Without house rules and the benefits of playing the real tabletop version, this game is just miserable to play. Some scenarios are cleverly designed, but a lot of them you just question how you're even supposed to complete with certain classes. A complaint that is exclusive to digital: the art style is really a miss. Gloomhaven digital has the same problem, the art style they chose for this series is baffling, compared to the art style of the original tabletop game. It looks too cartoonish and bright, and a lot of designs look like nothing like their original counterparts. Most notable ones from FH: Drifter - he looks like a pathetic koala man and is not intimidating at all Snowdancer - way too humanoid, looks closer to an Inox than an Algox Geminate - unnecessary redesign to make it look worse Boneshaper - her head is fine, but everything else just looks worse and not intimidating Crashing Tide - what did they do to its face? Clawcrusher - these are supposed to be the largest non-boss Lurkers in the game, yet they somehow just made them smaller than the other ones and made them green(?) Fire Demon - another unnecessary redesign, in fact, I thought the GH digital design looked fine and more faithful I could go on and on about the redesigns, but you get my point. Not touching up on the online related stuff, as plenty of others have already addressed it, and I only play this solo anyway. If possible, stick to playing the board game, either IRL or through tabletop simulator if you want to play it online.
I recommend this to people who really like slow strategic and tactical gameplay. Unlike Baldur's Gate, which is great for more mainstream RPG players, you really need to love and internalize the board game mechanics this game is based on. I've never played the board game, way too expensive and time consuming to set up, but this game is very interesting, challenging , and rewarding both solo and with friends (much better with friends and beer)
I want to like this game a lot, I've put a ton of time into it with my friend. The classes are fun, the digital town organization (while not great due to the UI) is a big help compared to trying to manage it on the tabletop version. However... it's hyper un-optimized, still full of bugs, and the UI is absolutely abysmal. They had such an oppotunity here to improve on the game from Gloomhaven, but it feels like they just copy/pasted nearly everything over and called it a day. I'm hoping to altaer my review in the future closer to the 1.0 launch, but as of not I can't recommend it unless you truly love Gloomhaven/Frosthaven in general.
its a bad design, tbh, lack of intellegence, hinders your mind with the penaly of mobility and limitations of game play. only good part is the art, which can be achived with current cgi of ai.for hex graphics of turn based combat. this is a bad designed game. they are forcing you to play decapped.
game is not like the gloomhaven version. difficulty is way to high
It fun like the real life game
All the problems from Gloomhaven are still there (performance issues, desyncs, and network errors), plus a new one: the UI/UX is terrible. - Tiny icons for sacrificing cards to avoid damage, contrasted with a BIIIIG button to take damage and die. - Poorly highlighted terrain hexes that are incredibly hard to notice. - Confusing ability descriptions. How mechanics actually work in-game is not obvious from the text (the Pyroclast character is a prime example). - The Russian translation is TERRIBLE. The only reason this is even worth buying is because it's a digital implementation of a great board game.
The game is addictive but runs like garbage. Gloomhaven ran so well and still does on my computer but this thing just crashes and freezes far too much to reccomend.
