Flat Worlds is a VR space transport game set in our very own Solar System. Setup transport networks of people and natural resources, guiding the path of human colonization around the Solar System's planets and moons. What will we find when there is no more room to grow?

6600k oced 4.3 16 gb ram Gtx 1080 Og vive Tpcast Gameplay video : https://youtu.be/YeC9OooYjUM A fun game colonising planets in our solar system, managing resources and population. Planets are laid out on flat terrain modules which you can adjust to suit height. Graphics are simple but good enough for this type of game and gameplay is addictive and even though I've only spent a short time playing so far. I know it's going to be one of those restarting a number of times games like these always are. Ran fine on my setup no problems encountered.
Development seems to have stopped, and the game is extremely incomplete which is a shame as this had a ton of potential.
Reviewed on an Oculus Rift. A very fun and unique little game. Seeing your cities and planets grow as little cubes and ships buzz around is truly satisfying. Balancing the production and trade of resources is a demanding and potentially enraging task, but rewards the player for properly thinking. Presently, however, it is lacking content, (you can see everything the game has to offer in 1-2 hours, only 4 of the planets are presently available to colonize) and had I not received a key, I would think it's overpriced in its current state and would not purchase until it goes on sale or goes down in price. A more reasonable price in my opinion (especially to promote the game) would be in the area of $5-$10, at least while it's in early access. Nonetheless though there is a fair amount of content if you try to perfect the balances and create truly successful planets. Everything runs smoothly as it should with a GTX 1070 and i7700k. The UI is clean and intuitive. My only gripe is that you have to hold the trigger down to "click" things. You can't just do a quick trigger press, you have to hold it down for half a second or so which I personally find annoying. If this could be fixed or made an option I would greatly appreciate it. (EDIT: this has been changed, thank you!) Overall, a great little game which shows promise. Buy it now to support the developer (which I strongly encourage, seems like a great guy that will see this game through to the end), otherwise get it on a sale.
2 Minute Video Review → https://youtu.be/ZTrdH7vTpUA Flat Worlds is a planetary conquest game in a unique style that I haven’t seen before. What really sets it apart is that the worlds you explore are relatively small squares of land, it’s not like you’re exploring vast amounts of planetary terrain, in fact I would argue that there’s no exploration at all because you can see all the land in front of you at a glance. So it’s not an exploration game, but it is a strategy game heavily based in colonization, and setting up resource transportation networks. I personally found the learning curve steep, there’s a lot to get your head around. There are multiple resource types, including people, water, energy, metal, and crystals. And for each resource type you’ll need unique vehicles to arrange transporting them between worlds. To make all of that happen you’ll need special ports and docks to facilitate all of that. It’s a well made, and unique, strategy game. If you’re looking for Command and Conquer, you won’t find that here. But if you would enjoy a somewhat zen, and complex, colonization game that’s all about networks and facilitating, then you’ll love this game.
Only an hour in so far but having a great time. Like most games of this genre, there is a lot of test and fail, and boy have I failed. Expand too fast or not fast enough cities start to run out of supplies, 1 city missing essentials gives you a red mark, 3 red marks and you fail. I presume this gets worse the more cities you have! When you are waiting for cash for your next expansion, you can watch the ships go by, or check to make sure there aren't any choke points or cities that need some attention. I look forward to building bustling cities on various planets
Experienced on the Oculus Rift with Touch Controllers
Please note: I received this game free as part of the Steam Curator Connect program. I am reviewing the game as though I had paid $11.99 USD (the current sale price). I will admit that I am not the best person to review this game because I don't normally enjoy management type games. And this game is a resource management game. There really isn't more to this game than juggling the resources in one planet and then adding another one into the mix. Specifically, you're in the transportation management game. You'll be transporting people, water, minerals, or power. You will find out that space ships break down a whole lot. Who made these ships? Constant breakdowns are a way of life. The good news is that nothing comes out of left field, you can see what's going right or wrong just by paying attention to the worlds. The more planets added to the mix, the more there is to keep an eye on. The good news is that once you get a hold of things, the game really does have a relaxation type atmosphere where you don't need to constantly attend to everything going on. However, if you don't have a nice balance, things can get very hectic. Usually, it also means that you will eventually run out of resources. It's very easy to lose a lot of money if you make mistakes. I made the mistake of transportating too many ships with people. I found that one was usually all anyone could handle in any planet. The rest was just being patient and not trying to do too much at once and realizing if you make a mistake it's better to sell off your mistake right away rather than trying to make it work. Keep an eye out for diminishing resources and do your best to even that out. Did I have fun? Yes, it's a nice time waster. I personally don't like this genre too much, but I had some fun. The best I can say about this game is that it's simple enough for someone like me to enjoy and is more catered for someone who enjoys casual management type games. If you're looking for more depth in your resource management type game, this is the wrong game. Rate 6/10.
A fun VR experience that could use a few QOL improvements but overall is really fun. Flat Worlds puts you in the Milky Way Galaxy and has you colonizing planets and organizing transports to supply each colony. It's a balancing act that gets hard to maintenance each time a colony levels up. The game ran fine in VR and besides a few quick turns while riding on a transport ship I never had any motion sickness, that's just an experience and not required btw. The QOL improvements I would suggest are as follows. A way to speed up game play, it can get really tedious waiting for that next planet to level. The other big one would be better information about transportation and using multiple ports to supply each city. A lovely, almost meditative experience. The user experience is awesome for a game in early access, things click where you expect them to and you don't feel like you're fighting with the controls to get things done. Once you've done the things you need to, the UI is basically transparent, so you can sit back and just watch your little space empire putt away. It's weirdly lovely standing in the middle of a small swarm of ships, watching them drift past you as they go about their work like little fish or worker bees. Of course, beneath all these quiet, pleasant experiences is the waiting maw of a management sim. Your colonies need water, metal and power, so you will need to balance your little fleet to keep all the planets stocked. If they run dry because all your little couriers have broken down, well, game over. I'm yet to get past 4 worls, but like a good strategy game its left me contemplating what to tweak and try to beat my previous best. Its early access, so its not perfect, but shows a great deal of potential and I look forward to seeing where it goes. An enjoyable experience.
Cute little game! The gameplay so far seems to consist of setting up a trade network that links your colonies together, satisfying the needs of your populace. I made it an hour in before my water production just couldn't keep up with my population and my colonies didn't really like that... I was surprised to see that such a relatively graphically simple game was quite taxing on my hardware, though. On an i7-4790k and RX 580 8gb driving my Oculus Rift, I was only maintaining ~75fps without asynchronous spacewarp on. I see that the other reviews report very good performance but they also have somewhat beefier hardware than what I'm running. All in all, something definitely worth keeping an eye on if you're interested in a very light sim or tycoon game for VR. It's a real-time trade diorama that's quite relaxing to play if a bit slow-paced. In the future when maybe a tech tree, or tower-defense mechanics, or further civic development is added, Flat Worlds could become a great reason to put on the headset evening after evening.
It's a nice relaxing game in which you can colonize planets and manage the resources between them. The low-poly asthetic is easy on the eyes and the control-scheme is one of the best i have found in a VR game so far. It allows quick changes and the menus show you a lot of helpful info without being too complicated. The tutorial is helpful and explains the basics while still leaving stuff for you to find out on yourself. I recommend it for people who want a relaxing space civilaztion sim. Early Access: It doesn't have much content so far, but the devs are adding more. I had no technical problems, which is awesome for an Early Access game.
