I don't like to post negative reviews, so I have to explain myself. Instead of just a pass/fail, I rate this a 3/5. It's a pleasant use of an afternoon if you're into this satisfaction genre of games. It needs some work. I came to this game looking for a pleasant grind with the satisfaction of completing a process. This meets that goal very well. The game operates well. The instructions are clear. The graphics are cute and internally consistent throughout. I really like the animation of the trash piles and how, as they shrink, the identifiable bits of trash in them do not vanish but grow closer together as the dirt disappears, and finally those bits drop to the ground when you wash away all the dirt. So the negatives: -The music track in the first level is so short that I turned it off after just a few minutes. I love video game soundtracks, and do not mind listening to looped music, this is just a painfully short loop. I did not turn it back on, so I do not know if it is better on different levels. This is listed first because I consider it the most minor criticism. -The upgrades are priced so that I had to start a second playthrough to unlock them all. -The upgrades are not satisfying enough for the wait you need to get them. -I've unlocked everything except the highest three skills, and those three are still locked and there is no indication of what I need to do to unlock them. First I thought I just needed to unlock one branch to reach that point in the tech tree. Then I thought I needed to unlock every branch of the tech tree. Then I resignedly committed to unlock every branch of all three trees. I've beaten the game, completed every quest, reached at least 100% on each map, and put a hat on every cat. I continued and replayed several locations to get the points to unlock the rest of the skills. I have the Perfectionist Achieve. Still locked and unbuyable. I don't know what else to do. -Refilling the water tank is unnecessarily slow. The task itself is equivalent to pumping your own gas, standing and staring at the gauge slowly filling up. Some of the upgrades help this, but again, they take a lot of points to unlock, and you may be spending points elsewhere with the mistaken belief that you'll unlock "instant tree watering" sometime today. It would be better if filling up was noticeably faster or upgrades were available specifically for that. The main actions in the game are 1) spraying targets, 2) vacuuming trash, and 3) collecting water, and you will spend significantly more time collecting water than vacuuming trash, so a large portion of gameplay is just staring at your water gauge. -The watering robot is effective like... 40% of the time. I plunk it down next to a tree, and it aims at the very base of the tree, which is beneath the ground, so it just doesn't water the tree--but it keeps trying and will often ignore other items in range? There are so many trees that it cannot water. It starts by trying to spray whatever is at the farthest edge of its reach, and if it cannot water it, it keeps trying to water it forever. It does not take very much interference to block it, and other plants regularly block it, and it is difficult to find angles that will work for lots of the plants. It gets worse with upgrades, not better, because you increase the range on it, resulting in it finding more distractions that have more obstructions in the way. On a replay, it persists in trying to water the rabbits in the first level, driving them to hide beneath the map. To fix the sprayer, it needs to aim at plants some distance above the ground, start closest to itself and progress further away, and maybe be allowed some more grace to spray through other plants or objects (this last is least important--if it stops trying to spray at items behind a wall when it has targets right next to it). And the rabbits thing is kinda a silly oversight, it can be left for fun. -The vacuum bot is sort of unnecessary? I think the idea is to set it up with a sprayer bot and come back and collect them both, but with the sprayer bot being so clunky, placing the vacuum next to it was a low priority. Vacuuming isn't boring. I had the idea to make the vacuum bot collect water for me, and this was somewhat successful, and I switched to doing this instead of drawing water for myself at all. And then I was struggling to set the bot down where it would collect water but succeeded in sticking it down in the pond in the garden level, and couldn't get it back because I couldn't get close enough to it because those ponds do not allow wading. Since recalling the bot without standing right next to it is a max-level skill, and I had not unlocked that, I couldn't get it back until I finished the level and moved on. I think maybe both bots were designed with the intention that the player would use them primarily for dealing with huge piles of trash while the player watered plants instead. The visual appeal of the giant piles of trash shrinking and popping into piles of trash that can then be vacuumed is way more attractive than the visual of multiple identical plants swaying a few times and making three identical chimes as they progress, over and over. I like the design of the plants, I like watering the plants, I feel satisfaction when all plants are watered, but when I'm dividing up the work between me and the bots, I'm trying to make the bots do the work that feels most repetitive and requires less movement, because I have to move them. The sprayer does seem to clean up trash piles quickly, but if I let them clean trash, I'll still be wanting the sprayer to help me with all of these plants.
I like the game a Lot, especially afer I got it in the Sale! +cozy +nice graphics +good gameplay +circa 7hours of gameplay -you level up pretty slowly -you cannot complete the whole skilltree -if you finish the story you cannot go back to certtain levels (so if you want 100% achievements, you need to play it again from the beginning)
If you are interested in this game look at No Place Like Home instead. Only bought the game because it was on sale at less then 2 euro. I'm honestly not sure if its even worth that. I forgot to shut the game down for a bit and I'm still only at 10 hours and have already completed this game and left feeling like I wasted my time. Also, this game is alarmingly simular to No Place Like Home but definitely the temo alpha version. There is no story at all and nothing really interesting about it and its very short. That one has a lot more content with a real story and interactions with NPCs and overall a lot more depth.
I would recommend it, but it was still a bit janky. The water bots didn't really work well (most of the time they were just watering the ground that the plants.) The last stage I finished it, but it didn't activate the achievement and it also didn't sync my progress across the steam cloud. So if I wanted to check if I could get the achievement on PC, I'd have to play the whole game again. And it doesn't have to much replay value to be honest. So it's a good relax game, got kinda repetitive and boring at the end though.
There is one major flaw to this game for me because I am left handed. I want to be able to rebind keys so that I can use the arrow keys and I don't see a rebind option with this game. All games should have a rebind option, in my humble opinion. Other than that, the game is fun, colorful and relaxing.
Very satisfying game, could definitely spend more time playing this whenever.
I really liked this game! I've seen some people say that it's tedious and that the power ups don't feel like they power you up enough, and I do agree. However, it's a sweet message and a good game for when you want that brain-off-feel-good vibe. I got it on sale for like $2 and achieved 100% in about 8hrs
Very good game. Nice and relaxing. Plays well on the Steam Deck.
