Heroes of Umbra is a 2D side-scrolling action RPG developed and published by Alcuria Games that blends classic platforming sensibilities with modern role-playing progression systems. Set on the mysterious island of Archaleon, the game places players in the role of an amnesiac hero who must piece together fragments of their identity while confronting a looming magical threat. Though the premise follows familiar fantasy tropes—lost memories, dark forces, and hidden power—the experience focuses less on narrative complexity and more on combat rhythm, character customization, and cooperative exploration. Gameplay unfolds across side-scrolling stages that combine platforming traversal with hack-and-slash combat. Movement feels responsive, allowing players to jump, dodge, and chain attacks in fluid succession. Enemies populate each area in varied formations, encouraging players to adapt rather than simply button-mash through encounters. Combat emphasizes timing and positioning, particularly when facing tougher foes or bosses that demand pattern recognition and careful resource management. The balance between agility and aggression gives the game a steady momentum that keeps encounters engaging without becoming overwhelming. Character progression is one of the game’s stronger features. Multiple skill trees allow players to tailor their build toward specific playstyles, whether focusing on melee strength, magical abilities, or balanced versatility. As equipment drops from defeated enemies, players can further refine their approach by optimizing gear combinations. This layered customization system creates meaningful decision-making, particularly in later stages where enemy difficulty increases. While the RPG mechanics are not as intricate as larger-scale action RPGs, they provide enough depth to reward experimentation and strategic planning. Cooperative play adds another dimension to the experience. The game supports multiplayer sessions, allowing friends to team up and tackle dungeons together. Enemy scaling adjusts to accommodate multiple players, ensuring that combat remains challenging rather than trivialized. Cooperative runs often feel more dynamic, as players can coordinate abilities and divide responsibilities during encounters. However, as with many indie multiplayer titles, the player base may be modest, meaning cooperative experiences are most reliable when organized with friends. Visually, Heroes of Umbra embraces a retro pixel art style reminiscent of 16-bit era action games. Environments range from verdant outdoor landscapes to shadowy dungeon interiors, each rendered with clean, readable sprites that prioritize clarity during combat. The art direction favors functionality over spectacle, but it succeeds in capturing a nostalgic charm. Sound design complements the visuals with fitting background music and straightforward combat effects that reinforce the classic arcade-inspired tone. Narratively, the game maintains a straightforward structure. Story beats serve primarily as connective tissue between gameplay segments, providing motivation without dominating the experience. Dialogue sequences and plot developments exist, but the primary focus remains on exploration and combat progression. Players who prioritize narrative depth may find the storyline simple, yet it functions adequately within the broader design framework. While the game offers satisfying mechanics and cooperative appeal, it also reflects its indie scale. The campaign length is moderate rather than expansive, and certain areas may feel repetitive as enemy types recur. Nonetheless, the combination of accessible controls, flexible builds, and nostalgic presentation creates a cohesive package that feels intentional rather than unfinished. Ultimately, Heroes of Umbra succeeds as a compact action RPG that merges platforming agility with skill-based progression. Its retro aesthetic, customizable character builds, and cooperative option provide a well-rounded experience for players seeking a focused side-scrolling adventure. Though it does not attempt to redefine the genre, it delivers a consistent and enjoyable journey that captures the spirit of classic action RPGs while offering enough modern design elements to keep gameplay engaging. Es muy bonito :) Recomendado cooperativo con un amigo.
good and nice game
Reliving my maplestory days. T_T It is so Nostalgic!
マルチプレイでクリア。 色々なビルドができて楽しい・・・はずだった。 マルチプレイがとにかく不安定すぎて苦行でしかなかった。 もう二度と起動することはないだろう。
A simple, short and sweet metroidvania game with lots of collectables, a stat system and a new game plus system enabling much replayability. Just a shame there's only 4 stages as it left me wanting more. Control wise it feels great aside from the jumping. You cannot change direction when jumping which can get really fustrating when attacking in the air. The bosses are extemely simplistic and the animations on them look rather stiff but those are the only complaints i have. If you can pick it up for cheap i highly recommend doing so.

The dev and discord server are responsive, but there are too many bugs that break game items and halt progress. Losing your entire item vault for unknown reasons in an item stat roll game feels quite frankly, frustrating. Items where upgrade slots disappear and become disabled for no reason? :/ Decent to fool around a couple of hours as the game is charming. Just don't randomly lose progress.
I enjoy it. Theres a lot of custimization for a unique playstale.
RPG adorável, joguei com um amigo e foi uma ótima experiência recomendo sim senhor
