Reviews
Thank you to the developement team for generously supplying me with a review key. --- This review will be in more detail than is probably wanted for potential customers because I want to actually try to help the developer understand why I didn't like it. I would also like to throw ideas on the table with regards to possible improvement. The mantra any puzzle game should adhere to is easy to learn, impossible to master. Incredibly, somehow Fourtex Jugo actually mangages to do the exact opposite. What we have here is a puzzle mechanic that is based on crafting/building higher-tier icons using more basic elements. There are several tiers of complexity and each has its own rule set. All that is good and fine, but the rules are 1) fairly arbitrary, and 2) don't actually respect other rules. For example, 8+8=9, yet 8+7=pi. And not the mathematical pi that everyone knows; in this universe, pi = 15. Why? No idea. There is also an ohm, but not the physics unit. To complicate things further, the spelling of each of these units is all over the place. How to fix this problem? Create your own symbols. Our brains will forever connect it with the real, universally accepted symbols. Plus, making your own symbols will further make this game 'your own'. I also said the rules are fairly arbitrary. What I mean is that they don't follow any kind of logic pattern that makes them easily remembered. You would do well to actually print out a chart of the rules, otherwise your brain is always working hard to remember these goofy rules. Here is an example of how wonky things get: 8+8=9; 8+7=red pi; red pi+red pi=white ohm; red pi+blue pi (not craftable)=black ohm; black ohm+white ohm = votex. Quick! How to make a red pi? To me there is nothing for my brain to grasp onto logically to remember these in any fun way. Like maybe if it was red+pi=red pi. Now that makes sense. You couple this with the fact that there are a metric ton of variables, and its just all very confusing. I'm a smart guy, so it's not that I can't wrap my brain around it - it's just complicated in a way that is not fun to untangle. Here is a brief list of variables: numbers, red pi, blue pi, black ohm, white ohm, vortex, devil hand, tile color, background color, tile shape. Woof. The design decisions for the UI aren't great either. The puzzle is not centered on the screen. There is unnecessary clutter all over. Just look at the screenshots on the store page. Why do I need all that other stuff? I don't. That top left logo and everything other than the puzzle at hand, and perhaps the score. Check out Hexcells for good UI design. Another thing - for being Early Access, the developers aren't all that active on the forums. Let me be clear - they are there, though. Really, at the time of writing this (11/2016), there is only one other active person on the forums other than myself. I've posted about a bug that the developer did address and acknowledge. I've also posted thoughts and, for the most part, have been ignored. Thats fine, but this is Early Access. I guess I just put it in my review. How does this title manage to be 'impossible to learn, yet easy to master'? Winning a level is absurdly simple. In fact, I've *almost* never lost. There are about ?four tiers to winning. See the store page for details on that. There is no satisfaction, really, when you clear a level because of this. Mind you - I've only 'beaten' a level by the most simple of winning conditions. For the majority of my playtime, we focused on trying to beat the 2000k score for the first level. We never were able to do it. I mean c'mon what does that tell you? The game has a math 'skin' to it, yet really has no math in it. No logic either, other than the obscure ruleset. As I have voiced on the forums to a silent crowd, I think the game would do much better if it were skinned differently. I mean idk, off the top of my head here, how about a fantasy setting where knight+knight=blue army; blue army+white army=civilization. Boom. Solved. It makes *logical* sense, and ends up being more fun at the same time. What I did like about the game was that it had good controller support, and good music. The music has little variaty, though. I think there could be a gem here, but it needs an overhaul. I congratulate the developers on the Steam release, which is a major accomplishment in itself. Again, thank you for the free key. To my Steam friends - I'd wait on this one. It's not ready.
A Puzzle Game
https://youtu.be/I_gIASsAR-s + Unique gameplay which mainly involves trying to combine tiles in the center grid to reach a target score. It's a bit too complicated to explain through this review, but it's an interesting game to say the least. + Lots of levels / content + Challenging This game is in Early Access, these are subject to change - A bit overly complex to learn, and somewhat hard to comprehend. Mixing numbers to create Pie to create Noms to create Voids which have Claws that will eat tiles and reduce your score. huh? - The game is not as enjoyable as I would have hoped, and doesn't really have a "fun factor" that would encourage one to keep playing.
