Frog Detective 1: The Haunted Island

You are a frog hired haphazardly to investigate the happenings on a strange haunted island and unravel a mysterious mystery of unknown mysteries. You roam around the tropical scenery, talking to various more or less qualified scientists, and turning every rock in search for clues as to what is the nature of the strange ghost rumored to roam the lush tropical paradise. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3750894947 First and foremost, this is a very short game, I finished it 100% in under 1 hour, and besides the main storyline there is not much else to do, unless you want to fuzz about on a small tropical map. The gameplay is mostly wandering about, magnifying glass in hand, interacting with characters and objects that lets you progress in the story. The game is more or less on rails and that is fine, the various items are easily spotted and the characters are the right amount of quirky. The Return of Obra Dinn this is not, and most of the clues are pretty straightforward which keeps the exploration brisk and painless. The graphics looks rudimentary and almost bordering on satirical, but I kind of like it. The feel of solid craftsmanship is just what I need in the age where most of the games are asset flips or low effort AI-renditions, and the pastelly wonderland gives the game a happy whimsical atmosphere that I really adore. I found the dialogue with the inhabitants of the island to be charming, albeit I know that I have a rather dry and odd sense of humor so maybe this is more about taste. This might not be the most polished game around, but it does have both character and heart! I love the fact that we are introduced to the main character as the second best detective on the force, only to be whisked away on an insane island adventure. It is a bite sized adventure on rails and should be treated as such, and I do enjoy myself some froggy detective stories!

I see this game getting some flak for it's simplicity but I'm glad games like this exist - something silly and light-hearted is what I needed after some heavy time investments in other games and if you take it as just that (silly and light-hearted), you can enjoy an hour of some stress-free entertaining characters :)) The dialogue and animations got some chuckles out of me and the trilogy will be a fun silly escapade to embark on!

Incredible play. Dialogue is funny, art style in endearing, music is great, a nice quick playthrough. Great game/story to click through on a rainy afternoon!

I have to write a negative review just to balance the overwhelmingly positive score it has This game isn't bad It's just not a game, there are no game elements in it. You walk, talk to characters, "solve puzzles" at a kindergarten level And that's it... So why do people rave about this game? The humor! And the humor is... okay. Every now and then I giggled, the rest of the time, not even that. The game looks funny, there are occasionally funny insects on the floor and funny animations. The writing is nice. But don't make the mistake of thinking that anything here is the pinnacle of comedy. Unlike Undertale where I laughed out loud Or The Stanley Parable where the humor is very sophisticated Here everything feels underwhelming. So what do we have here? There is a really short "game" (without gameplay elements) With quite a bit of charm A few funny jokes A few less funny jokes Cute graphics And that's it This game would work better as a YouTube video for kids And I don't mean to offend! On the contrary, maybe the creator should consider it... If I could write this as a review that is neither negative nor positive, I would do it But because I have to choose, I have to balance the pool of positive reviews here...

Juego cortísimo con humor absurdo. Si te gustan los sketches de Los Simpson con el director Skinner y el superintendente Chalmers, te encantará.
