About
Hirogami is a 3D action platformer inspired by the ancient Japanese art of origami (paper folding). Everything you encounter has been crafted to convey the physical, often fragile, natural world of paper, amidst a story interwoven with threads of wistful intrigue.

Discover new forms to traverse the world, solve puzzles, and best your foes. Roll through obstacles and enemies alike as a hardy Armadillo, traverse the treetops and pound pests as a mighty Ape, and leap to previously unreachable heights as a formidable Frog.

A powerful force of digital creatures - the Blight - is invading the world, defiling the delicate natural balance that has held sway for an age. As Hiro, an enigmatic performer (and master of the art of folding) from Shishiki village, it falls to you to cleanse the mind-warped inhabitants of this world, and to bring peace back to the land.

Explore every nook and cranny and discover all the world’s hidden secrets. Unfold into a sheet of paper to ride fiery updrafts, or to slide under deadly traps. Or become a paper plane to traverse dangerous chasms.

This origami world is a fragile place, and you’ll need your wits about you to protect it. Wield Hiro’s paper fan to blow away the Blight, or pound, pummel, or poison them using your litany of papery powers.

Bask in a soundscape composed using traditional Japanese instruments and styles - specially crafted to evoke the variety of themes, characters and settings of Hirogami.

Worth checking out - takes a little bit of time to get used toe the camera - sometimes you character falls behind things and the camera swing doesn't always help. But overall worth adding to your collection if you are after something to play on steam deck.
Now that I basically beat the game (except the last level since there is unfortunately arbitrary amount of completed missions needed to even unlock that level :(). I don't think the game needed the missions, this game feels it shouldve be about exploring and using different abilities, not about precise timed platforming and usage of the abilities. The moment I saw I needed to complete a stage within a certain minutes it scared me what's to come. Sure now that I got almost all abilities I can do the earlier levels faster and not take as much damage (those 2 missions were mostly the ones I miss), but it feels like artificial needing to replay them instead of wanting to replay them with my new abilities and find new secrets+shortcuts. It even is sometimes hard to see some parts of the levels because of the camera, like trying to explore where I saw some blocks from an angle, but then the camera moves and I take damage to something I couldnt even see.. To be honest just going through the levels and finishing them without worrying about the missions was very fun, half way the game I felt a difficulty curve and definitely the end game was more tricky, but it was still enjoyable using the new abilities and knowing which ones to use. I enjoyed the artstyle and concept (both why I bought it) and the story was interesting (unfortunately don't know the ending YET?), and as someone who likes platforming I enjoyed that too. I've glitched a couple times through the map and sometimes the time to change your character was very short if a platform would fall within a second or if you're stuck under/next to a box then you can't change character until you get unstuck. Overall I wouldve waited for a sale, but if it ever will fix some of the things it would be worth it. I'm still recommending it if you don't care about having to redo some levels in order to finish the story/game or dont mind missing out on that and just like to redo them for more secrets/shortcuts!
Imagine um jogo com várias fases estilo Crash Bandicoot, mas com origami, onde você pode se transformar e salvar seu lar, eu amei esse jogo e você também irá amar, lindo demais!
Early review, but the first few levels have made good usage of the various folding techniques and animal forms to add depth to the platforming experience. With each new form unlocked, both the navigation and combat gain more depth, and add more challenge when it comes to completing the extra objectives each level for additional rewards. At the beginning, the story seems to be fairly straightforward, but the main character hints at more depth to their backstory than being a generic hero. Art-wise, I really like the designs and how well the animation seems to imitate stop motion really adds to the atmosphere, and also allows the changing between forms to happen more smoothly than I initially expected. All-in-all, I look forward to what will come next, and can recommend this if the trailer seems interesting to you.
Great game! Beautiful graphics, fun gameplay...takes me back to the PS2 era when platformers were magical things... There are some issues with depth perception, and a feeling of disconnected combat, but the game more than makes up for that in other ways. 5 stars!
i like it, it remind of paper mario because of the transformation and the the game style
great soundtrack beautiful art animation is amazing sometimes gets a bit fast paced because you need to change forms and then I panic but it's all good. i generally suck at platformers but I enjoy this one it has save points so it's more forgiving than most
This game is the type of platformer that hearkens back to the platformers popular during the 6th generation, while also feeling reminiscent in some ways of the game Tearaway. While I could see the camera annoying some players, it's really no different from games like Crash Bandicoot which are beloved so it makes me question the critics' motivation for the low scores. The combat is relatively derivative and not particular deep as well but the focus is on the pathfinding and platforming, not combat. The graphics are stunning and again remind me of Tearaway as well as Okami. The sound is nice and gives a peaceful zen feeling. This game is worth it if you enjoy platformers.
High level of quality and polish, with a focused and clear scope. Simple, challenging, fresh, and (most importantly) fun. I'll update after I've finished a playthrough. Update: Finished it (not 100%). Gameplay is reminiscent of older 3D platformers, and it's executed really well; there's some jank (ambiguous positioning, awkward camera angles, etc.), but this adds to some of the charm, or at least doesn't get in the way too much, though a few things were slightly tedious or took some figuring out.
Final boss drags on a bit, but it's not super annoying.
It doesn't really break new ground in the genre, but I almost feel like that's not a bad thing: this game knows what it is, and doesn't try to be anything more. Story is good, but nothing to write home about. Fairly predictable/cliche, but again, I feel like it's part of the game's charm; retro-inspired, knows what it is, and isn't trying to be more than that. Characters are fun, and dialogue doesn't overstay its welcome. Music is awesome; I wish they'd let me buy the soundtrack instead of making tracks an in-game collectible. The visuals are also great, and probably the main thing that makes the game truly unique; the stop-motion style used for the paper characters, and the origami world, is beautiful. Overall a fun 3D platformer; refreshingly concise and modest in a landscape where it feels like everyone is trying to be the next big thing.
