Great grandtactical operational modern wargame with a great WEGO system
Genuis game. Better with mods. Took me awhile to finally get into it cause so much tactics that are electronic focused than a standard WW2 game.
It's pretty great. The execution of the WeGo system in this is incredibly well done. The game itself has enough depth to keep you going for a while. I've seen others complain about the UI, but I don't know. It hasn't bothered me at all. You genuinely do need to go through the tutorial, as it's not intuitive right out of the gate. However, that has more to do with the volume of information and functions given to you than it does problems with design. With the amount of nuance offered, yeah, there is going to be a notably higher base skill floor than with something like a base-building RTS or a TBS like Panzer Corps. Once you get the base functions down, the menus and options pretty quickly become very intuitive. The amount of control you're given is amazing. It's also worth mentioning that if you find you like this game, then you absolutely need to try the two follow-up games, Southern Storm and Cold War. They add a whole bunch of additional functions that give you much more nuanced control. Really, the whole series is great. They're easily becoming one of my new favorites.
Nothing like the feeling when mines bottlenecks the enemy and they stack up - and your well timed barrage hits home for max damage. If you recall the Cold War and lived it, and like war games, a must buy for sure. Even better when it it on sale.
Rather i do play wargame, red dragon or some. Has the same gameplay enjoyment problems for me like warno
Fun and challenging. You will learn the hard way lessons like "tanks can get ambushed in cities" and "you are a sitting duck if you're not in cover." A unit can be very strong on paper but perform poorly if it has low morale or readiness, or run out of ammo at an inopportune time if kept in poor supply, so you must be keenly aware of the conditions of your troops.
This game would only be better if it was just NATO icons and lines turned in to WeGo strategy. I love it. I basically boils down to spending half an hour of planning only to spend the rest of scenario trying your best to stick to your plan because your man decided to shoot at the sky and get decimated by a platoon of T80's breaching your lines and oppening your support companies. Game only seams complicated I only skimed the manual and managed to beat School Teatcher campaign on Tactical Succes final score. I'm happy there is Suthern Storm to look for but PLEASE OTS MAKE MORE MODERN ONE!!!! (By modern I mean modern warfare, not graphics, I want My Nato icons on maps.) 10/10 would protect Fulda Gap.
This game is a lot more challenging than it looks. Steep learning curve, but it's fun to play and mildly addicting.
A nice hex and counter game, deep and immersive. More for older grognards like me, probably.
