The main takeaway here is this: if you're into co-op games, you'll probably like this. If you're coming from HELLDIVERS 2, you may or may not like this, but I'd say give it a shot. If you want to buy this game, wait until it's on sale and go for the deluxe edition - the DLC *is* that important. My friend group has a lot of newgen helldivers in it, and we decided to try out the first game a little while ago. At first it was a fun novelty, then it became yet another game collecting dust in my library. I decided to dig it back out a few weeks ago and I've been having an absolute blast with it. A fair word of warning: this game plays nothing like the second. If you're a HELLDIVERS 2 player coming back to the first game, throw out everything you know (except for a few stratagem codes) - it's a whole new experience! HELLDIVERS is a twin-stick co-op shooter based around the Helldivers. (Shocking, right?) You're fighting against the bugs, the cyborgs and the illuminate. Each faction has their own tactics and you'll have to adapt to each; the bugs use swarm stactics, the cyborgs use heavy armor and the illuminate use shields. The goal is to, as a community, push to the homeworld of all 3 factions and conquer them, knocking them out of the war. If all 3 enemy factions fall, the war ends in a success. If an enemy faction reaches Super Earth and the community fails to defend it, the war is lost. Once a war ends, regardless of *how* it ends, a new one will begin shortly after. This continues forever, meaning there is *technically* unlimited content, even if it is a bit repetitive once you unlock everything. When I say "as a community" I mean it - even though there isn't crossplay between PC and Playstation (3, 4 and Vita), both platforms contribute to the same war. The emphasis on co-op is far stronger in this game. You *can* solo everything. In fact, it may be easier to do so on lower difficulties or while farming for research. This game was designed for multiple players, though. The game features a top-down view shared between all players, meaning the entire squad is forced to stick together. While this isn't an issue most of the time, it is very inconvenient if you die and lose your gear, or if you're someone who likes to collect everything in a mission before moving on. Once you get used to moving as one cohesive unit (and stop shooting your teammates in the back every 30 seconds), you start to feel a lot more powerful. Yes, this game has paid DLC. The deluxe edition (containing the base game and all DLCs) costs $40 by default and contains quite a bit of extra content, some of which are necessities in certain missions. (All-Terrain Boots my beloved) - The game goes on 80% sales quite often, during which the deluxe edition is only $8. If you're looking to buy this game, *absolutely* wait for a sale - you'll get more than your money's worth.

Proud veteran of the First Galactic War
They basically ended support for this game by ending the storyline. Kinda ♥♥♥♥♥♥ since I paid money for basically a couple of runs and a cutscene. Steam needs to take this off the store or AH needs to allow replayability. It's a different game from HD2 and should be reinstated as it were.
