Reviews
This is a classic styled platformer with an indie feel. XD
Loved the atmosphere and the subtle storytelling. Simple mechanics, but it pulled me in emotionally. If you enjoy quiet, reflective games like Journey, give this a go. Totally worth it.
The game is amazing! Forget Sonic, Forget Mario, This is the platformer to beat! -Lots of Levels with something different in all of them. -Long Levels (which I like as they keep you in a flow state). -Great story. -Runs really well on my 3rd gen i3. -Challenging bosses and small puzzles. -Very addictive gameplay! -Fast paced. -Tight Controls. -Beautiful Soundtrack -Lots of hidden and small little details here and there. Although the game seemed difficult at first but after level 25, you get used to the controls and the pace picks up, the levels near the end are also just incredible.
A well crafted game. The controls feel super tight, the art style is charming, and the level design keeps things fresh without being frustrating. If you're into classic platformers with a modern polish, definitely give this one a go.
Here's another fun little platformer for kids: @Sherrygamescorp's For Aerolite. The further in you get, more weapons, enemies, and platform mechanics unlock - but over 100 levels I found this a little slow (but that will also make it much friendlier for kids!). Could use a touch more polish (particularly with controls & progress). The soundtrack, voices and sound effects are amazing. One of the finest platformer games played! Good intuitive character development for Aspen. The Level design is quite intriguing as the player gets hooked to completion. Uniquely designed Boss fights and very irritable if not able to defeat them! Music and SFX needs a bit of balancing. I would say amazing game concept work and level design for an Indie developed game, it has that player hooking mechanics. Only thing I feel needs improvement is mechanics versatility.
I got this game for free. If it was priced free, would've been whatever. But this game (at the time of this review) costs $15. It's not worth your money in the state it is right now. It has way too many bugs. It also has very questionable and conflicting game design. For example, two particle types are green - one can kill, one are just for effect. Both have no visually apparent difference. Game entities do not interact intuitively. Some kill, some pass through. It's visually unclear what can hit/kill and affect what. There's also elements designed with the sole purpose to ♥♥♥♥ with you. For example, there are checkpoints that are death traps on respawn. These are more fitting for "rage games", but this one is not advertised as one. Levels drag for way too long. There's nothing interesting happening in the first 15 levels or so. There's long periods of stagnant gameplay (ex. 20 levels), after which there'd be a level with sudden difficulty increase that would take you 20+ attempts to complete (level 52, level 83). I got stuck at level 83 with probably 100+ attempts for ~2 hours spread in 2-3 days. The story would've been something I care about, had I not forgotten about it in the process. There are indeed interesting and fun bits and puzzles in the game (the lasers make for great puzzles for example, and level 18). But they are not enough to compensate for the overwhelming amount of design issues and bugs. The moment I finally enjoy something fun and interesting I get 10 bugs thrown me. I will amend my review should the game address these issues some time in the future. However, it absolutely cannot be understated that this is supposed to be a full release at full price that should be coming at a much better standard when it comes to bugs.
