This is one of those games where a "maybe" would be the best option, but ultimately, considering the hours of fun to be had, I still recommend it. My biggest gripe is that above "Hard" difficulty (and towards endgame, Hard sits only slightly below the midpoint), the game stops feeling like any real design thought has gone into it. Bosses start teleporting around the map, instantly appearing behind you; telegraphing becomes minimal; screen-wide AoEs are absolutely everywhere; you get chain-CC'd out the wazoo... and on top of all that, a rainbow vomit of visual effects at all times. The absolute kicker, though? It doesn't actually make the bosses that much harder. A hundred times more annoying, maybe, but not genuinely harder. Because on the flip side, you as a player can become so tanky, and near-stun-lock enemies for absolutely ridiculous burst damage phases, that all the interesting mechanics lose any meaning. Everything just dumbs down to "my stats are bigger than the boss's stats, therefore I win." Which is so frustrating, because in the early game, the bosses and encounters are genuinely mechanically interesting. Sounds bad, right? Somewhat. That's why I'd love a "maybe" rating on Steam sometimes. But I'd still recommend the game, because the amount of content you can dive into is frankly absurd for the comparatively low price. Think of it as a combination of Monster Hunter, gacha game, MMO raid bosses, and "numbers go up!" Beyond that, the story is actually quite nice, and there's a lot of variety in the characters you can recruit and play as, giving you plenty to experiment with. Really one of those games where a lot of potential is wasted by difficulty design that mostly just turns everything up to eleven, but the game itself remains solid throughout.
I thought this game was grand but turns out it's just gran

I haven't played seriously outside of battle grounds or bazzar. So the games I'm into compared to when I was a young guy is vastly different. This game changes all that for me. Before I start heaping all the praises to it, the story sucks. Its no bueno. What made me fall in love were the graphics, the battle system, the grinding that is very fun to grind and not just the same thing over and over again. The little different ways you can go about playing stages the objective. The boss battles are larger than life. They have different patterns and ways of playing against them. When you play these fights there is this grandiose sense to them like you're doing something special. There is a lot of different ways to handle these fights. You can pick a gunner and DPS from afar. You can pick a melee class and parry the heck out of their attacks. You can be a mid range going in and out. Or hell you can even do a mix of both and not stop with your attack and using dodge to perfectly dodge the attacks. There is just so many ways to fight the bosses and everything is viable. Everything works. Ya there is optimal set ups but any character you want to play works. Its just so fun. The characters, they are amazing. They are so different and fun. You can find the one that fits your style. You can tweak the designs of them to fit your preference. The VAs in Japanese and English are excellent. Even the basic feeling characters have much more life to them then you would initially think. I can go on, but this is without question the greatest game I have ever played not an RPG that is FF in name. I love the grind, I love the fights, I love the characters. I finally found a game I can play and lose myself for many hours. To all of you that find yourself enthralled in this game. GG
Absolute joke of a mechanic. I failed the quest without using a single critical/revive chance myself. The AI bots just blindly run into attacks, die repeatedly, and drain the party gauge until it's an automatic defeat. You literally get punished and lose your time because of terrible bot programming, even if you play perfectly. Fix the AI or change how the failure state works.
A chill game to play, when you need a time killer. I've completed the main story on hard mode. The game however, becomes far more exciting after the story. In my experience, the combat in this game is fairly balanced and fun for all play types. Choose the character(s) who fit your playstyle, spoil them with resources and have fun!
