Hei is a simple creature living alone in the grass. Suddenly, by using various objects, he finds a purpose of his own. Help him explore and discover the path to the sacred tree. A point & click adventure game with a unique drawing style. Feels like an Ed, Edd and Eddie cartoon, but with a deeper meaning like in Rusty Lake series or, better yet, like in Knock-Knock. I just started playing and so far I am intrigued.

Great indie game!! Sooner or later this man is gonna rock it with an Undertale kind of game!
TLDR: A short but sometimes frustrating point and click adventure in a hand drawn surreal and whimsical world. General Thoughts/Overview: Hei is a point and click adventure set in a whimsical and charming hand drawn aesthetic world. We are Hei, a silent protagonist lost amongst a strange yet familiar world. We seem to be trying to get home, though honestly it’s a bit surreal. It’s possible it’s a metaphor and I just didn’t get it. But I enjoyed the journey, for the most part, regardless. Pros:

A lovingly crafted passion project. This felt like a one man band job, covering all aspects of the game themselves for better and worse. As such it has the little oddities and the strong degree of character such a project produces.
The inclusion of a few optional puzzles with little cosmetic rewards was a nice touch to keep parts of the game fresh, but also leave the player guessing which paths were critical. It made the world feel a bit bigger.
Given the short length of the game, Hei feels absolutely jam packed with characters, puzzles, items, places to explore and things to do. While there is some back and forth, in some cases enforced, it doesn’t feel like it’s in an empty world.
Cons:

While charming at first, the sound effects and ‘music’ get very annoying after a while. While you can mute them, sitting in silence is worse.
Some of the puzzles are broken, and many are either moon logic or using every item you have on every hotspot you’ve found until progression occurs. While this is a standard issue in point and click adventures, it is especially prominent here.
The controls are shot, with Hei getting stuck, vibrating violently, and having the general pathing skills of a one wheeled Roomba.
Suggested improvements:

A Daedalic style ‘skip’ button for the mini games, because my lord did they almost drive me to rage quit… I know this would significantly shorten the game, but man… They aren’t fun.
I feel like either the path buttons should always be visible (and you have a double click to move) or they shouldn’t appear and you auto transition. I found walking up to the border and then needing to click the arrow a needless extra click, and mildly frustrating.
Colour-blind support. There are a few puzzles which rely entirely on colour, a mode to give some other hints would be kind.
Hei needs a bit of love surrounding pathing and item collection. Getting about was not smooth, and collection of objects was not always as easy as walking up to and clicking on it.
Overall Recommendation: Hei is a delightful little passion project you’ll feel smart for beating. It is charming and enjoyable for a while, and as long as you’re not prone to smashing your desk in when you get frustrated it’ll entertain you for half an evening and take a full one to 100%. My total play time includes a full run, achievement hunting, and also stopping for an hour to have dinner. The puzzles vary in difficulty from obnoxiously difficult to blatantly obvious, making it hard to give an overall difficulty guide for the game. Hei is not for people looking for fast action shootyshooty or a long and deep game. Hei is for a point and click enjoyer and puzzle fan, with a mix of both elements. This puts it in a vulnerable position as if you dislike either of the downsides of either genre you won’t get along with the entire game. I played the game with my kids, and while the art style and opening level make it seem like that’s ok, the part where I bribed a child and kidnapped them then made them commit robbery, cause mass panic, and eventually sold them to someone, led to some interesting discussions over dinner. Overall Hei is a little rough around the edges, and is priced a little high for its play time, but it is a point and click adventure well worth investigating. It would bring excellent value to a bundle, and is well worth grabbing on sale. My curator page with reviews by genre. I suck at this game and yet I find myself drawn to play it over and over again because of how amazing it is
A short, but very cute puzzle game. Thoroughly enjoyed playing it :)
A short fun puzzler. The first level is, by far, the hardest. If you can get past that, the rest will be no problem.
Cute puzzle game. I am personally not a big fan of puzzle games and am very bad at them but I can see the appeal. This also has a really cool background track with mild beat boxing which makes me giggle. Overall not for me but if youre remotely into puzzle games this is a recommendation from me :)
