Abandonware, run from this, the story is horrible, only saving grace is the nostalgia behind it
I confirm what others wrote. As I'm playing homeworld mainly for campaing, this is dissapoining chapter of homeworld... As other wrote, main problems are throw-away story, small map locations and somewhat stupid navigation (+ QOL irritation with commands and fleets - you just cant create fleet and replenish it after/during battle) First 2/3 of the game was passable, but last part dropped under the floor, especially ending. BBI created Dessert of Karrak, so the team know how to make good RTS, but it seems that they throw away all good ideas during creation. Ships and backgfraound was good, but was not enough if the scale was this small. Don't buy unless on disscount
So, I remember seeing the trailers initially for this game and being super excited. I had initially been introduced to the series back in 2016 with the announcement of the prequel made by the same devs. I remember playing through this game in particular and at first holding out hope that it got better, which it unfortunately didn't. I remember hoping to get more content to explain what at the very least happened and if they actually made it back or not, unfortunately as we can all tell that story will most likely never be finished. What I honestly believe happened was a major change in the structure of the dev team, the people who made deserts of kharak and that had clearly loved 1 and 2 were not the same people to make this game, that is clear as day. It is honestly a tragic loss for the gaming community since 1 and 2 and the prequel were all amazing games. I do hope one day we'll get someone to pick the reigns up and give us a proper homeworld again.
I found it to be extremely boring.
If you can pick it up for $20 or less, and ignore the story, it's ... fine. 8 hour campaign. As an RTS it's got a nice theme, but the gameplay is mediocre with no interesting choices or interactions. As a Homeworld game it's terrible, but as a cheap space RTS I'm not mad at it. The story is about the worst I've ever encountered. I was actively mad during every cutscene at how awful the story, dialog, and animations were. The motion capture is was so "theater kid" over-emotive that it was really off putting. I don't play games for the story, but this was really, really annoying to experience.
Kurz Fazit: Finger Weg!!!
Homeworld 1 i shed a tear. Homeworld cataclysm i shed a tear and was in fear everytime i heard that beast infection screams. Homeworld 2 i shed a tear Homeworld 3 i didn't I still give is a positive review as my nostalgia just wont allow me not to.
Worst game in the series by far, worth the €2,89 i bought it for tho, otherwise dont buy it
