I love HOGS so much, but This game was absolutely trash. The story was dry. The mini games were terrible. It had no map or any direction of where I even needed to go. It was just overall the worst HOG I have ever played. NOT worth the $11 for it. You are better off finding a more current HOG that has better graphics, storyline, mechanics, etc.
definitely one of the cooler HOGs i've played! pretty solid atmosphere and gameplay, wasn't too hard or too easy. also the cutscenes looked really cool! i just think the frequency of riddles was a bit exhausting
A nice integration of the Charles Dexter Ward story woven through a decent hidden object puzzle game 7/10
Number 4 in the Haunted Hotel series and this is the first standalone so we get a new location and a new protagonist. As the name suggest this takes the HP Lovecraft story as it's inspiration and does a decent job telling a very contained story of the protagonist trying to find and save her brother. It's not too long taking about 2 and a half hours but I prefer that length for these games. It can be a bit creepy at times and doesn't throw every Lovecraft element at you which is appreciated. The location is a nice creepy mansion to explore. It doesn't feel much like a hotel but they do mention it never had any guests and essentially the resident lived there isolated. I guess it had to be a hotel to fit the series. Hidden Object puzzles seems to have reduced in priority from the initial two titles with them being balanced with simple object use puzzles and some straight up puzzles (sliding blocks, rotating an image). I think it's a nice balance but those looking for lots of hunting the objects may be disappointed. The hidden objects are appropriate to their location and serve the purpose of one of the objects being useful to your quest. The object use puzzles are all fairly straight forward, the game does a good job of keeping the number of areas limited so you don't have loads of locations to try and find where to use an object. The puzzles are pretty good and the instructions give you enough info to never be stumped. For the first time in the series there was no reassemble the photo. I'll forgive this oversight once but I expect it to return for number 5. The hint system is again decent. In hidden object it will highlight the location of one item and in puzzles it will give you the option to skip. In the roaming game it is a little to strong I think, as it just tells you exactly what you need to do and where. I think more of a nudge would be better but it does stop you getting stuck. If you play on advanced the hint is time limited but it always was available when I needed it so I think it is fair. I had no issues running this on windows 11 and no bugs or crashes. Overall it's a nice addition to the series and maintains the standard of the previous game. I played it mostly in one sitting and it kept me interested and wanting to know what happened next. I must admit I do slightly miss the overarching plot of the trilogy and it all tying together but I appreciate that a few stand alones telling interesting stories in varied locations might be a nice break for the series and this was a good start. 7/10
It was fun. Kinda lacking on the graphics, though this is an aged game. I realized part way in that I'd beat this before. It's dark, but that's what you expect from Lovecraft.
Nice creepy atmosphere, I read a couple of books from Lovecraft and to me that is a pre. The looks are a bit old fashioned, and alas, no map, which makes it very difficult to finish it without any hints.
I love the visuals in this game - and really besides the names, and a bare bone resemblence in plot - it doesn't have a whole lot with the actual story written. It's okay though, and I had a great time! And again, super pretty, and the voiceacting was less cringy than the average hidden object game.
Excellent a real old fashioned puzzle game. A map would have been useful but besides that and a couple of crashes a very enjoyable game.
I loved this game it told a story while also having this big puzzle to solve this was a grate game to play
Meh, but exceptionally tedious as there's no instant travel map.
