the entire game is walking and reading but the movement is laggy and sometimes you have to read bad cursive. and the voiceover sounds sanctimonius.
I played this game more then 10 years ago for the first time and it left me very impressed. Recently when I got my steam deck I went back and played this game again since I was in a mood for a good but short story based game and I saw that they had added achievements. It was nostalgic to return and I knew the story was memorable and interesting, but after 10 years I had forgotten a lot of the details. Gome Home is a story exploration game with some light puzzles. You play as a young girl (20-ish) coming home after a year abroad. You mostly follow your little sisters journey through recordings and try to find out what her life has been like when you were gone and also about your parents situation, worklife and relationship. You snoop around and find a lot of clues and evidence to what has happend and the voice acting is great. The game can come off as a horror title based on the dark rooms and sounds, but it is not actually anything spooky. This game holds up really well with an artstyle that is long-lasting. It's mindblowing that I can now play this game on a handheld device like the steam deck, this used to require a quite beefy PC back in the days. I really had a good relaxing time exploring the house and finding all the clues, now going back for achivement hunting and finding new things about the game I never knew existed. The story is bittersweet and could be a tearjerker for some, at least I think it will have an affect on most people in some way, shape or form, I think this game was pretty groundbreaking back in 2013 and it really is worth playing even to this day even when I look past nostalgia. It's just a short and interesting game that doesn't overstay It's welcome. I would love more games like this.

Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 0.75/day in the week to Aug 3 → 1.29/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.
Gone Home

2-5 hours to complete, Gone Home is a walking simulator where you play as Kaitlin Greenbriar, who after spending a year away for College, finds herself exploring the new house her family moved into in an attempt to figure out where her family is after being unable to contact them. Explore every room and piece together what happened, find out why everyone is missing and what happened while you were away. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3758513542 Overall, Gone Home is a fairly solid walking sim with no monsters or anything chasing you, just a creepy atmosphere that keeps you curious and on your toes from the start of the game to the end. There are plenty of secrets tucked away rewarding you for being nosy and encouraging you to poke around, and when the main game is beaten I’d definitely recommend playing the developer commentary mode right after! It offers some really cool insight to the games development along with fun details and secrets you may have missed during your first playthrough. I didn’t find any bugs but I did find that I liked the game more than I thought I would, and hope the devs makes more games like this in the future, the incredibly subtle music along with the heavy rain and distant rolls of thunder nailed the atmosphere! https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3758513261
If you liked this review and want to read about similar games or just support me on my journey of playing my entire Steam backlog, you can join my curator group, Rune's Reviews! Have a nice day! This game beat The Stanley Parable for goty.
game sucked, the girl left the army to be with a girl, WHAT A WIPED BASTRED . this game really did suck the story is really boring and i thought it was just chill but its just some LGBTQ BS. dont play it
this games story is like you figuring out where your family went after you took a mid day nap lol
I never played this game when it first got big, but it's been on my list of games to check out for a long time, and I finally found myself in the mood for a walking sim yesterday. Wow. I really should have played this sooner. One of the most enjoyable stories in indie games. If, like me, you've never checked it out, stop reading this review and go spend the next couple hours playing through it. Don't read anything else, don't go in with any expectations, just go play. The rest of this review will contain major spoilers. You have been warned. I think my favorite thing about Gone Home is the way it plays with expectations and uses "vibes" as a red herring, only to constantly subvert them. The setup is basically a classic "haunted house in the woods" trope, and the developers want you to come in feeling creeped out and on-edge. The story beautifully teases what appears to be dark mysteries and painful secrets, only to constantly reveal characters who you never see or talk to but who feel like real, authentic people just trying to get through life. So at first you think you might be dealing with a scary supernatural situation, then you start wondering if it's more of a murder mystery kind of set up, and over the course of the game it gradually dawns on you that what you're really experiencing is a heartwarming coming-of-age story about a young woman figuring out who she is and what she wants out of life. Supporting all of this is a well-painted picture of two middle-aged parents each dealing with their own midlife crises and past issues, and trying to figure out how to go on in their marriage as their two daughters reach adulthood. I think, oddly enough, one of my favorite moments in the game is when Samantha's childhood friend, Daniel, who she has described as a "weirdo" and has been built up as though he might be nefarious and have done something to her, instead simply turns out to be... a good friend. This sort of reverse-betrayal is one of my favorite things in fiction these days, when somebody surprisingly turns out to be a much better person than you expected. And it's emblematic of the game's entire clever premise; pull you in by teasing darkness, then reveal light instead. A wonderful, well-crafted game worthy of all its acclaim.
What you see is what you get, great little short story about a troubled family in the 90s. Only reason it sits at mostly positive is because people bought a story game and then got mad that it was story based.
What the hell is this crap!? Why the high reviews and praise for such a boring and barely mediocre game! Also the "Created by veterans of the BioShock series" made me genuinely laugh, dear God!!
sweet story, fun finding all the hidden elements, kinda pricey for under two hours of playtime with no walkthrough, but worth getting on sale. BUT JEEZ FOR BEING A WALKING SIM YOU SURE WALK SLOW!
