normal explanation for a human being. I thought for a long time that they are opponents who are giving me the letters. The game is promising, but l think it is only in an early phase. I am willing to change this negative review into positive as soon as it will be updated and more player friendly. Please if you find this review 'funny' do not leave any mark. Thank you for reading this through.
