Hell Survivors - A Hollow Imitation of Greater Games 💀 Rating: ★☆☆☆☆ Hell Survivors, despite its early access label, leaves much to be desired, and I struggle to recommend it in its current state. Sadly, it pales in comparison to similar titles, particularly the excellent Halls of Torment, which offers everything Hell Survivors seems to be striving for but falls short of achieving. 🕳️ Lack of Content (1/5): For an early access game, I expected Hell Survivors to have a foundation of engaging gameplay to build upon, but there’s shockingly little to do here. The gameplay feels sparse, with a lack of depth, progression, and meaningful content. Rather than setting the stage for future updates, it feels incomplete and repetitive, leaving players with very little incentive to keep playing. ⚔️ A Poor Imitation of Better Games (1/5): Hell Survivors resembles Halls of Torment in many ways, but unfortunately, it fails to capture what makes Halls of Torment great. The lack of originality is glaring, and every mechanic feels like an inferior attempt to replicate what has already been done – and done much better – elsewhere. Rather than building on established ideas, Hell Survivors seems content to copy without innovation. 💸 Early Access Concerns (1/5): While many early access games promise new content and improvements over time, Hell Survivors doesn’t inspire much hope. The game feels directionless, and without a clear vision or engaging gameplay loop, it’s hard to see it evolving into something worth the investment. 👥 Audience Warning: If you’re considering Hell Survivors because you enjoy games like Halls of Torment, I would advise caution. At its current stage, it lacks the substance and polish of its peers, and you’re likely to find it lacking in the very aspects that make other games in the genre enjoyable. In conclusion, Hell Survivors is an early access title that currently doesn’t meet even the minimum expectations of the genre. With no unique appeal, shallow content, and no clear path to improvement, it’s difficult to recommend. If you're looking for a solid, enjoyable experience, I’d suggest sticking with Halls of Torment – a game that already delivers everything Hell Survivors seems to be reaching for.

feels like a bare demo. 80% is still missing.
Looks promising, but no content. Played it alot expecting something at the end, but nothing gained. Game also crashed and deleted all my progress (unlocked everything).
Can't recommend just yet. Game desperately needs a magnet mechanic of some sort. New crash prevention is helping. Will be interesting to see what comes out after early access.
Game still has no passive skill tree after all this long. Probably dead since the last update was december. Game doesn't do anything new and is still a slog. Wait until they add a passive tree. Same as other reviews, only thing new thing is characters. Sure their passives do *something* but weapons are very underwhelming. Right now it's banging your head against a wall in the promise the future will give you something.
I mean, I like it. Worth closer to $3.99 at its current state. As other said, play the demo.
I've refunded it and will wait until the game is more feature complete. Play the demo and you've played this early release version. The only thing I see different is there's more characters to unlock in the early release version. It's still a very bland, basic game. There's a much better options out there on the market for a similar price.. or much cheaper. I have a number of gripes with this game, despite enjoying it at a very basic level. The mutations are still unavailable. I can only assume this is some kind of character passive tree which would increase your power/survivability chance. A huge part of these games is feeling your characters power increase so.. there isn't that. The gamepad implementation is only for the character. The menu's require you to move a cursor around with the thumb stick on the screen to select buttons. This is slow and cumbersome. The UI isn't great, to be honest. The dash timer needs to be in the centre of the screen, or attached to the character somewhere so you can see it. Timing is crucial in these games. The dash timer is not only a grey/white bar, it's in the bottom left of the screen within another grey bar surrounded by more grey. Come on, really? There's plenty of these games around to get ideas from. The health globe is a tiny red circle in the lower left corner. It's useless down there. The action is in the middle of the screen. I shouldn't have to look away from my character to get that basic information. Again, multiple games on the market that do it much better. Get some ideas from them. There's 2 XP bars. One really long XP bar down the bottom, then it's doubled up as a globe in the right hand corner. The XP bar is one of the least important UI elements, but we have it represented twice for some odd reason. There's doesn't seem to be any health pickups from what I played. I played the demo last night and didn't find any. I bought the game today, I didn't find any. You need to have *something* somewhere. Other games have crates or pots to break that drop health potions, chickens, carrots etc. There is the generic "health regen" ability option sometimes when you level up and when you kill the first mini boss, you can choose a health potion.. but that's it. Speaking of health, there's these explodey enemies which conveniently blend in with all the other mobs and deal huge amounts of damage. Like, 130hp+ type damage. I chose +5 armour for my character 3 times and they were damaging me for 130+ hp still. Damage is either not tuned, or +armour doesn't work very well. Did I mention they just blend in? Art style is nice enough. Has a cel-shaded feel to it but also has that dark gothic theme. Reminded me a bit of Diablo 2. Performance was fine for me but honestly, there doesn't appear to be much in this game to slow it down.
Many of what others said, the lack of content, was truthful and it does kinda butcher the entire launch experience. However the developer did make it clear upon request that there were unforseen bugs and steam wouldn't allow a postpone date for the launch. Personally I forgive this, no problem. Id say my biggest piece of feedback currently is that as far as guns go it seems the ones locked behind in game currency just overall perform worse than the one you're given baseline , same could maybe be said for some of the other characters too. As well as that, I find alot of the skill choices to be pretty mediocre and as for things like the "summon" skills. Just pure doo doo to run with. Overall big potential and I don't regret giving this developer any money
