Gunhead is a fast paced strategic roguelike FPS where you take the role of a pirate mech with a gun for a head, looting derelict spaceships filled with monstrous drones made out of bone and steel. Sequel to the 2d roguelite Cryptark.

good
i loved the original but this one stream lines the rouge like aspects to be much more enjoyable. it just feels great to fly around the ships killing robots too
Gameplay is fresh and rewarding enough to overlook the repetitive environments and wonky controls. Each level presents a new and exciting series of challenges from the environment and enemies that keeps you engaged the whole time
Gunhead is a modern roguelike take on Descent. Its fast and fun, but gets quite repetitive as you play randomly generated but functionally identical maps again and again. While the maps get bigger, there still isnt enough progression to make me want to play this long term.
Not as fun as it could have been, it's really just.. kind of mediocre. Not exceptionally bad, not exceptionally good either, and the mech feeling just wasn't really there.
Played just 4 levels so far and already can tell this is a banger The added 3rd dimension isnt just a 3d rerun of the same original Cryptark, but rather the game genuinely uses and takes advantage of the verticality of its maps. None of the bugs or jankiness from the original game either. Just overall a genuine solid improvement and expansion on the already great starting concept of Cryptark. Edit: Played a full campaign, and this still holds. This game feels more dynamic, more immersive, and a higher skill ceiling than the first game.
the game did not exceed my interests expectations. I thought the enemies would be a lot like in 2D, but I liked 2D too much than 3D. There were problems with NPCs that were through walls that the player himself could not get through and could not kill, but the game is good for fans of the space genre 2D 3D
It's a very fun, quick, first person mecha game with a large variety of weapons and an acceptable selection of mechs which pilot very differently. I l really like how I can bang out a level in 6 minutes and feel refreshed during work breaks. The graphics are pleasing and the rogue-lite elements allow for some decent variety in terms of how every mission feels. That said, the space ships you raid are all made up of a random assortment of square boxes and the rooms themselves are contained in these boxes. This worked in Cryptark because everything was 2d and so you just assumed the 3d layout made sense. Here, well, the space ships you raid look really stupid. Is it better than Cryptark? Not by a long shot, but that said it scratches a completely different itch than Cyrptark does. As a result, Gunhead is is more replayable by far. I keep coming back to this game for the "operator" feel it provides you as a mecha game.
