A good port of what in 2021 is in all honesty a terrible port of DoDonPachi DaiOuJou. It's as if Botticelli was resurrected through some sort of cloning technique, and asked to re-do The Birth of Venus but using Microsoft Paint. The result would be fantastic for what it is and reminiscent of the original, but definitely not quite right. I do sort of love it though? I reckon if I down a six pack of Stella and snort a vindaloo, I could probably play this and hallucinate a world where Cave was releasing its back catalogue on Steam at last, and perhaps for a while the world would be a better place.

mom i want daioujou we already have daioujou at home daioujou at home:
This is different enough from the usual versions of DOJ I'd rather consider it an arrange than a port. And as an arrange it's pretty damn good. I got to 50 million (with 55M potential) on Hard and I'm satisfied with it, but I'm curious how far the routes will get pushed now that this game is more accessible. Before going into details, I'd like to point out the script I've made to fix the laser activation bug when laser is pressed while auto is held: https://github.com/inakilbss/DOJDX_Control_Fix The shorter stages lead to lesser value chains, which on most stages makes a full chain comparable to a hyper on the boss. This plus the overall scarcity of hypers leads to most of them being better used on bosses, making the routing straightforward enough to figure out on my own despite having close to zero prior experience with DOJ as a whole. Lives are also worth a whopping 5 million each, making good survival everywhere extremely important for scoring, which I really like. The controls are more sluggish as a whole. Your ship moves way slower than in arcade DOJ and it takes about half a second (arcade DOJ also has a delay, but it's shorter) from pressing the laser button to actually firing the laser. This not only means you have to plan laser activations in advance, but also that switching to shot is a big commitment when trying to chain. Side note, the above is why I always play A-L. I took the approach of always being in laser unless it's necessary to activate a bee and the movement speed while in laser was too slow for me with B- or -S types. EX would be overkill with how little I use shot, too, so L it is.
I like Cave shooters. I like them enough to pay $5 for a non translated version of an arcade game not available in the US. I'd like it better were the ROMs available like the Neo Geo MVS and Sega Genesis games. I like arcade games and spend too much on getting them over and over again.
Only good way to play DOJ.
[Note: I am one of the authors of the English translation patch linked at the bottom.] I was always intimidated by bullet hell games. When you look at the videos of people playing them, it had always looked to me like something that would be too difficult for me. But I have tried this game, and really enjoyed it! It was surprisingly addictive, trying to avoid bullets coming at you, while also trying to land your shots on the enemies. I was even able to pull off some of the smooth moves I had seen players of such games perform — which felt great. I have even managed to play through all the levels at once on Easy difficulty! Normal was too though, but I have beaten it level by level. I have no way to compare it with any other games in this genre, as I have never played any, but as a novice I can certainly recommend it. An English translation is also available now, so that makes it even better! Here: https://github.com/MKCAMK/G-MODE-Archives-translations/tree/main/patches/DoDonPachi%20Dai-Ou-Jou%20DX/English/Steam
Enfim, achei divertido e recomendo DoDonPachi DaiOuJou DX.
I bought this game on sale for $3.99, it was a dollar off. I bought it because it's cheap, it's fairly new (just came out 4 months prior on Steam) and the interface is in Japanese (no English language support) which makes it feel like I bought an imported game and I'm not supposed to play it in my region. Gotta live on the edge! Anyway, it's a mobile phone port, It plays like a Nintendo Gameboy game. Kind of choppy animation, the sound effects are only for the explosions, which sound like popcorn in the microwave. So it's kind of a super-retro game. It's not the fastest, most responsive bullet hell game. Your ship moves kind of slow, so you'll struggle to stay alive. The game ranks pretty low among bullet hell games if you're playing all the good ones like DoDonPachi and all the rest, but still, this is fun for the price! I collect bullet hell games just because I love them so much, and I'm happy I got this. I used Google Translate on my phone to translate the onscreen options, and it does the trick. Though there aren't many options to play with. I'd say have a go at this!
