Gameplay is great. The Story is bad and tiresome and cannot be skipped.
I love this game. I put some time into it and played through the story 2 times and will sometimes hop in just to tear down a ship while listening to podcasts or watching YouTube. This game is very difficult to start but as you progress and start learning what you can and can't do you can almost shut your brain off and just chill while ripping apart massive freighters. I also enjoyed the story and look forward to more in the Hardspace universe. I want more games from this company and I know they are working on more but I am very much looking forward to what they make next.
For the love of god give us a way to skip the story.
horribly awful story with a superiority complex - i am supposed to feel bad for my "coworkers" who ive only known for a week and justify their rude behavior against people im supposed to hate for being corporate entities? its really bad satire of someone trying to critique capitalism without the proper experience to do so. but great mechanics
игра нормальная, но слушать эти нескипаемые диалоги невыносимо
Very relaxing and satisfying. Crack open a cold one, play some tunes, and turn your brain off.
The gameplay is fun for a bit but gets boring. Okay game to play if you just want something chill. There are some annoying mechanics like not being able to skip any of the dialogue. Between missions it basically acts as an unskippable cutscene. But this annoying mechanic is amplified by the fact that all of the characters are annoying and whiny as hell. The dialogue seems like it was written by a sixth grader. It's supposed to depict some dystopian future but just comes across as some cringy communist fantasy.
Old Positive(sorta) Review: The gameplay loop is great, just wish it wasn't interspersed with such a bleeding heart leftoid storyline. It just has to shove its little whiny points in all the time and breaks up the game by forcing you to listen to why modern day earth is bad and blah blah blah. Lemme cut ships. I love a story, but it has to be a good story, yknow? Telling me why I hate playing the game is just blatantly a stupid choice, but if you can get past the unlikable characters who refuse to shut up and the devs who apparently didn't know how to play to their audience, everything about the gameplay itself is superb. Edit: 3 more hours in and I want to shove every character into the furnace. Updated Negative Review: The gameplay loop is good IF you had ramping difficulty that followed the concept laid out at the initial quarter of the game. It starts out as a sort of puzzle game where you're trying to understand how to disassemble a ship without it blowing up in your face. Once you hit Javelin and Gecko class ships, it turns from precise cut points to having to use the fiddly and frustrating splitter beam and being told you lost value just because you played the game as you had to. It's truly great fun to have to cut the same thing two to three times just because the physics decided you didn't hit the part at exactly the right angle to totally sever the parts. Oh, what's that, you want to separate the coolant tank from the wall? Too bad! Cut the 30k credit pipe! Hold on, you can't get it out the door? Oops, time to try to make those cuts to remove the wall. And then you get to listen to Hal! YAY! Great concept, ruined by devs who can't listen to players.
Imagine someone makes you your favorite food, you're excited for it, you get to eating, you take a few bites...and you can taste something off and in fact you start to feel a little sick by doing so. That's about my experience with the game. On the surface, it has a lot of interesting quirks that would make me recommend the game, especially for the loop and what it can give you for hours of time taking things apart as the game shows you. A lot of the positive reviews of this game will touch on it and, for what little you do have to work with ship-wise, you can get a lot of interesting things to 'work' on in the rotation and kill some time by doing so. However, the points of tedium start to show pretty early in the gameplay, where you can literally get to the point where you blow yourself up with one wrong move. Couple that with taking a lot of time, managing resources, and all of the above can put yourself in a frustrating situation really quick. What probably makes it the worst is the story, basically working for Space Amazon. Just about every negative review will touch on it or explain why the game isn't fun with some reference to it and I wholly agree with them. I get the angle they were going for but I'd rather not play a game to feel terrible. The overarching story, at least in the hours I put into it, are bleak, and that's being nice about it. I'm not much of a fan of reading and reacting to something like that when I'm trying to unwind. Put all of the above together and there's not really much reason for me to continue with something like that. If you can get past that, there's probably a game in it for you but it's not for me. Get it on sale, if you must, but keep your expectations in check if you want to give it a go. I think it would've done much better with a focus on more things to do, no story and more of an arcade-y feel than whatever this ended up being.
