I've had a blast playing this with my friends. I backed the kickstarter so I'm excited this is out. Currently there's a good amount of released missions for a few hours of gameplay, but since it's possible to highly customize your ship it's still very fun replaying those same missions, usually with a different crowd. Since you can play the multiplayer locally and the game is very easy to get in to it works well as a party game. In early access there are still a few bugs, but for the most part the game is bug free. The developer is very active within the community and is good at listening to feedback. Really excited to see what's to come.
I like the idea of this game, but it's currently unplayable as 2 players. The second player while able to move the character, can't do anything when enters any room, not very clear why. Being forced to play with the AI, which seems to do most of the work, is quite annoying. The ship layout is not preserved, as an early access is acceptable but also very annoying. My suggest is wait more (a lot more, probably). I'll test again this game in a few months to report on improvements and (hopefully) change my review. Oh, the UI as well as the gameplay elements are incredibly small when played from a couch!!
What I wanted: Multiplayer FTL What I got: Running on Space Hamsterwheels
Wished I like the game, but it is really not what it should be. Playing less than 4 means an AI that you cannot order around mess with things. Also, in most level, need to have one player just using the anti hazard room (cold, poison, etc). The guns are really not responsive... FTL and LOVERS were much more fun for multiplayer and you had control over guns. Ennemies keep getting farther than you can see, there is really not much levels and ennemies are very similars. Unless you get this game for a really low price, don't bother. They would need to do MAJOR changes for this game to be worth 10$.
UNDERCREWED thrusts you into a universe of ship management and objective driven gameplay. The AI is forgiving enough for you to learn how to work with your team at the start but progressively gets more difficult, forcing you to work as a team and understand how each room effects the outcome. When playing this fame alone the crew AI does well managing the rooms that are most important as you rush around to destroy enemies and manage the other departments. I would suggest getting this game and giving it a try. It is definitely worth the time with 3 other friends and provides a great night of entertainment!
I tried it for a bit, but after the first mission I was pretty disappointed... is it really just "mission after mission"`? and the mission was very short and hectic... I know, maybe I should try the multiplayer... and maybe I didnt understand what this game is in the first place. I had it on my wishlist for quite a long time, and I thought this would be some kind of FTL multiplayer... but it doesnt seem to be that... I might try it again in a while, but so far I cannot recommend it since it is not what I expected.
It may be early access but what they have achieved as a two man team (1 developer and 1 artist) is impressive indeed! I love the simple controls of just running about the ship and the ability to customise. Being able to play with people locally and online at the same time is a great thing to have, I can never get all my friends in one place at the same time! I think the game does have something for everyone if you want to take it seriously as a campaign with your group or just fancy a bit of couch coop party gaming. You can barely buy lunch these days for £8 so is well worth the money for the entertainment you get. Can't wait to see what comes next!
Very polished and fun for an early access title with great potential to become an exceptional game.
First, this is not FTL with multiplayer. Now to the game, with a group it is pretty fun( a good party game), solo play however is too monotonous for me. That said the game is intended for play with others and it does well, simple controls allow you to pick up the game quickly and a good amount of ship customization gives enough replay for this type of game. I would like to see a few more levels though, maybe even a scenario editor. There are few if any bugs, even over internet.
