There are already reviews saying how great and polished this game is but I disagree. I've been waiting for this game since it was announced, and I did not expect it to launch in Early Access considering the wait. This game clearly is unfinished. There is no enemy variety, the graphics look the same and take up the same amount of gpu usage no matter what graphics you are on, the battle system feels clunky, and I could go on about the experience I had in 20 MINUTES. No, I'm not going to bash on something that is in early access, but I will say: for those looking for a VR JRPG game I would not pick this up in its current state. I would recommend waiting for it to be out of early access.
I am playing on a Quest 2 via Airlink. I played this in a very early demo a long time ago and forgot all about this game until I fired it up to try it out. I definitely would recommend this game. Here's a run-down of my experience from my first few chapters/hours. It is an action RPG and the story is done in chapters. The first couple chapters were very short but the third had a lot more combat and it was a little more open. I don't know yet how long it is, i've done the first 3 before I encountered a bug that froze the game. Sword Reverie runs very well overall on my setup with an uncommon hiccup every now and then. Only 1 bug so far which caused me to re-start the game. When attacking enemies and you make contact with their skin (not armor) the sword and target goes slow-mo. I actually like this, it helps my sense of contact for me and is very engaging. I think that as far as content goes it doesn't have a whole lot yet but is loaded with potential. I explored between buildings in chapter 3 and found a hidden chest. I love games that reward exploration even if it just a little bit. There are 3 elements and a neutral blade. Each elements special is slightly different and there is a rock-paper-scissors style weakness involved in combat. They have included crafting to create stronger and better looking swords as you level up within the guild hall. At this time there isn't a whole lot of variety on the enemies (so far), hoping to see more in the future. Overall: This isn't a AAA title. This feels like a well thought out beginning to an indie title that I can get excited about. It seems small at the moment but i've had a lot of fun playing it so far. I look forward to seeing how they update it.
This game is completely misleading. If you are looking for a in depth JRPG in VR this is not it. The graphics are sparse and ugly, the combat is is simple and repetitive, based on a 4 elements (3 really, gold is the "non-element"). There are even fewer enemy types. Even in early access this game is a sad shallow pile of lazy programming. I buy a lot of VR games just to support the format with no intention of playing them, I refunded this game out of principle.
They have not updated the game since release. Honestly not worth the time.
Far too unpolished, especially for how long it took for this to come out. Swords are permanently attached to your hands and are comically large. The graphics are low quality, characters move without walking, and it just seems more like a proof of concept than anything else as it sits currently.
Sword Reverie is finally out - but only as early access. Compared to the old trailer, it feels like devs have done nothing to the game the last year - it's greatly unpolished, unoptimized and boring. My rating would be like 4/10 right now - even have to go down to SteamVR res 200% with Index and RTX 3090. And graphics are still poor - or mediocre. This is not a bad game, but devs need to work much harder on the story and variation of opponents.

An tiny indie team releasing this scale of a VR project surely has me amazed. Jumping right into the game, the character voice is surprisingly professional, and the tutorial is designed to be both clear and concise. I also enjoyed the battle system. Different enemies requires using different elements and attacking in different places, a nice approach against repeated battles. The action for range attack is also well designed; it fits the idea of a stronger move and is a natural usage of the VR input. These might all seem basic but many indie VR projects and even some larger games aren't as good as this one in these areas. The game settings menu provides multiple options for locomotion and turning, allowing everyone to optimize for their own setup and playing habit. Especially the snap turning mode made my experience much better since I got motion sickness with smooth turning. Another point is that the triggering of range attack is super accurate, which shouldn't be taken for granted for any VR game. Obviously the developers have done many experiments on these areas to promise us players a smooth experience. Besides all of these, I'm a fan of the art style, music and the weapon crafting system. The art design fits the background setting while giving players a clear view of the objectives, and doesn't require a humongous amount of GPU power (which helps a lot when GPU price is skyrocketing). The soundtrack is another great addition that provides more immersion into the game world. And as a long time fan of JRPGs I like exploring every corner of the map, beating all the enemies and opening all treasure boxes lying behind them. The bonus of stronger weapons just makes this process more enjoyable. A few refinements/additions that I would very like to see in the future updates:

An option for higher walking speed. I'm not a huge fan of teleportation in VR games, and the current speed is a bit slow for map traversing.
More graphics options. I totally understand that a simple graphic toggle is enough and less ambiguous for most players, but let's give the more experienced gamers some space for playing with the graphics such as LOD, texture res, AO and anti-aliasing.
More equipment crafting. What about armors with higher defense against certain element?
Better UI in element switching. The current implementation sometimes gets me switched to unwanted element. A fix is definitely helpful as we're switching elements so frequently.
As we are still in early access, I fully expect this game to grow gradually. We're already at a good starting point, so it could get much more professional in a year or even just a few months. Looking forward to seeing some of my comments get addressed (of course, if they're feasible)!
I was really looking forward to enjoying a JRPG-like story even if the combat wasn't spectacular, but this game seems to focus on slow-paced combat rather than world-building and story. I think a VR JRPG single player experience would be neat, and while this is a cool proof of concept, there's still a lot of work to be done. Truthfully, I am disappointed that the quality of the art and voice actors feel mismatched with the game experience at the moment. I understand this is still an early access game by a very small indie team and I'm looking forward to updates, I sincerely hope the devs are not too discouraged because the VR market needs people who are willing to risk and try new things, it's quite difficult to create games in essentially a brand new platform that has much yet to be explored. :) But unfortunately, in this current state, I recommend just waiting for Zenith if you want a cool VR MMO / open world adventure experience. Devs, do justice for Stella!
Played for about an hour, I do get it is still in Early access, this is my take: The Bad - Many of the enemies are just meat shields - Enemies doesn't seem to have any remarkable skills of their own - Other than the color of the element, enemies don't have much variety - The NPCs that accompany you, seem to do 0 damage to enemies, they don't take damage, they pretty much just play an attacking animation but add nothing to the gameplay - Crafting is pretty bland - The world doesn't look like a kingdom is in danger, if you look at the screenshot, it's all sunshine, even in the town that's supposed to be on siege by elementals - No customization options - Characters models don't look well The Good - You will do some exercise by fling your arms constantly - If you like SAO, probably you will like the loose nod to it At its current state, I cannot recommend this game
