About
Hirogami is a 3D action platformer inspired by the ancient Japanese art of origami (paper folding). Everything you encounter has been crafted to convey the physical, often fragile, natural world of paper, amidst a story interwoven with threads of wistful intrigue.

Discover new forms to traverse the world, solve puzzles, and best your foes. Roll through obstacles and enemies alike as a hardy Armadillo, traverse the treetops and pound pests as a mighty Ape, and leap to previously unreachable heights as a formidable Frog.

A powerful force of digital creatures - the Blight - is invading the world, defiling the delicate natural balance that has held sway for an age. As Hiro, an enigmatic performer (and master of the art of folding) from Shishiki village, it falls to you to cleanse the mind-warped inhabitants of this world, and to bring peace back to the land.

Explore every nook and cranny and discover all the world’s hidden secrets. Unfold into a sheet of paper to ride fiery updrafts, or to slide under deadly traps. Or become a paper plane to traverse dangerous chasms.

This origami world is a fragile place, and you’ll need your wits about you to protect it. Wield Hiro’s paper fan to blow away the Blight, or pound, pummel, or poison them using your litany of papery powers.

Bask in a soundscape composed using traditional Japanese instruments and styles - specially crafted to evoke the variety of themes, characters and settings of Hirogami.

Game is really good for most part, but little parts of jank. Little issues with swapping between forms which is nothing bad but can be annoying at times. Amazing Art Gettiing new forms and abilities are great Once again origami art great. My only con is there are no hit challenges required and it is very very easy to get hit I say recommend but with other games I'd say 15 dollars is where I'd be comfortable purchasing because of other games in the competition.
The music, art style and concepts for this game are lovely and really fun. Transforming from one shape to another is really smooth on my ps controller, and the puzzles are decent and not frustrating to solve. The game gives me Okami and SNES nostalgia vibes, with cute animals and fun animations for rolling and vine swinging. Love that there is different controller mapping available! And the top-down book pov for level picking is really pretty! The downside would be the terrible camera perspectives and limited control at changing it during key moments for jumping, landing or fighting. The controls themselves can feel a bit clunky, and the hitboxes or jumping can feel a bit off. I also wish the games characters were given some sort of voice when speaking, the dialogue felt like something to be slogged through rather than enjoyed. Easy enough story to follow, but there is some charm missing in cut-scenes and mid-game talks. Overall, a nice game. Would not recommend at full price, but on sale, worth picking up!
Likes: I like the art style and music, and the world view. Floating around as 1 piece of paper is very soothing! Dislikes: The camera keeps on getting further and further away in the latter stages, which dilutes the very unique aesthetics/beauty of the origami forms and folds. Wishes: 1. An easier mode where certain attacks, such as the level 2 charge atk / tornado emitted by the human form can auto aim. 2. Right now, the stages just get more and more punishing, which is too stressful. Instead, since this game has beautiful soundtrack and sound effects, there should be more relaxing / slow paced / silly fun stages. For instance, more stages that allow me to explore each form with wild abandon, without worry of falling or running into obstacles. For e.g., roll around with no fear of going out of bounds, or hitting into spiky boxes. 3. A few invinciblity frames when entering/exiting paper fold to make mastering combat more rewarding.
Hirogami is a very well-made game! The controls are mostly responsive, the levels never felt like they dragged on, always make sure to mix things up every so often, and *most of* the optional objectives never felt like a chore at all! This game's aesthetic is just DROP DEAD GORGEOUS! It instantly captured my imagination, and was the main thing which initially drew me to it upon seeing it at a sony State Of Play! While there isn't much mechanical depth or combos to use in combat, what is present is mixed around in the right ways to still make it feel really engaging. The wandering camera sometimes made things *a little* difficult to see what was going on, but the beautiful scenery more than made up for it! The story is relatively simple, but I think that's fine as it made the experience a lot more approachable overall. I am interested to see what the developers have in mind, given the ending, should this turn out to be successful enough for a sequel however...
A platformer with a bit of a new take on puzzles, the actual puzzles in this game are not head scratchers, they are quite simple at looking at and completing (Most of them are literally put the square in the square hole) Its a very colorful game, with a nice Frame-jitter art style that works well for it, The character and colors really Pop when you transform into the other animals, even if the battleing does get a bit same-same, as most all enemies can die the same way or with the same attack (Except for the Main heros wep) The game is Solid and straight forward, every level has small goals that some (Don't get hit) can be a bit painful with some cheap shots, but otherwise the game has goals you can achive if you take it slowly... or not slow with the speed run medals.
This game has a lot going for it think some of the positives is the story is engaging. The platforming is a lot of fun and enjoyable the different forms you take is great. Some Negatives I would say is the story at times being told through just images which can just diminish the quality of the game and I would say a variation of enemy types would be good. Think this is well made and well worth a try.
There is no other way to say this but this was a bad game. Poorly designed game. A miserable gaming experience. Which is unfortunate because I really wanted to like this game. I was excited to play it at first then the more i played the more apparent it became this was a terribly designed. Awful platforming, questionable level design, a fixed camera that made me want to pull my hair out, and combat that was so atrocious combat that was NOT needed or warranted. The list of complaints and nick picks goes on. I'm sorry but this was a pain to play and by the end i didn't want play anymore I didn't care about it at all. The only redeeming aspect left is the transformation system which feels like it the part of the game that was well made. The fluid swapping between the different animal forms and the variety of uses of those forms throughout the game was good but sometimes I questioned the need or point of the humanoid form. I don't know. I don't care anymore.
Beautiful art. Interesting game.
