6/10 . And a narrow positive for me. Pro - Like a modernized version of Qbert. Graphics looks good. Game play is quite decent. - A relaxed version of Qbert. You can stop and even though on each level there is a main enemy that hunts you and shoots at you sometimes the rest has predictable paths - Warp tunnels on the board allowing you to appear on the other side of the board allowing more tactical flexibility. Con - Later uses time as a difficulty factor - Bugs: Seem to be rare but it happens that a enemy gets stuck at the bottom part of the screen making it impossible to beat the level with that life if you need to visit that square. - Is not in the end better than the game it takes it's inspiration from. I can't trash this with a negative. I played it and i enjoyed it but it could be better as well. Price actually reflects pretty well what kind of complexity in mechanics that you get so keep expectations at bay and you will enjoy this.
🎬Gameplay Video🎬
https://youtu.be/6HiWd536XUM
🤔Overall Impressions🤔

Hoppy Hop is an arcade score chaser loosely based around the classic tile jumper Q*Bert but with a few extras, improved graphics and sound. It can get quite frantic in places, as environments are quite tight, and enemies are never that far away, plus the addition of a timer on each level means you are always against the clock. In later stages, tiles harbour dangers which require quick thinking to avoid, and obtaining high scores will require you to chain together jumps on virgin squares to obtain bonuses. This does require a little strategy and often puts you in danger trying to chain bonuses. There are escape routes which can get you out of tricky situations and a power up in the center that quickens your step. The main attraction is chasing scores on the high score table. These can be quite challenging to beat, and although surviving the seventeen levels, divided between five worlds, is not that difficult with a little practice, it is hard to beat the top scores when your game ends after this cycle. Longevity of the game will depend on this, as achievements are reasonably easy to obtain. I enjoyed Hoppy Hop and it should appeal to arcade fans and high score chasers. I actually preferred this version to Q*Bert as controls seemed tighter and the music was really engaging and uplifting. Although it's not that difficult after a bit of practice, it's really fun and addictive. Played through and 100% achievements in 26 minutes. With only 3 biomes, only 6 different enemies and some don't-jump-here-blocks the content is very scarce and very short. Not that challenging, rather forgiving as you have 3 lives which reset for every level. From the trailer it looked like that the bunny couldn't stop hopping, but that's not the case. You can stop at any time to dodge enemies or their projectiles. So it's not that difficult to dodge. The main focus is to get all platforms within the time limit. Time limits are rarely a fun gameplay element... This felt like a tech demo game on itch.io, but not what I expect from a full game. Not recommended.
Lovely artwork, amazing sound track and lots of fun.
It's modernized Q*Bert for $3. I don't love the mobile-esque UI, and the leaderboards lack quality of life features like being able to only show your friends or easily find your score, but there's not much else to complain about here. A respectable arcade throwback at a fair price.
Hoppy Hop is a cute single screen 80s style arcade game by Josyan, the developer of Tamiku. The game seems to be inspired by Q*bert, an arcade classic. You play as a bunny that's lost and has to find his way home. You clear a level by hopping on each block while avoiding enemies and hazards. Beware of the timer because if it reaches zero you lose a life and have to restart the level iirc. There are bonus items to collect to unlock a bonus level and a special carrot that will make you invulnerable for a short time. The bonus levels contain carrots you can pick up for some extra points, with a special carrot at the end if you manage to collect them all before the timer runs out. There's an interesting scoring mechanic where the points for each block you hop on increases with each block of the same type and resets if you hop on another. For some blocks this is also timed and for others you have to wait until it switches colors I think, not completely sure on this. Each new level you start with 3 lives whether you had less or more before. Unlimited continues allow you to clear the game in one session of around 30mins. This may seem short for some but it's actually a good time for a score chasing arcade game like this. You'll want to play it over and over to maximize your score. The intro can get a bit annoying if you restart a lot, you can use Esc/Start to skip it but maybe it can be disabled with a future update. There may be score exploits linked with letting yourself time out.
