Genre
Ein Hidden Object Adventure
Story

Follow Main group
 Follow Second group
 Follow third group
The Fog: Trap for Moths (IHOG) Options include separate sliders for Music and SFX, plus choice of Novice or Expert mode. Hints can be turned on/off on the Options menu. I had no technical difficulties. Story: A mother and daughter's outing turns terrifying when a stranger causes their car to crash, and abducts the child from the wreckage. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3632140085 I recommend playing the tutorial on this one, as I skipped it, and missed a couple of important points, such as the story unfolding almost entirely in our journal, and the fact that we're carrying something that we're periodically going to have to interact with. Sights and Sounds: I have my system set to 1920x1080, and while the game in general looks just fine stretched to fit that size, the cutscenes look absolutely atrocious. The ambiance is very creepy, and you'll start seeing quite of bit of blood when you get about half way through. We don't ever see the source, nor any bodies, but if you're sensitive to such things, you might want to skip this title. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3632140130 I had the sound effects turned down, but the music was on point! Deliciously creepy without inducing actual dread. Gameplay: There is a nice balance of adventure gameplay and hidden object scenes, but it's fairy formulaic. Look around, find a lock of some sort, find a key, do a hidden object scene, maybe do a puzzle, and repeat. This does get broken up and less predictable starting in the second act, making the game more engaging as you progress. The hidden object scenes are pretty much junk piles that are slightly interactive. Open a box, merge items to create a whole, that type of thing. Only a couple of the scenes are played a second time. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3633093776 Pros:

No mis-click penalty
Puzzles are skippable
Directional hints do not discharge the hint button
Cons:

The map is confusing to the point of being almost useless. No insta-travel available.
We are given the wrong solution to one non-skippable puzzle. I had to go to Youtube to find a solution.
Most of the story is left unresolved at its conclusion
Verdict: The Fog: Trap for Moths is pretty good. It is not stellar as far as the genre goes, but it was entertaining and becomes more interesting as you progress. The ending was rushed and unsatisfying, and while that left plenty of room for a sequel, no sequel was ever made. Good for about 3.5 hours of creepy vibes.
In a wide field with a lot of competition, this might actually be the worst hidden object game. The plot is nonsense even by HOG standards, and the item placement makes no sense at all. The puzzles are far between and generally bad. Most of the play time is "go to place and use item on thing", which is always bad but here made worse than usual by the lack of fast travel and the irritatingly tight hit boxes on the items. The total nonsense of it all makes it difficult to work out where you're supposed to be going next, which means consulting the map, which is terrible. It's two clicks to open which is a lot given the number of times you need to do it, and it's badly laid out which means a lot of moving around, which you can't do via the map screen. So get used to acquiring a new item, opening the map to work out where you can use it, then going through a bunch of screen transitions to get there, then getting a new item, which might have a use back in the location you started in. It's worst in the first zone where you can be six screen transitions between action points, but it's still bad later. If you can get past the gameplay being the most annoying possible version of itself, the mood and theme are crap too. It's trying very hard to be spooky, with an abandoned house, messed-up dolls, an abandoned hospital etc etc. Unfortunately, a) spook and HOG don't really work together, and b) it's so overdone it doesn't work. Yeah, really can't recommend. I can't really see why it has good reviews. The HOGs which just crash are better than this, because at least you won't feel an urge to finish them.
This game is SO GLITCHY. I'm no stranger to the occasional messy or slightly busted game, but I wasn't expecting it to be this bad. You have a chance to get stuck everytime you open a puzzle, not to mention the the easily-missed objects you have only one chance to grab or you will soft-lock your game. As I suspect the game is not set to be fixed anytime soon, I will be refunding this.
Yay! I finally did it! I beat the game that I had to put down at first because it was too scary... And now, knowing full well that reality is far worse than the gaming world... This game was a breeze. I still liked the game. The creepiness of it. Near the end I got tired though, because it went from a mystery, not knowing what's really going to a
military base.
The spookiness ended near there as well and at that point it just reminded me of that "War Memorabilia" H.O.G. I played, so I zoned out. They also tried with H.O. scenes. You don't really do too much of them. The puzzles... I did all but two. Yay! Which means that they did well in crafting them. The story... I actually forgot wth we were doing there in the first place lol. Only near the end I got a reminder and I was like "Oh yeah..." It was... Okay? Normal for a H.O.G. There are also apparently game breaking bugs... You should read other reviews about it. I had no idea and was one of the lucky ones that didn't get any of them and yet... Game... Hey game... I can SO PRUNE the roses with a MILITARY KNIFE!!!!!!!! Otherwise, it was fine per me.
Saving Our Lost Daughter But What Lies in the Fog?
In the spirit of Spooky Season’s beginning, it’s the right time to start playing games that are more spooky, creepy, or even horror-related. To start, I’ve decided to check out a hidden object game from my library I have never played before (on my own or for YouTube). Time to walk into The Fog completely blind. A mother and her daughter are driving through nature when suddenly, a cloaked figure plants road spikes along the highway, causing them to crash. When she regains consciousness, her child is nowhere to be found, and she starts searching for her. She ends up at an abandoned house in the middle of the woods, surrounded by a mysterious fog. How does the tragedy that struck the family who lived there connect back to the nearby military base and the mist? What truths will she learn as she tries to save her daughter? While this game was spooky in some ways, and I liked that, it wasn’t as creepy as I had hoped it would be. However, that didn’t take away from my enjoyment of the experience. I would say, in general, that game is overly decent but nothing to really write home about. The story felt pretty average, the puzzles and minigames weren’t too complicated, and the graphics were good, like many other HOA games. I have seen other reviews mention a game-breaking helmet bug that happens closer to the end of the game; thankfully, I didn’t encounter it. But, I know for some, a glaring issue like that can take away from the overall playthrough. It’d be great if the developers could patch that issue. Again, while I found The Fog: Trap for Moths enjoyable, I don’t think I would replay it. Like Mountain Crime: Requital, the ending felt very lackluster as it just ends abruptly (sort of). In addition to this, there isn’t any fast travel. Near the end, I found myself just wanting the game to end, even if I found the story and mystery a little compelling. I will still recommend it to people as a game to check out, but it is pretty average/okay.
3 out of 5 ★★★☆☆!
