"And thus did our journey end." -Clive Rosfield
The Good: - The Story - Eikon Fights - Very few select Hunts The Bad: - Outrageously terrible story pacing (It’s actually the reason I’m knocking the score down to its lowest numbers especially when paired with everything else) - Unacceptably clunky movement (Chocobo riding especially) - Lack of movement speed. Clive is slow as balls and it pisses me off. - Equipment feel absurdly pointless. So much effort went into an RPG equipment that doesn’t fit the mold of an action like this. Review Notes of things that pissed me off: - Can’t pick up items while riding chocobos - Invisible walls at random points that cut off travel pathing, making exploration take way longer than needed - Horrid Levels of Sidequest Slop. The game tries to be this all-encompassing product with a lot of cinematic storytelling, numerous quests, and even a nuanced combo system. But with spongy enemies, characters taking forever to engage and end dialogue, travel being almost unbearably slow, it has been a slog to finish. The pacing of this game is legitimately terrible. Some reviews referred to the pacing as “Start Stop” and I couldn’t agree more. You start an engaging part of the story, it ends, and then it feels like momentum stops altogether as you do a whole bunch of nothing. I legit can’t stress enough that the pacing paired with bad overworld movement, plus the insane number of sidequests in an action game, actually had me going legit insane later on in the playthrough as I’m just yelling for crap to hurry up. After playing this game entirely, I think the combat is just extremely mid. It does nothing of nuance nor does it accomplish anything unique beyond being more or less a DMC inspired action game. And action you’ve played it, you get to indulge in the free style combo elements it has to offer… this realistically has no impact for the average player that legitimately will not go out of their way to learn the nuances of the combo system, doing these unique juggles and never-ending combos. So, it’s a moot point in gaining any additional points for the review altogether. I played predominantly around staggering with steady damage and found the best burst damage setup I could. In reference to DMC once again, FFXVI just feels like combo slop fest that while takes inspiration from DMC, really didn’t emulate the gameplay aspects that makes DMC solid outside of just combo potential. Dealing with absurd levels of mobs having more HP than needed, every enemy having the exact same gameplay loop, offering nothing new at all, and you have very little to look forward to every time you boot it up. Well technically there’s one thing; The major story boss fights. They were always consistently fun and felt as though the game was heavily balanced around them. They never once pissed me off, and even up to the end, it felt like if the game cut back a lot of the content to quickly to them, it would have felt so much better. Despite the good that can be said with the game, there are a lot of painfully mid things about the game, and awful amount of bad. I gave the game a better score when I left it unfinished. And now that I finished it, doing everything I could do before NG+, I went from giving a gracious 6/10 to a freaking 3/10. It actually got worse the more I played. The experience was just grating. It just kept throwing the same bullcrap at me 24/7, expecting me to like it. I will stand by my statement that is by far one of my worst final fantasy experiences. For the sake of just experiencing a fairly average story with good worldbuilding, I had to endure way too much to reach the end. The bad was so horrific I didn’t even bother going into the good that was the story and how it scaled geopolitical into existential level problems in a way that made the story have this broader sense of worldbuilding and development as everything unfolded. Despite calling it average, average in this case still isn’t bad. It had a lot of story beats that on paper many would say makes for a great story. But what keeps it average actually is its delivery. This coincides once again with the poor pacing. And if you’re Sebbywebs, the use of language altogether.
by the flames?
Nunca havia jogado Final Fantasy antes.
game is sick
Good character developmen. just an all round good game for any ff fans.
