I bought GCK initially for the golem creation, but also, in large part, for the witty writng. I am going to continue to play it, after reaching one end, because there still secrets to uncover and I want to get to the bottom of the mystery. It seems simple and feel good at first, until you start asking the wrong questions and get a few slightly disturbing surprises. Also, Qork is both hilarious and adorable, in his weird way. TL;DR Charming graphic, quirky characters and lot of secrets. Heartily recommended.
An underappreciated gem, although it may not be for everyone. Quite surprisingly the story is pretty great and made me kept playing. Game has even multiple endings and surprising twists. The golem building mechanics are fun to some extent, more in principle than in practice, probably due to the short timer (which you can disable). Personally I would have preferred if was off by default or you can double click ingredients instead of drag. The dev has placed a lot of effort into the game and is very active answering questions and fixing bugs. Considering the price, the dev activity and the game itself, it is certainly a worthy buy for any game that wants to try something different.
Great game for such a small pricetag. Gameplay is funny enough to entertain for some hours, not really balanced, but the point is about having fun with it and facing the consequences later if you don't planned ahead. And planning is hard when you really barely know what you're doing, wich is really part of the magic in the first run. Story is well written and was intriguing enough for me to play it three or four times to uncover some of the mysterys. Also, Endless mode seems to be a good enough challenge to have some more fun with the gameplay, so i'll probably come back a little later to put some more hours in this. Fun and original gameplay, good stories, nice pixels, overall a game that deserve some attention.
It's a tsundere Raven! Play it for the Raven not the golems but whatever you do DO NOT anger the mirror. Don't be an idiot like me that misses the other 2 landscapes of resources. Short game which probably isn't what you think it is.
A very well made game by a passionate developer. A handsome nod to the old days of Amiga-games, but without havong to swap disks! =) Adorable characters and graphics, and a compelling story, this game should really get more attention. This game is truly more than what first meets the eye, but I'll keep this review spoiler free and just let you know you are in for a ride!
I didn't realize this was a visual novel, until almost half the game, it has an engaging story, with very little unnecesary dialogs, a fun minigame to keep things in motion, but too many loose and unrevealing secrets for my taste. Still, a great game.
It's a neat little game but ultimately it comes down to what your looking for, it is by no means a bad game, and for the $5 asking price it can probably give you a decent amount of enjoyment, but for me it comes down to, I don't care about the story, I don't care about whats going on, I just want to create golems, But creating golems is basically just a grab, drag, put simulator and it doesn't amount to much if im honest.
This is a great little adventure whose story goes much, much deeper than it first appears. As noted by many other reviews, it's really more of a visual novel with a mini-game aspect to break up the chapters, but what a story it tells! I can't say enough good things about the writing that went into this! The characters are likable, well-rounded, and *interesting*, while the dialogue flows naturally and entertainingly, with always just enough mystery left to pull you onward for 'one more day'. The music serves to set the mood nicely in each different screen, while the art is polished where it needs to be and charmingly retro where it doesn't. The character art in particular really shines. Who knew a pixelated raven and a boy's silhouette could be so expressive! Finally, the developer has been a model of responsiveness in the forums around both bug-fixes and quality-of-life issues, which is always worth appreciative recognition. This game was clearly a labour of love, and deserves a lot more attention than it seems to have received so far. Definite recommend!
I've only played it for a short time now, but it's actually quite a charming fantasy visual novel. Really nice retro artstyle, music and writing. The "golem creation" is actually more of a minigame/framing device, so don't expect too much out of it, but it's still quite silly, where you collect random stuffs from the environment and put them into a cauldron, to scare villagers (and some villagers might have immunities to certain golem, etc). The meat of the game is actually a fantasy VN that's hiding much more than what it is in first glance. I haven't actually played that far, because when I first tried it, there's tons of bugs. But that's also the reason why I put this review now before I actually played that much further. The dev is a really cool guy and he instantly fix any bug I reported. Independently from that, this game is actually charming enough that it deserve a positive review, I know I'm going to put a positive review later from what I've seen so far anyway. I just decided to give it now because how cool the dev is.
