Head Over Heels: Deluxe

An excellent update of the classic game from the 1980's. Well worth getting even if you have not played this game before. It is challenging and addictive and this is an excellent update giving modern day PC owners the chance to experience this game. I highly recommend this game.

Head over Heels, my Favorite Game of all time, Thank you bringing it to PC, now I can play it without use of emulator. Just want to know, will there be a walkthrough for it, I am getting lost sometimes where to go.

What a lovely trip down memory lane! I used to play this way back when the ZX Spectrum ruled the playground. This is by far the best version of Head Over Heels you will play to date - vibrant colours, great pixel graphics and lovely music and sound effects.

This properly takes me back to the 80s - the original Spectrum version was an all time classic; this new version captures all the magic and playability of the original and extends it into an even bigger, more polished game. The visuals are lovely, harking back to the 8 and 16 bit eras of gaming. Loved it. This is isometric platforming at its very best. I'm sure Jon and Bernie would be proud.

This is a superb recreation and enhancement of an 8-bit classic. Thankyou for coding such a great version Michael Ware and providing brilliant pixel art graphics Simon Butler. Top notch work! This is my favourite Sinclair Spectrum game of all time, completed many times. It's a work of genius by Jon Ritman and Bernie Drummond back in the day. And this version is a wonderful homage, adding some really enjoyable new touches and options to further enhance the playing experience. I spent a bit of time playing a demo version of this at Crash! Live 2023 on the Spectrum Next. It looked and felt fantastic to play back then, so it's great to see how the finished version is really nicely polished. Plus it's awesome that it's now on a PC platform for those of us who don't own a Spectrum Next. So far I've escaped Castle Blacktooth, linked up in the market, liberated the Safari planet and started explored the brand new Tech Town planet. It plays well and feels really nice. The classic speed mode is faithful to the original, but for the impatient you can play at higher speeds. If you loved this game originally, or if you are new to isometric puzzle games of this style, this game is at the pinnacle of the genre and is beautiful. Highly highly recommended.

This remake is a fantastic "modernisation" of Head Over Heels, staying true to the spirit of the original while making many improvements. With more rooms, a richer colour palette, and smoother, faster gameplay, it breathes new life into one of the best ZX Spectrum isometric games. A must-play for fans of the original and a great introduction for those who missed it the first time around.

My favourite game as a kid in the 80's. Never finished it back then but will definitely do this time round. Someone please remake Hydrofool along with that great soundtrack!

Amazing recreation of a spectacular original. All the new animated wall sprites, the vibrant colours and the lovely plinky plonky music harks back to that wondrous 8-to-16 bit era when games truly were pioneering. I liked the original game. I think I played it on a friend's Amstrad 6128 with crunchy green visuals on a proper monitor. That, and Batman occupied many a saturday afternoon. We didn't however, get very far with it I don't think. It was just too hard for us. Fast forward a few years and another friend had a C64 and an Amiga. We played it a bit on hig Midgy and once again I found it a little too tricky. I always wished there was a "Continue?" option, so I could just carry on... But the game is all about making it all the way through without losing all your lives, and this recreation sticks to that ethos very solidly. What the above paragraph means is that it's now 2026 and I still can't finish the game. I've played it a bit on the Spectrum Next, which looks AMAZING on a proper VGA monitor, but the Steam version is easier to get 10 minutes with since it's the same as my coding machine. The two feel very similar, although I'd say the PC version feels a smidge more responsive. After playing it for a few hours I'd say that it's absolutely a huge improvement on the original in almost every way... The only way I'd improve it is if there was a Multiface button so I could 'save' before a particularly challenging toaster-jump. It's funny to read through the other reviews where people say "Gah, you can't jump over the toasters!".. well, my friend, that's part of the challenge. You have to learn where to hit 'jump'... And don't expect to do any death-defying leaps as 'tails', that's Heads' job. Play to the strengths of each. Their rooms are set up so you can use the two characters' abilities. Rusty Pixels has produced some amazing games so far, and this loving recreation is another feather in their cap.
