4. This game was not good, it was quite tedious and infuriating. This is coming from a person that just bought this game and never heard of this game before aside from the Steam Page and Marketing. The Positives: The Game has great pixel art and a great soundtrack. The Games you can make can be very varied, I like how you can spread misinformation about your rivals, I like how you can make game consoles, the game is a really good simulation and a good game besides 3 really big issues I had that ruined the entire experience for me. 1. The difficulty is pretty difficult (this is not as big as an issue as the other two), but it's really hard on most maps, to make games without going bankrupt at the beggining, you don't make any money at all until you make your first game or sell your forst engine, so with only 480,000 in my bank I barely kept afloat, for me to stand barely finiancially okay I had to make 4 teams, with 1 making games, 1 almost always practicing their skills and the other 2 just making a bunch of engines that are exactly the same and pushing them as new products, (AKA NSMB). Just to stand left with 127,000 dollars to make new games with, when my bills are 30,000 a month. 2. The Damn Raises hurt this game significantly I had to give my employees raises every 2 months otherwise they would leave because they couldn't pay the rent, and I swear to god it is not fun at all when I have around 40 employees and I have to go talk to every single one of them 4 times a year just so they don't leave me, because I got most of them attribution points I don't wanna let them leave. So it just absolutely stinks thinking that if I do wrong thing wrong they will all leave. I could absolutely not imagine having to do this with hundreds of employees. It is really, really tedious and not fun at all. 3. The save system blows in this game, they have an autosave, which I set to autosave every minute, and you can also manually save at any time, but I hated it because when I had my really good run going I made a really bad advertisement and I wanted to save those 32,000 dollars so I tried going back to my save (A Manual Save not an autosave) and then it just wasn't there, I thought maybe the saves didn't work because I had some ones so I deleted every single one of them and it still didn't show up and so I lost all my progress because the game just decided not to save it, and after that I never want to play this game again. All three of these problems make this game unplayable for me just because of how big and uncermountable they are. Do not buy this game if you actually want to play a simulation game, buy this game if you want to make your employees work at Hell inc. and make games like "Build A Casino Ft, Bigfoot, and make games like Kanye Clicker." By the way at the end of this review I just wanted to specify I know you can auto-approve raises, but in my games my employees almost never asked for a raise, they just expected me to talk to them and hand their money over.
Came back after some run of another game that's top in the genre and remembered this game existed. For someone that tried at 2025, listen the game it's fun and atmospheric with nice pixel graphics. But there are better games in the genre if you haven't tried, with this game still being very nice and bit different. But there are some things on how the teams and offices are handled that just get on my nerves and some more detailed statistics are lacking about the rival companies or your games but this is something that every game in the genre lacks other than this other one ;) The part that i did quit was when i was trying to optimize my teams and really theres no way to tell simply on what building a team member is, and i have to press "Go to" to go to the employee and that closes the menu, so to transfer 10 members i should close and open the menu to many times, or make all the team from the start, you can transfer the whole team to other team and no single individuals simply, i have to first get them out of the team go to the other team that i need them and get them there, do that for multiple teams and multiple people that you can even find where they actually are, you see it gets frustrating. Until i thought to make seperate big teams it was all very fun. Then, why the hell 2 teams cannot work on one project? I seem to dislike the way teams are handled, but still back in the day i have loved this game and spent quite some hours again. But hey, its cheap and still fun and if you haven't tried these game dev games before or want a different take on the genre for sure it's worth it especially at an offer like i got it for less than 2 bucks.

Game Dev Studio is a management simulator that takes a surprisingly grounded and systems-heavy approach to the fantasy of running your own game development company. Rather than presenting a glossy or romanticized version of the industry, it drops you into the role of a small, inexperienced studio owner and asks you to build your legacy step by step—constructing offices, hiring staff, researching features, and fighting for market relevance. Developed and published by Explosive Squat Games, the experience feels like a thoughtful blend of tycoon strategy, software production management, and industry satire. It offers players a wide range of tools and decisions to wrestle with, and it treats every element of studio growth as a meaningful choice that affects the long-term future of your company. Much of the game’s depth comes from how it simulates the day-to-day chaos of real development. Employees aren’t faceless numbers; they each come with their own specialties, traits, interests, and quirks. Assigning the right people to the right tasks becomes an essential layer of strategy, and every new hire influences the character of your team. The engine-building system, one of the game’s standout features, allows you to develop and upgrade your own internal technology, influencing not only project quality but also your studio’s overall competitiveness. As your company grows, you’ll relocate to larger offices, juggle simultaneous projects, and learn that a good engine or a talented team is never enough on its own—you also need smart management, efficient workflows, and a solid understanding of what players want at any given moment. The moment of releasing a game feels rewarding because the systems leading up to it are detailed and interconnected. You choose genres and themes, balance production stages, allocate your team wisely, and hope that your artistic and technical decisions resonate with the market. When a game succeeds, it’s not just a number on a report—it feels like the tangible result of everything you’ve put together: the talent you hired, the tech you researched, the marketing you invested in. When a game flops, however, it’s equally traceable, often forcing you to reflect on employee load, mismatched genres, poor tech, or insufficient polishing. These feedback loops give each project emotional weight, making victories satisfying and failures instructive rather than random. On top of its core simulation, Game Dev Studio includes multiple modes that extend its replayability. The story-driven campaigns offer structured scenarios with specific goals and limitations, encouraging you to adapt to unusual conditions or industry twists. Meanwhile, freeplay mode lets you build a studio without constraints, allowing for experimentation, specialization, or long-term expansion as you see fit. The addition of Steam Workshop support is a notable strength, enabling players to tailor the game’s content or introduce entirely new elements, which helps keep the experience fresh far beyond its initial offerings. Visually, the game adopts a straightforward isometric style that favors clarity and readability over spectacle. Offices are neatly laid out, employee actions are easy to follow, and the overall presentation keeps the focus firmly on planning rather than aesthetics. While not visually ambitious, the design fits the game’s tone: it’s functional, efficient, and dedicated to its simulation-driven structure. The interface is simple enough to grasp after a short learning period, though players new to management sims may initially find the abundance of menus and systems overwhelming. Despite its strengths, Game Dev Studio does carry certain drawbacks. The sheer number of interlocking mechanics can be intimidating, especially when the game doesn’t always explain itself clearly. Some players may struggle to balance projects, manage burnout, or understand why one title succeeds while another underperforms. The game’s realism—employees getting tired, budgets tightening, unexpected failures—can sometimes feel more punishing than fun, particularly during the early hours when your studio is fragile and cash flow is limited. Over time, once you learn the optimal strategies, the game can also become repetitive, with later playthroughs feeling more like a familiar routine than an unpredictable journey. Even so, Game Dev Studio remains one of the most comprehensive and thoughtfully designed indie game development simulators available. It respects the complexity of its subject matter and gives players enough depth to feel truly responsible for their studio’s rise or collapse. It succeeds not because it glamorizes game development, but because it captures the combination of creativity, logistics, and pressure that defines the industry at its core. For fans of management sims, tycoon games, or titles that delve into the inner workings of creative industries, Game Dev Studio offers a rich and engaging experience that rewards strategic thinking and long-term planning.

Conclusion : Un studio à suivre (quand il reparaitra...)

This game is so goood!!
can be tough but really fun later game
