Ten remake to solidna robota
My recommendation for Gothic 1 Remake This game is a great remake and tribute that lives up to the original. I remember when I first played it, it was very souls-likeish, very rough and rude, and as a german, also the first game in german that really worked well in german language. They say it could have been influental on games like Skyrim. Anyway, a unique experience, from zero to hero as they say now. But I wouldn't recommend because of nostalgia, but because it is a very good game. Try it out, and support the devs, so we might get a remake of the second part as well.
For the final boss, I used a trainer.
A True Gothic Fan's Opinion After 59 Hours on Hardcore 59 hours. Hardcore difficulty. Nearly every quest completed. Nearly every monster hunted to extinction. I grew up with Gothic, so I was honestly afraid this remake would ruin one of my favorite RPGs. It didn't. It reminded me why I fell in love with the Colony over 20 years ago. The atmosphere is simply unbelievable. Every camp feels alive. Every mine has its own identity. NPCs constantly try to scam you, mock you, or use you for their own benefit, exactly like people trapped inside a brutal prison colony should. The sound design is incredible. More than once I walked through an area I had already cleared, heard something growling in the darkness... and immediately looked around. Sometimes there wasn't even anything there. The game made me afraid of places I already knew were empty. I wasn't exploring the Colony. I was living in it. The world is gorgeous. Shadowbeasts finally look like the apex predators they were always meant to be. Minecrawlers feel like a real species instead of oversized insects. Orcs are amazing, and even being able to learn their language was a fantastic touch. Archery deserves special praise. This is easily the best bow gameplay I've experienced in the Gothic series. By the end of the game I genuinely felt like a master archer. I also loved the new healing system. Food slowly restores health, potions instantly save your life, and sleeping no longer magically heals every wound. It makes survival much more immersive. Combat is fun and has a lot of potential. My biggest complaint is that becoming a Master Swordsman doesn't feel as satisfying as it did in the original. I expected my character to become faster and more fluid, but combat often came down to two attacks, step back, repeat. Blocking also feels less rewarding than simply dodging backwards, and enemies can stagger the player much more often than the player can stagger them. Hardcore difficulty is absolutely brutal. I probably saved before almost every Temple Orc. I died hundreds of times. Some bosses took me over an hour to defeat. But every victory felt earned. People complain about the economy. Honestly... I kind of liked it. It's a prison colony. If merchants weren't trying to rip me off, it wouldn't feel like Gothic. One tiny disappointment though... I escorted a girl across half of the Colony, protected her with my life, made sure she reached safety... and all my Nameless Hero got was a simple "Thank you." Come on, Alkimia... Even Gomez had better luck with the ladies. 😄 No game is perfect... Sword combat could feel faster. Blocking could be more responsive. I still think Kor Kalom's demon form is a little overtuned on Hardcore. But none of that changed one simple fact. For 59 hours I completely forgot about the real world. I wasn't playing a remake. I was back in the Colony. I honestly didn't think that was possible. For me, this is as close to a perfect remake as you can get. A masterpiece worthy of the Gothic name. The best compliment I can give this remake? I finished it on Hardcore... ...and instead of uninstalling it, I'm already starting a second playthrough as a Mage. Very few games make me do that. Now... please give us Gothic II Remake.
Great game I die a lot but that makes it fun. lol
Good game. Recommended!