This is a nice, addictive game with a lot more depth than most matching types of games. It took me a few times playing it to really understand what is happening, but once I understood what I was doing, I found the puzzles to be quite challenging, yet achievable. Unlike most games like this, if you just randomly start matching items, while you can complete a level, you won't be able to hit the target score. It takes more strategy to understand where to start and where to focus to hit the high scores. So if you enjoy a matching type game, but want one with more strategy and planning, you should try Fourtex Jugo. As I said, it took me a few plays to understand what I was really trying to do. Here's what I found out. The goal of the game is to get to a target score for a puzzle. To do this, you'll need to score as many points as you can. You get the most points by making Voids. However, once you make one Void, basically the final stage of the game starts - so you want to hold off making Voids until you are just about ready to finish. You end a game by using all 16 squares of the 4x4 grid. Voids are made by combining oms of different colors. Oms are created by combining pis. Pis are made by combining two numbers that add to 15 or combining two 14's. Numbers are created by combining like numbers (so combining two 5's will make a 6.) So basically you combine numbers, building them up to 14's, or combine two that add to 15. Make as many different types of pis as you can. There's a pattern to how to make different pis. Combine the pis make oms. Try and get a good collection of black and white oms ready to combine (ideally you get a 4x4 grid with 8 black and 8 white oms), while not closing out the 4x4 grid. Then combine the oms and quickly close out the grid. It is more complicated that other games like this, but that's what I liked about it. You need to study how the board is repopulated from the sides and determine how to attack the board to get the pi then om then void states. The variety of puzzles they include require different strategies, so you're not just playing the same strategy over and over. Again, if you're looking for a casual game with some depth to it, give Fourtex Jugo a try. It's a casual game for the strategist in you.
Thanks for giving me chance to play this. This game actually fun game because it has new idea about puzzle game. This is my POV as normal buyer. (+) - Colorfull and the music is nice; - Control is easy; - Gameplay makes you silent for thinking. (-) - Annother type of 2048; - Tutorial not really clear; - Need a moment to be understand the game. So far it's a good game, but with this price, I'm not recommend. Better play this on Android/IOS.
Fourtex Jugo is a colourful puzzle game where you have to score points by matching numbers and symbols together to win. Although an interesting concept the tutorial is very vague and the game can be quite confusing. However it seems the developers have tried to rectify this by adding tutorial's in the 'extra' section of the game. I did not notice this until much later though after clicking around a little bit as it seems sort of hidden in the game. There is also a campaign mode which consists of hundreds of different levels each with a goal of a different score. A daily mode has also been included which also states that the levels are randomised. Although i can clearly see that the developers have made positive improvements to this game I do not feel that this game is worth the £6.99 price tag that this game has been priced at. At the time of writing this review it is on sale for £1.79 which i think is a very affordable price. I would definitely suggest waiting on a sale for this one. I wouldn't say that this is the best game in the world or the worst game either. It definitely depends on your preference of game. Below is a youtube video of me being confused after viewing the initial 'starter' tutorial, perhaps if i had noticed the tutorial in the 'extra' section beforehand my experience would have been a little more exciting. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C45eJd03wEA Pros: - Colourful Puzzle Game, appealing to the eye - Easy controls - Developers have made positive improvements - Hundreds of levels (replayability) Cons: - Not clear on how to find the tutorial & the initial one that it starts you off with is very vague. - Not worth £6.99
Right up front, the developers approached me to try this game out. I can't recommend it. It's trying to be a game likes Threes or 2048 but it replaces some of the concepts with out-of-the-box thinking and replaces some of the numbers with shapes. "So, it's just trying to do something new? What's wrong with that?" Everything actually. At least in this case. The concepts make no sense. The shapes are confusing. When I pick up a puzzler, I want to know HOW to play it. This one keeps having to remind me because it uses rules that make no sense. So I can't just enjoy playing the game. I spend most of it trying to memorize the rules so I CAN enjoy it, which makes it much less enjoyable. A puzzle game should ALWAYS be easy to learn yet hard to master. This one is hard to learn and not worth trying to master.
Huh?
