If you want a simple, basically no story turn based RPG (I love them) then for 6 bucks this is definitely worth it. I like that your progress is saved rather well between runs since you keep your equipment, level ups, and items. The progression with Guild Points to say, earn more XP, gold, have more enhancement slots (things like 30% more STR, faster casting time, auto haste, elemental attacks/resistances) are a good addition that adds to the game. I'd say getting to choose your party and enhancements adds a good customization element, although so far I haven't run a party without the priestess and sorceress because they both feel quite important. Don't know if the dev is planning to add more or leave as it but for 6 bucks, it's a chill little JRPG grindy experience. Side note, I hate that the dev has to basically apologize profusely for using AI art. I think it's fine for a solo dev who doesn't have the resources/skills to make character art with AI. But I know how some people get online over that.
Pros - Simple Story and straightforward grind - Fun for a time filler -Has controller support Cons - No mouse controls, poor keyboard controls. - Initial fights can be rough. My first fight my priest got silence immediately so there was no poison removal and my whole party was poisoned. Lost my very first fight badly. - no obvious way to heal in between fights.
I've mostly played traditional turn-based combat games, so the active system took me a second to pick up on, but MAN, once I got the hang of it, this feels like pure, fast-paced JRPG gold! I love the juxtaposition of taking your time before a battle, preparing, and planning, and then diving in and it's like you're in a controlled free-fall! The action comes fast, and you really have to stay on your toes, pay attention to status effects, and take care of your party! As a tip, definitely inspect the enemies before each battle and purchase enhancements accordingly! Loving this game so far, and I'll definitely be sinking many more hours into it! And by the way, it doesn't directly say it supports Steam Deck on the product page, but I booted it up and it ran flawlessly on mine.
This a fun and challenging rpg. From the first battle i was feeling the push. I really had to pay attention to the enemy's weakness and their status immunities before each battle otherwise i was getting wiped. I'm still low level but i'm definitely looking forward to the harder difficulties and getting all the party members unlocked. If you're looking for a great game based on jrpg battles then this game will scratch the itch!
Simple yet fun. It's kind of like if you play the Battle Arena in FF7. Battle then spend the points you earned on unlocks. A bit challenging but I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing. If it was too easy then I don't think it would be as rewarding once you figure out the encounter.
Neat turn based combat, requires a bit of getting used to, but overall has been a very enjoyable experience. Current played through everything but the hardest mode and the pre fight mitigations and strategies are actually starting to matter on a battle by battle basis. Party composition also can vary greatly depending on the fight, but you are given ample tools to meet eh challenges if you use what is given to you. Really scratches the ABT system itch from the mid generation FF titles pretty well.
I am very disappointed . This is not a turn based game! Even setting speed on slow makes this game arcade not strategy . Where is active pause ? Also you can not change name of heroes. If I knew this is arcade game I would never buy it. Once again very disappointed.
Pretty good once you get used to the general flow of the game. Great for someone who wants short stints of JRPG combat and value game mechanics over story. The music is great too.
