Great RTS. First runthrough and have found it very challenging even on normal mode.
Unbearably ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ slow and for some godforsaken reason not even cheat engines speedhack works. I wanted to love it but when I am spending half my playtime alt tabbed just waiting for ♥♥♥♥ to crawl from one place to another, start over.

Deserts of Kaharck is a well balanced RTS provding a very enjoyable play through and good story line.
I have to give the developers credit, the combat and game loop feels a lot like homeworld despite the vastly different setting, and I found it pleasant. Not quite spectacular but good enough. Where this game shines, like all the classic homeworld games, is atmosphere. The story, cinematics, music, all a fantastic addition to the franchise with some very memorable moments. I suppose it's no surprise the original composer from HW1/2 came back to work on this project, and it absolutely shows. There's a consistency to the overall storytelling despite different settings/game mechanics that other franchises (and HW3 groan) should learn from.

It's a good game and the graphics hold up well. Pity you spend most of the game zoomed in map view. It's campaign + skirmish only; the campaign isn't that long, and the rather same-y units in skirmish limits replay value. Quite rock-paper-scissors, with terrain elevation being useful tactically. While not exactly a 2D Homeworld, it definitely shares a similar ancestry. OK on a big sale but not full price - a good game, but I don't see a huge amount of hours in this one.
