[i]Blue Shift[/i] is where things start to wear thin with [i]Half-Life[/i] but this expansion is short enough that you don't get a chance to get sick of it. I really like the opening segment where you get a little more time to experience Black Mesa in a state of normalcy, and also see how little they had their ♥♥♥♥ together leading up to the catastrophe. Overall I think this retains too much of the game's power fantasy, Calhoun is obviously tough enough to make it out of this mess alive but it would be a fun change of pace if you felt even more in over your head, rather than still being able to take on platoons of soldiers in open combat. Still, this strikes a pretty good balance in being a smaller-scale adventure. I'm enamored by the books on aliens and conspiracies that Barney keeps in his locker. Really cute bit of character for a silent protagonist.
