Good game, really funny and entertaining. The only major problem is that it's plagued with bugs. You often have to reload from the last checkpoint multiple times, but the worst issue is getting stuck inside sofas or other 3D models. If there are no NPCs around to kill you, you’re forced to reload again… and you’ll probably get trapped in the exact same spot. The only solution the game gives you is to start a new game. I managed to finish it, but my save file is now ruined and I can’t go back
Fun, wacky and with a surprisingly good story. It's a refreshing change of pace with a mixture of humour and serious themes. It's chock full of dialogue so I highly recommend using subtitles so you don't miss anything and take your time. The combat evolves as you gain more abilities and weapons and quickly changes from basic to very engaging. There are many different ways to tackle encounters but you'll need to master each of your Gatlian pals to succeed. There's lots to explore and collect, plenty of secrets to find and the boss fights are really awesome. The DLC is another fun adventure with more to do and see as well as new mechanics to play with. The story follows on 2 years after, bridging the gap between HoL1 and HoL2. If you're planning on playing the sequel it may be good to try it first or watch a playthrough.
guys i promise i didn't go to an alien strip club for 15 hours

amazzing game great for rick and morty lovers.

Ignoring all the drama about Justin Roiland, if you enjoy Rick and Morty's irreverence and stuttering humor versus wanting a hardcore shooter to sink your teeth into, you'll probably like High On Life. Your weapons are sentient and will talk to you throughout the game, ultimately becoming a central plot point. The first one you find is a decent point and shoot pistol that lobs goo grenades, and it's the weapon of choice for pinpoint shooting throughout the game. You'll also get a shotgun with suction and a bouncing razor disk you can keep bouncing with your knife, a submachine gun that shoots exploding crystals with a time warp effect, a living grenade launcher (shoots babies that eat things) and a mind control alt, and an ultimate weapon for the last mission. Each weapon is distinct in use and personality - I tended to prefer Gus, the shotgun, but late game the pistol (voiced by Roiland, basically Morty as a gun) becomes more useful for stuff that stays at range. If this was all it offered, it would be pretty lame. However, you do get a ground sprint thing not dissimilar from Vanquish, which later upgrades to a full jetpack as well. Knifey does grappling stuff, too, so you'll swing around a bit. It's best looked at as an adventure game with action segments. The actual combat isn't too interesting. Mostly you shoot guys until they die; shoot yellow-covered guys enough and you'll remove that armor, letting you do an execution with Knifey, but focusing on headshots does a fast job anyway. You have a radar to know where guys are, and there's a mix of the ranged combat guys and melee brutes. The platforming is a major focus here, with lots of puzzles based on the special fire modes of your weapons. You'll also have collectibles to grab, which can extend the game if you want those; like a metroidvania, you can't get them on your first pass, but the stuff inside the hidden chests are usually just a little money. Every so often you'll find an upgrade for your guns, but it's minor. Just playing through normally will give you the cash to buy most everything in the pawn shop, which is definitely enough to beat the game. The story, and interacting with the characters, is where most of the game lives. You can't skip conversation sequences at all, but they're not terrible. There are some definite glitchy bits to the game, such as the last boss having a couple things where he completely disappears during a cutscene sequence; if you run across what appears to be a soft lock, reset the checkpoint and you'll probably be fine. There's another glitch going into the final level where you get asked if you're ready to fight the big boss, but if you're fussing with the Bounty 5K machine it'll not let you select an option; hit escape and escape again to reset the question and you'll be able to pick it this time. Weird stuff. Anyway, for my money, this is a 10 dollar game. I would be annoyed to pay full price for it, but I also hate Halo and the pacing of most modern design shooters; your mileage may vary.
8/10 What a silly and chill game. It's like DOOM without the edge and I really enjoyed myself! I'd say one of the main negatives is there are some really egregious bugs that require you to restart checkpoints. While they aren't "horrifically terrible" it definitely dampened my mood significantly as sometimes shots wouldn't register or randomly you'd get trapped in the floor after doing 3 quarters of the mission. I personally really appreciated the 90s references, especially the FOUR FULL LENGTH MOVIES (Demon Winds, Tammy and the T-Rex, Blood Harvest and Vampire H0okers) that are in the game. I sat for so long just watching the things on the tv too, a lot of it seemed like improv comedy between the guys involved. I really enjoyed how each gun had their own personality and design feature as it made them so much more fun to interact with. For a DOOM style game, it seems very strange to do this, yet it worked so well. Get this game if you just wanna chill and play something to kill time :)
