There is a game breaking bug in the final boss fight. Its been a known issue for over 2 years now. I wish I would have known this in the first place because I wouldn't have wasted my time playing through the game just for that. if it weren't for that, it would have been a slightly above mediocre game. It does some needless padding to the gameplay especially towards the end but I would probably just pass this game up even on sale. It doesn't look like the dev is going to fix this issue.
TL;DR: It's alright. If you like indie platformers you'll probably like this. If not, you won't find too much here. This game is weird for me. I don't hate it by any means; as a matter of fact I kept coming back after a few weeks of absence to play it. But, the game just feels amateurish. The gameplay feels kinda loose, many visuals aren't super polished (specifically with puzzles) and although I kept coming back to play it eventually, there's a reason why I didn't beat it all at once. The mechanics are interesting, someone else has probably explained them better than I have so I won't get into the specifics, but they just feel a little unexplored. Each shape beats another shape and has a few basic features about them, which are nice, but I felt there was little play between using the different shapes in tandem with each other. Aside from the obvious use this shape to get higher then switch to the heavy shape to fall and hit a button there wasn't much combinational aspects which may have made the game more exciting to play. Credit where credit is due, the art is pretty. Honestly, that's what got me to play it in the first place. But the music is very, very generic and I don't remember a single song or tune from it. I don't hate this game at all, hell I barely dislike it, but if I walk away from a game just going 'meh', I have a hard time recommending it. These devs have a promising future, but I feel this game just didn't show their potential. Definitely going to see what else they've got.
Fun and charming little game. Can be rough in some ways but it's an enjoyable and short game. Most of my complaints are about it making you redo levels sometimes and the bosses can be a bit boring. Still worth a play I'd say.
It's terrible
Cute, charming and definitely made with lots of love by the (indie) developers. I loved the idea, reminded me of other beloved platformers/2d puzzlers (thomas was alone maybe?). The graphics are for the most part very professionally designed. Some textures/sprites look a bit out of place, but that did not bother me at all. The soundtrack is also pretty good, but nothing exceptional. The sole reason that forced me to quit the game before finishing it, was the complete lack of fluidity in movement. In short, the game allows you to dash, jump and do all sorts of cool stuff, but when trying to chain them together, the character always staggers for a split-second, transitioning from a form to another, making the whole movement feel clunky and unresponsive. This is somewhat mitigated later on the game that you acquire extra skills, but still I could not stand it. The bosses of the game, although very easy, are very imaginative and were enough to keep me going. The level design (in-between bosses) is pretty average, but sometimes throws an extra (optional) puzzle to the player that spices up the gameplay. I overall recommend the game. Its charm and unique features would not allow me to not recommend it. It is not for everyone though, and the kind of boring levels combined with unresponsive movement made me quit. I may come back at some point, just to see what other bosses the developers' imagination created!
Flat Kingdom is a 2D platformer. The objective of the game is to recover the jewels and stop the evil
Square King
from destroying your Flat Kingdom. Gameplay-wise, you must use a controller. The keyboard is just too difficult while you have to change shapes. On top of the jump button, you have 3 shapes to change into; Square, Triangle and Circle. They match the PlayStation controller. The function in a transitive loop, Square> Triangle >Circle>Square. The enemies appear in one of those 3 shapes and you beat them in the above order. Square. Slow, strong and hard to move Triangle. Fast, pointy and spinney Circle. Jumpy, floaty and glidey Conclusion, do try Flat Kingdom. The game is far too short for much value and you will get annoyed with the shape changing but it's a decent game.
for such a simple game they could at least make the graphics sharp instead of pixelated. its not very fun at all.
it's a kid's game with gimmick controls and unfulfilled ideas. not worth it.
